Troll Alert in Simcity Regions

I am not sure how many players have been affected by this nor do I know how this was achieved.

 

I joined a region tonight, hoping to find a region full of simcity enthusiasts.

One of the regions had one empty spot, obviously abandoned, with no budget, no building, whatsoever.

First I thought there must have been a mistake or technical issue, thought taking out loans will do.

And realized the deficit in budgets (around 500 every hour) were actually caused by the total of 75000 bonds.

 

Has anyone been affected by similar trolling in Simcity?

If the debt was 75k that's a fairly small amount. Ask your neighbors to send you cash.

Nah it sounds like a troll. OP said there was no buildings or anything. So what someone must have did was claim a city, then take out several bonds, build stuff, then demolish.

 

If it wasn't a troll, then whoever did that must be the worst simcity player alive.

As noted in the original post (and as a good troll would do), the city had no money and no buildings. So outside of getting money sent in from another city, there's nothing that can be done.

 

This is easy to achieve. Just take out all the bonds you can, spend all your money, and the destroy everything you built. You have no money and no way of gaining money (outside of a gift from another city), and in fact, due to the bonds, you're losing money, so you have to overcome that as well.

The city can be saved, but the neighboring 3 other cities need to donate money till you can dig yourself out of the hole, but the chances of that on a public server are tiny. I planned to make my first public city very wealthy, then to make it nothing but paved streets...sadly...i havent been able to do much since day 1. Day 2 and 3 have been a total wash with 0 hours played.... due to the obvious issues. And yes i know i can change servers...but I dont want to unless it a new US east one.

I don't dare to touch my neighbour's city. But is it true that all players in the same map have more than necessary privilege to modify other's city like shutting down police station to crank the crime rate skyhigh?

This thread illustrates everything about Online gaming I hate, there are way too many idiots online for me to seriously play MP anymore. It's rife in every MP game. Private with friends is the ONLY way to really enjoy online IMO.

They actually counted on it. I read early articles where Ocean was saying how cool it would be for a neighbor to wreak havoc on other players. This is by design because they thought it would be fun.

I knew things like this could and would happen.  I wouldn't want anyone not even some so called "pro" to touch anything I have done, and then to have someone affect my cities in a negative way without even touching my city?  No flipping way folks not me.  I pass on this one.

Its happened to me a couple of times when I've joined random cities. Amazed that Maxis didnt see this as a possible outcome from bonds and gifting. Really need an ability for a new player in a region to demolish and start agin on the abandoned patch or something or this is going to be rife.

Perhaps if everybody starts a mass campaign to steal from each other, EA / Maxis will realise what a stupid idea the social network thing is.

like most things they probably didn't even playtest it and thought it would be. now that people are playing the game on a large scale they are scrambling.

My city makes 500k-1m a month. Cash is easy to come by, if somebody did a hit and run then getting the cash to start from a neighbor should be very easy.

And wipe out entire residental areas like that?

You can, but the changes don't save so you are only wasting your time and doing no damage.

Metagaming is a design feature, it is deliberately included in order to stimulate user behaviour in support of group dynamics. Think of it as a sort of "we gotta circle the wagons and tell ourselves what we want to hear so we can keep the baddies out" approach.

That's why, when I get to buying the game (which will not be until they fix a LOT of stuff), I won't bother with online at all. ;]
