My brain must be off right now, I read "chocolate chips" and pictured pieces of chocolate shaped like wood chips. :P

Which begs the question, why are those mini dollops of chocolate called "chocolate chips" when their shape isn't at all chiplike?

I Love Chocolate! just saying

Simply there is nothing like chocolate from Europe all a bit different as the milk cows are a bit different and the grasses are a bit different. Some specialty ones stand out but a common one that is really good is Lindt   Personal favorite Lindt Dark Chocolate with Hazelnuts in bar form.

I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

One of the many great mysteries of chocolate products...

The best theory I can propose is the term "chip" is a generic term for pieces that are smaller than bite-size. Much like how you have the term for "car" when it can be a sedan, or wagon, or hatchback, or crossover, etc.

The only chip like pieces I have seen for chocolate comes in the Dreyer's ice cream containers, which is strange considering how they don't use the chips that are advertised as such.

The closest I've seen is indeed in ice cream. Local favorite Nastos would produce both a Choc Chip Ice Cream and a Chocolate Choc Chip Ice Cream, the first made with vanilla and the latter well duh chocolate, the "chips" were flat rhombus shaped bits that more resemble a wood chip or a chip off a chocolate bar, they've recently switched to a more common "drip" shape.

I don't understand the appeal of ice cream with solid bits in it. Totally clashes with the texture of the smooth creamy part. I prefer my ice cream to be homogeneously mixed.

I did see both Incubus and the Deftones at the Rolling Rock Town Fair something like 15 years ago.  The last show I went to was probably Incubus in Hershey, PA when Gruvis Malt (this awesome, now-defunct jazz-rock group from MA, kind of like a less acid-y version of Soul Coughing) opened for them.  I think that the lead singer from Gruvis Malt is still active in music scenes somewhere.

I've seen them 9 times now (Deftones) and have discovered many a good band through their openers. I saw Crosses and Team Sleep too. Those Chino side projects are varied. All over the place musically.

My go to ice cream is "moose tracks" which has tiny peanut butter cups and fudge swirls, so yeah... bits'll do for me. Though I don't really like hard chocolate chips (the ones actually shaped like chips) in ice cream or cherries and stuff like that.

This summer, after one thing led to another I ended up with my little cousin's chocolate ice cream with gummy bears. Not something I normally would have ordered on my own but it had an interesting texture mix and flavor mashup as the fruit flavor of the gummy bear mixed with the chocolate flavor. Similar taste to say any fruit chocolate mix, orange and chocolate or strawberry and chocolate. A bit of a refreshing new take on plain chocolate ice cream for me, and I've even ordered it since.

Any fans of chocolate covered strawberries or other fruits?

Good news everybody! (read in Farnsworth voice). I'm moving out into the country! About 1.5 hours from the city, got a new job lined up and all. Found some really cool furniture for the new place today :P
