I often find myself just wanting to go home and be alone with my cat. I spend too much time out of the house. My electricity bill is super low because of that though. Actually, the only thing that spikes the bill is running the AC in the summer. It's full blast at the moment and still hasn't made a dent in the 86 degrees that I found it was in here when I got home. Blech. Too hot!

That's not good news :/

This is also the reason I never buy really expensive headphones (unless it is for using them at home). All my previous headphones broke (in the physical meaning of the word) in some way or another, so 30 Euro is the maximum I spend on headphones.

I suppose my current headphones are technically already broken in that one of the ear pieces is being held on by duct tape - but as far as sound coming out of them they work just fine. Until that breaks, they don't need replacing.

I bought my current headphones some 7 months ago. Last one had a broken cable, the one before that simply broke in two pieces... Earbuds would work better, there's less material that can possibly break, but I really really (but really!) dislike earbuds...

Yeah, I find earbuds uncomfortable as well. In an ideal world I would have no headphones, but I live in an apartment building and have neighbors, and besides common courtesy I as a matter of privacy do not want them to know what I am listening to. Especially if it's something embarrassing like the Backstreet Boys.

I will grant you, a $50 pair of headphones is noticeably superior in sound to a $15 pair of earbuds.

 

But when I look at $200 pairs of headphones, all I can think is two things: "no way those are four times as good as the $50 pair", and "no way I'm spending that much money on something that I'm likely going to need to replace in a year or less".

I have to get cheap everything because nothing valuable lasts in a house with two toddlers.  Our cheap, flat-screen TV has red marker all over it.  My headphones reside in my chocolates box on top of the fridge, but it's only a matter of time...
