Can you build TV factories and import the necessary supplies?

Hi --

I had a theory and I'm not sure if anyone tried it yet, but is it possible to import the necessary supplies to produce TVs and computers and still make a profit? Building the other factories takes up so much space.

Is this feasible? Has anyone tried it?

Since prices are currently fixed and you get the same price for buying and selling, the best strategy is to only manufacture one thing in your city. The best money currently is computers.

You can import processors and alloys and build computers. You could also import plastic/alloys and build processors and computers. Both work just fine and make huge money.

I've set up electronics factory in one of radiated chernobyl (all thanks to lizard!) city, running 8 consumer electronics and 5 processor factories. It is completely profitable, but I always have to check trade depot is working without a glitch.

Sweet! Thanks guys! I will definitely try this out.

I had one city where I was literally mining the ore and processing alloy, plastics, chips, and TV's. It was just so complicated and took up way too much space. I didn't want to ruin an entire plot of land in my city with this experiment.

    Thanks again!

You may want to keep that city around. Once the global market is enabled, that may be the best way to make money consistently.

This is a good point.  I read a bunch of your posts yesterday, that made me think twice about demolishing my very profitable electronic city the other night because of what may happen with the global market.   I thought I'd try something else there, but I should have just started a new mini region.  When and if the market comes online, it will be mighty dull to have to remake every test city I've done to see how the new variables affect them.

So, again, this is great advice that I am taking.

in theory yes but you will have to start with processor factor in order to unlock the tv/cpu factory....

I say, milk the market for as much as you can get right now while prices are fixed. When the market comes online and the TV crash comes, you can use the excess money to retool your city to produce other stuff.

Honestly, this is probably the better advice. My city is currently set up to import the basics and make everything, but that's only cause it already has lots of money raised through pure computers.

Getting your raw materials output going and producing tv's / computers takes up far to much room...

Id guess if you were to manufacture everything yourself, specialisation buildings must cover 3/4 of your city.....  allowing proper trade between cities would be beneficial, then we could easily set up dirty inustry specialised cities to supply our hi tech silicon valley type cities without depending on the currently broken global market system.

It is very profitable. Slightly more so if you're manufacturing your own processors.

I was being lazy and looking online to try to find out what was truly more profitable, TVs or computers. But, I wasn't finding a lot of clear answers. The further debate on manufactured vs imported processors intrigued me even more.

So, I sat and ran the numbers myself in full. Then, I put a guide together based on my findings. I hope it helps:
