City Overrun With Criminals

I have just started a new city and I have 26000 people.  I am struggling to keep up with crime even though I have a high school.  I have 1675 criminals per day and my police are making 126 arrests per day.  Where am I supposed to put all these freaking criminals?  I have 3 police stations with maxed out jail cells and they're still having to release criminals.

You're not the only one, but I have a city with 200k, 3 Police Precincts (fully upgraded in terms of jails/heli's/patrol cars) and I still have 3,920 criminals a day with 400 arrests a day. Not to mention I have built every single education building.

wow. thats pretty bad...first you wont see changes unless you stick to cheetah mode after upgrading or building solutions to your problem. sounds like you may have an unemployment problem (click the pop. number, goto details and observe how many sims are unemployed).

i bet you have casinos... ...a quick & cheap alternative to a fully upgraded police station is a maxis manor if you have the DLC. MaxisMan can arrest multiple criminals with one payment, with a single MaxisMan patrol that can last for more than one in-game hour. This demands micromanaging the catch a criminal button though...it's simply a fix and not a compete substitute for more police stations/patrol cars.

Once crime is out of control you have to arrest criminals multiple times each to get them back to citizens.  Criminals have like 7 levels and you have to arrest a level 7 criminal 8 times to get them back to zero.  If they succeed in a crime they go up a level until they max out at murderer.

So, do the math.  If you have 200 criminals at level 7 you must arrest them (200*8) times before your city will have no criminals.  That's not counting new criminals spawned due to poor conditions or those that get away with a crime and go up a level.

It takes a long time to clear them all out.  I spent an entire Saturday with one of my cities after I screwed up and let crime go to long.

The invention of beer and the wheel were the foundation of modern civilization & together were the catalyst that split humanity into two distinct subgroups: liberals & conservatives. Some men spent their days tracking & killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. These men were called "conservatives". Other men who were weaker & less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's & doing the sewing, fetching & hair dressing. They were called "progressives".

As with most things in this game, preventing the problem is much easier than trying to fight it once it's established. Somewhat realistic though; it took decades to clean up New York City, and sending 10000 police officers to Detroit tomorrow would not eliminate the crime instantly.

I'm giving up.  Population just hit 30000 and I've got 4300 criminals per day.  Time to abandon this city.

WOW! Something must be wrong, do you actually see 4300 criminals in the crime overlay map? I don't mean just that number shown in the panel, but do the red bars on the map look like they sum up to 4300?

My highest number of criminals is 220, but thats because I had a high crime city, it was failing (for other reasons) so I bulldozed the entire city and started over from scratch. Now I have a population of 100,000, and although the panel reports 220 criminals, there are only 2 thugs actually out on the streets, and maybe 10-15 in jail. The others are being reported in the panel, but are really just phantom criminals left over from the great bulldozing purge.

It's great to see that SockoJr53's city wasn't abandoned. I hate playing in regions that are half filled with abandoned cities. They should have a city obliterate button like SC4

If you have excess money just ramp up education and the police, it will come down.  But IMO it is a waste of time.  I was mining money and in a city of less then 2000 they went nuts.  I consider this a tuning issue.  It appears to be linked to time rather than population.

edit that wa 2000 not 200

I'd rather leave the city, build a beautiful utopia next to the slum, and cackle as all the criminals gaze in awe. Evil_Laugh_emoticon.gif
