I have a city of about 170K and a whopping 33 of them are attending the university.  How can I get more people to attend?

turn off all other education buildings (except libraries), students don't have an age and will attend any school in your city

make sure your people can get to the university easily, they won't go if they can't get to it, I normally place mine in the center of my city on an avenue with streetcar and bus stop next to it

also it takes time for people to start going, it may take days for them to find it and you should probably build all 3 dorms if you haven't already, each one is suppose to get 500 students to attend your university

The dorms are only used to meet requirements for research.  They dont attract your sims to the University.  If I read correctly in a previous post.

Yes, dorms just increases the attendees by a fixed number to let researches go faster and to lvl up university.

isn't...that what I said before?...they add 500 students per dorm? and this whole topic is about how to get more students to the university

from a site I found http://simcity2013wiki.com/wiki/Dormitory it says it adds additional students to your population that attend your university

I was under the impression that the dorms purpose was to pull in Sims from other connected cities and educate them.  I didn't think Sims IN the city used the dorms.  This game has an ongoing trend of describing the cause/effect of the buildings that end up not being accurate at all (see nuclear thread for another example).

I thought the OP was asking how to get his own students to attend.  I thought he had a bunch of uneducated sims that weren't being educated.  Also, the number reflects the time of day, so if it says 33 students check the time.  If it's early in the morning then you just have to wait until more students arrive.

Im not so sure, but i think university attendance is only for the residents with high income and high education level. If you open the "education" tab, only the high income residencial buildings, that are dark green (high education level) will be able to produce residents that can go to university.

Nowhere, since the game is not very good in giving information, im just guessing. I have a 160k city with high education levels (buildings are all dark green). People still go to high school and school, but when i put a college, it started with small amount of people (around 100), now is more than 2k. I have another city with 190k, but small amount of education level. I realized that every time more dark green buildings appears, more college students i have. Maybe not only high income buildings, but i think that only high education buildings (dark green) can produce college students. But, as i say before, is all guessing.

It all depends on the location and wealth of your population (just like real life, the poor don't go to university). I made the mistake in my first city due to space constraints of putting my University in Clearwater right near the water. Even though there were lots of bus stops and I was using high-density roads the maximum I could get was 550 students at my university. I made the hard choice of demolishing the building and putting it into the centre of my city and after a little while, the University started levelling up and I could finally get new buildings to fund research projects.

Youre all barking up the wrong tree.

All of your sims regardless of income level will eventually get pulled through the University.

It just takes a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry Lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng bit O time for it to happen.

Yes, i agree that it takes a long time. But, as i said before, i think it takes time because people need go to school or high scholl, and it takes time to wait for the education levels to rise (white buildings to dark green buildings) and only after all that, the city will have enough people to go college. I think that "killhipsters" (i guess he doesnt like hipsters) is right, it all comes from wealth and location... and a lot of time.

That's how real life goes on but that's not how Simcity works.

With only uneducated R$ in the town(only town in region) i managed to go to the last but one level with no other education structures.

Just add the 3 dorms for the 1500 students per day increasee and wait for the other R$ to cast out agents to the university.

    P.s.

The whole thing, a part from dorm people, is modified by traffic: the more the traffic the less the students.

the class rooms add capacity for the students at the university, dorms do not add any capacity to the university, if you noticed you have 800 class room space and that number does not increase until you upgrade it and add a different class room

Ah Ok... I thought essentially dorms just gave regional students a place to stay....Think I worded my post wrong...

yes, this is how I max out the university, then after it's maxed out, I reopen the high school or build a new one if I bulldozed it before to get more people educated in my city
