Neighbour deal for garbage

Just got a reminder from the game today that Maxis highways are not considered to be connections when you want to make a neighbour deal for garbage.  Had to make a road connection to get the deal presented.

Anyone notice this before?  Is this a bug or just an omission?

The game advisors were blathering on about neighbour connections when the city was opened with a highway connection already in place.  * sigh *

I've always thought that if one has an exit ramp connected to a road/street/avenue that is connected to the landfill in the receiving city using a highway is okay. I could be wrong I guess, but that's what I thought!!!

If I had to relate it to real life situations, I don't think the refuse trucks could actually achieve and/or maintain highway speeds. Plus, some locations have a weight limit for certain city networks, which could have influence on the omission of using that type of network for trash removal in-game

Can't say I remember ever seeing any of the garbage trucks using the local highways around here.

Interesting the the developers thought of that but not of so many other little hiccups.

I posted this already sometime ago. The game seems to only consider road and rail connections, highway doesn't count.

Hmm. Sounds like an odd bug. Even more odd if its on purpose. Surely the advisor should inform you highways can't take garbage trucks if that was the case?

Anyway I rarely employ highways in my cities anyway, I use avenues mostly.

I was referring to neighborhood connections in general and your observation that your advisers disregard highways when they tell you to make some. If you only have highway connections, they will talk as if your city was isolated.

The simulation is very simplistic. You can export garbage to neighbour city, even if the  road "connection" doesn't really connect to your (exporting) city! The only requirement is that a road connection exists, no matter if the connection is functional. Similarly, at the importing city, you can be importing grabage, even if the the neighbour connection does not connect to your landfill (or other garbage processing facilities) directly or indirectly, it actually works even if the connecting road (or avenue - they are considered "road" networks) is a dead end! Of course the garbage processing facilities must be connected to the city to be functional, but this is another issue. So the developers didn't really think about whether gabage should or should not go by rail or highway, it's just sloppy implementation.

According to the SC4 Prima Guide, highways should allow for garbage disposal (page 313).  I guess the SC4 developers forgot to consult the Prima Guide :uhm: .

Because the game doesn't move garbage by rail, the rail connections to garbage lots is indeed eye candy.  I use it when convenient for completeness of my rail network.
