Hi Simtropoli,

I have this weird issue in one of my cities: I am getting no office development and few residential skyscrapers, I have high demand for CO-$$$ high desirability and am getting the "Sims scout for office advantages" message. I currently have low residential demand but have over 26,000 sims and when I do have demand I get few larger buildings. Ps. I have NAM 31 and CAM (no lack of jobs (No job zot nonexistent)

Thanks for the help,

I think skyscrapers have a minimum population requirement, but you should get normal office growth. I'm no CAM expert, though, as I never tried that one.

did you mean, with old NAM you can get skycrapper easier?

or it is different city structure? :D

some pics about RCI demand, & Land Value will help. I usually plan build skycrappers Area like this :

C$$$ <Ave with conct> R$$$ <Ave with conct> empty <Ave with conct> R$$$<Ave with conct> C$$$

and with full civics support and High Land value (with good health and edcational level) also enough Job demand and area the reidentials will start to grow larger building. And with enough any C$$$ demands, i place C$$$ again in the middle and then all start to grow skycrappers.

With CAM installed your game level expands to level 15 from only 8 in normal vanilla game. This means you need more time to see those CO$$$ skycrapers. Normally you would get skycrapers in around stages 7 or 8, but with CAM installed, this stage is only a midway point. To reach higher level in CAM you also need to consider your regional population rather than just one single city's population.

In the meantime, don't forget to add plazas and/or landmarks to encourage those commercials.

If by any chance none of those help you solve the problem, then you probably encountered the demand bug issue. There is a fix available at sc4devotion somewhere in the CAM thread for this.

But this is funny :). And the comment isn't really malicious. I still hope it's possible to learn something and take it with humor at the same time.

I am being nice, Nonny.  But in the interest of not having it out with you publicly, I'll send you a PM.

BTW the minimum population requirement, is it counted in each city or regionally?

If it is on a city menu, it is for the city.  If the subject is a city for something like building stages, it is for the city.  Other than guesstimated neighbour demand projections, the game only knows the current city.

Perhaps this is archaic advice and has since been proven wrong, but the manual, interspersed with some of my experience, has shown cities to develop something like this:

i. 0-1,100 sims = typical small houses/small shops

ii. 1,100 sims = start to see smaller apartments and the like if medium density and water are provided

iii. 26,000-30,000 sims = start to see larger midrises

iv. 50,000-80,000 = more midrises/beginning of smaller towers

v.  80,000 = residential demand will almost without fail start to falter; build a stadium if you haven't already and that will likely get things moving again

vi. 120,000+ = skyscrapers start appearing fairly frequently
