I thought it would be cool to show off our custom cities or transportation networks, so I have created this thread to do just that.

Just a map I've been working on:

Here is the city I have been working on, Santo Poco.

Ok, whose idea was it to put a bunch of tanks full of explosive liquified natural gas right next to the expressway?

Great, I've got some to post.

my first interchange (not map editor, but North City)

possibly frightening bus terminus (West City)

high-up public housing estate

basketweave; the plan was to fill the majority of the map with urban sprawl, though I don't know if it'll happen now

4-level stack (a test map that wasn't continued)

compact "spaghetti junction"

That is a nice spaghetti pile.  I plan to build an interchange like that in Santo Poco eventually.

Ok here is my interchange.  I know its not all that great but it does show how easy it is to build them with CIM2.

A closer view.

Screenshot_2013-04-06_14-17-58.png

All of these buildings grew in place, none of them are plops.  I think it made a pretty decent little skyline on its own.

Santo Poco's Malmart, every town has one.  A skyscrapper forest is about to grow here.

Screenshot_2013-04-06_16-15-07.png

The Malmart is hidden behind all of those towers.  I didn't really expect office towers there, but that is part of the charm of CIM2, you just don't know how the city is going to develop.

Screenshot_2013-04-06_19-01-34.png

This looks like a promising area for future sprawl.  Some lady keeps requesting that I add more busses because she doesn't have a car.  I think you moved to the wrong city lady.

More development along the expressway.

A sunrise picture that my daughter took.  I noticed that the buildings don't leave a reflection on the water.

Here is another picture of the Malmart to show how much the area has changed.

The city looks empty in most of my pics, but there are areas with traffic.

I've been working on custom maps more than actually playing the game lately.  This map is a work in progress:

Andasreth green belt

The other direction

And later on...

Coastal parkway

No shortage of parkland here...that's the idea.  There's also another "central park" in the middle of a large plateau, which isn't quite finished being developed yet.  I've taken to placing many of the major buildings manually, and letting the auto-generator fill in the rest (or in the reverse order of that).

Edit:  Here are a few shots of the latest area of Andasreth that I developed (the left area between the coastal parkway and the water, in the first shot):

Looking out towards the ocean

The newest district up close

Uh oh, what's going on here?  Traffic is backing up in the right lane.  In CIM2 you have be more careful about how you build freeway exits.  In SC4 you might just get a red pixel indicating heavy traffic.  In CIM2 you will get a line of cars a km long.

Screenshot_2013-04-07_10-55-17.png

So, I added some flyovers to relieve the congestion.  Malmart should be happy, now the expressway empties directly in front of their store.

I love this game.

More of Andasreth.  I've been working on it during all of my free time lately, and I've been doing almost nothing but manually placing buildings all day today and yesterday to achieve a more realistic cityscape.

View from over the water

The same area from a different angle

Two "green belts" converge and end

A more up-to-date shot from the same viewpoint as an earlier image I posted

The central green belt at night

An overview of the entire region:  what's been done so far in the past few days, and what's left to do

How come there are usually no busses/ cars/ anything on the streets in the screenshots you guys took?

Well, for mine, it's because they're either taken in the map editor, or right after the game was started for the first time on that map.  In this, it takes a few minutes for traffic to accumulate in a city (after starting a new game), but it can get pretty extreme after a while.  Currently, I have the value for traffic on my map set to the maximum, for realism.

Actually, I'm not sure if that value (private motoring) just takes away from your company's ridership, or if it adds to the city's overall traffic level.  I don't see how it could be a percent value, since it goes up to (I think) 200.  Does anyone know for sure about this?

If you mean the little icons representing the transports, stops, and depots, I turn them all off to take screen shots. When you get your network solid, non-transport traffic goes down a lot. Course, then the city grows and the line-ups get bigger and delays take longer and you have to start modifying your routes.

Great screenshots everyone!

I purchased CiM2 to support the devs, and installed it just to see if it would run on my ancient laptop. To my surprise, it's actually performing better and much more stable than the first Cities in Motion! Below is a shot of my transit network for the tutorial city, mainly just me learning the ropes. I look forward to tackling the bigger cities next! :)

I've progressed to East City and am still getting the hang of things in sandbox mode/unlimited funds. I decided to begin with the metro network and then start filling in the other modes district by district. Here's what I've built so far:

Good god, this game is a timesink!

Just for comparison, one of my old CiM1 shots. The UI didn't necessarily get better.

Hi... you guys. here's Anderson and here is my coming soon map.

I hope you like it.

I bet you can see that huge villa at the top of "Smoking Devil mouth" dormant volcano, can you? There...hidden behind those trees. It is said that it was build by the daredevil man himself, Mr. Deville. Yes... Mr. Devil. I mean, Deville.

Mr Deville from the top of the "Smoking Devil mouth" dormant vulcano, and he would make sure everybody knew about his saying, that he could see every single soul and how they were spending their money and how they were caring for his tools of transportations.

He could see those villages... or the one at the feet of the mountain.

Or those souls living by the large village, supposedly, far from his preying eyes. Not a Soul... Ermm... no citizen was away from his reach... not with his transportation system. Not even his most secret and dared enterprise.

Over there... Can you see it? Hidden by trees? It is the smoke being spat out from the Furnace. The old man's own Furnace. Right by his backyard. Its said that Mr Deville worked at his own forge back those days.

Can you see the College and Hospital Campus and the Opera House at the other side of the lake?

You can see by frontal plane the Xeyed Platoo and a little by your left, the Deville Platoo, between the Twin Lake city. Far at horizon the main Double City and far to your right, the Three Towers of Mr. Deville most secret project.

Just an interchange from a map that I am working on. (The map is going to be released publicly but it is nowhere near getting finished)

interchange.png

EDIT: Definitely not going to be released to the public now, I have way too many things to finish on it.
