You know what 'sport' I hate?  Dodgeball.  I hate dodgeball so freaking much, and the kids at school LOVE it.  I hate to play with them, but I put a smile on my face and let them bean me with the stupid hard balls and then stand in the "gaiya" position bored out of my mind wondering why we couldn't be playing tag or soccer instead.

I have tickets for three baseball games in August - one at Wrigley Field, one at what I insist on calling Comiskey Park (White Sox), and one at Miller Park in Milwaukee.

 

Dunno if I will be seeing any other baseball games this year but since these are three stadiums I have not yet been to, those are the important ones.

Ah, it's sports again in the 10.000 post-thread, I see. I would love to make an intelligent remark, but since I know very little about sport and really suck at it, I fear that's not possible (Belgium did win a medal, though, at the Athletics World Championships in Poland )

Sumo has started, it's the Haru Basho in Osaka!  Kotooshu, the Bulgarian wrestler, is my favorite, but he needs 10 wins to get back to ozeki.  Kisenosato has started off well with two wins in two days, but he was brutalized last tourney after winning 13 in the winter and pushing to become yokozuna.  Maybe he'll make another push, it'd be nice to have a Japanese grand champion (the current ones are Mongolian) again.  Younger wrestlers I like, Masunoyama and Oosunaarashi are winners so far, too.  Oosunaarashi is from Egypt, and his sumo name literally means "Big Sand Storm."  Awesome.  He's good, too.  And Hakuho, the longest active yokozuna, always wins.  He's one of the very best of all time.

While being huge is certainly an advantage, the balance, strength, and speed necessary to excel at it is probably beyond what most fat, old senile people are capable of.  Think NFL lineman, and you can get an idea of what these guys are capable of.  The biggest sumo wrestler of all time, Konishiki (a Hawaiian), reached 633 lbs. when he was wrestling, but injuries and faster opponents prevented him from reaching yokozuna.  He was also the first non-Japanese native to reach ozeki, the second highest rank (that's what Wikipedia told me), but I think Hawaiian Akebono was a yokozuna.  HIs hands are massive.

NHK's international channels show it, I have no doubt.  I'm sure in big cities you'd be able to find NHK.  I think I saw it in Toronto and Chicago before, but I can't remember.  I do know it exists, though.  I think my parents' DirecTV gets it, too.

I don't have as much interest in the MLB as I used to, and I'm not into NBA, NFL or otherwise. Give me Australian Rules or Association Football (Bundesliga or A-league) and I'm unlikely to shut up about it.

I have played Yoshi, actually. In the Super Smash Bros. games he's very useful for some special tasks but he's a lousy character to fight matches with.

I like Yoshi in MarioKart, but I'm partial to Bowser.  He's not called Bowser in Japan, though.  He's Kuppa (we'd say Koopa), or King Kuppa.  The things I always called koopas are something different, and honestly, trying to learn their names in Japanese makes my head hurt.  There are nokonokos and wanwans and pukupukus and kuribos and choropuus and heihos- you know what?  I'm getting a headache.
