City-building game(s)

  1. I have been thinking about how functional mixed-use buildings could be implemented in the game and maybe it could be done through different sub-buildings with different categories. The idea isn't new of course (I don't remember when I first saw it). However if done for growables, it would only be published in the category of the main building on the Workshop. I was wondering if it would be possible to create something similar to BP's More Asset Tags mod but that would allow to set multiple main categories when publishing to the workshop? I doubt it would work (kinda opens the door to all sorts of problems if someone wants to cause trouble) but asking is free...
  2. Award Category Ideas - Much like the Oscars, the Trixies just wouldn't be complete without The Awards themselves! Here is a thread where you can suggest what default categories you'd like to see... The Trixie Awards traditionally feature a selection of categories which can be used to submit nominations for. These have ranged from content on the STEX, creativity in the CJs, to wide-ranging contributions in the forums. With the previous 12 editions of the Trixies, the categories have been pre-defined by the admins, and the only method of suggesting different awards was by submitting a custom nomination. So starting for the 2015-2016 Trixies, prior to the start of nominations, we're opening up the suggestions to the community! Last time the Trixies were held, the categories were simplified in an attempt to make the process less overwhelming. When in actual fact, all this did was the precise opposite. There were fewer nominations per category, and less variations of each type of award. For instance with custom content and CJs, there were only more general themes, which encompassed the more niche categories. This time, by allowing you all to choose what you'd be interested in submitting nominations for, hopefully it can provide a much broader selection to choose from. This should also help with searching for possible candidates, as it will give a clearer perspective. In other words, we're asking you to nominate awards, to be used as the awards! Post Your Ideas Below You may add multiple posts with multiple ideas, or single posts with single ideas -- it's completely your choice... Just remember we're looking for the title here, for example: Best Llama Impression OR Most Likely to outrun a Llama OR Llama Dedication Award And feel free to discuss and hit the button for ideas you, hmm, well... Like. They will then be populated into the below index lists for final consideration by the Llama Crew. Similar with how it worked in 2014, there will be at least 3 types of general awards: (There could be more yet, we'll see...) Custom Content Buildings, lots, mods, maps, and their many variations. City Journals Types, styles, genres, themes, countries, presentation, etc. Community Forum awards, site contributions, members, staff, special mentions & moments, etc. At this stage, ideas don't need to be specific for a particular game or year (2015 or 2016), as most awards can be doubled up for that purpose. Also don't worry about duplicating someone's idea. That just proves it's a good one! Whether big or small, we look forward to hearing your ideas!

  4. Hey Everyone, I was testing out the color variations today on an item and finally decided to play around and figure out how to change an assets category to another tab. First you must subscribe to ModTools to do this which you can get here... http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=409520576&searchtext=mod+tools Step 1.) Open the asset you wish to change and hit Ctrl + E to open up mod tools. Then find "Tool Controller" drop that down and select "Tool Controller" Again. Then find "PrefabInfo m_editPrefabInfo" and drop that down. Step 2.) Find "ItemClass m_class" Drop that down and change the following 3 categories to what you would like the item to appear under. In This case I changed the items to Ship Categories. ItemClass+Service m_service = PublicTransport ItemClass+SubService m_subService = PublicTransportShip System.String name = Ship Facility Step 3.) Then scroll down and find the following categories and change them to their respective classes. "System.String m_UIEditorCategory" will say SameAsGame by default change this so that both say the same thing which is the category you want such as "PublicTransportShip". System.String m_UICategory = PublicTransportShip System.String m_UIEditorCategory = SameAsGame Also you can change "System.Int32 mUiPriority = " to a number so that your assets will show up in a certain way in the tab. So for example if you wanted your item to all be right next to each other you could set a number for example like 5423 and then next time you create an Item you can just add another number to it to keep them together. If you want people in the future from using the same numbers as you and interrupting your connected flow of icons then set it to a number a large number that no one will really know. This ofcourse will make your items appear last in the category. So you can also you "-numbers" and go backwards to be first in the category. I haven't tested this all out, but I'm told this is what you can do. To find out what the correct class names are for categories and such, you can drop down Sunny Collections on the left hand side. Then pick a category such as Public Transport and then open up the PrefabInfo and and select buildings to see what their categories are. And here you have it! Hope this helps some people out!
  5. Navigating the LEX (Navigation Category Definitions) The STEX (ST) is pretty easy to understand as there are very few sections to search: 3ds Models, Buildings (BAT), Lots, Maps, Props, Textures, Mods & Tools. The PLEX (simpeg site) is quite different but even though the acronyms are not obvious, clicking them always opens a description page to explain. The LEX, however, has the most easy to browse categories and while they are mostly easy to understand, there are a few that still elude me (even after searching for definitions on the sc4d site). There is amazing content found at all 3, as well as some other sites out there that I'm still finding out about. Does anyone know the definition of the category headers below marked in Red text? EDIT: Thanks to infamousjbe, Indiana Joe, z1, catty-cb for helping answer the questions. Clarified categories are now shown in Green instead of red above.
