xiziz, I never stop for anyone on the street either (unless they look non-threatening or like tourists in desperate need of help) but people shoving flyers at me, homeless people etc.. watch out! Cause I'm comin' through.18.gif I learned a good way to get those people to think twice about stopping me is by putting on my 'thousand yard stare' meaning, looking down the street and not at the people on the street. Urbanites know what I'm talking about.
Why are you sleeping in a Dodge Caravan?
quote>

Yeah, though im not only talking about people that try to stop you, all those people that are so intended on walking straight infront of you, well, i dont turn to avoid them running into me, i brace and walk ^^ if they get hurt its their fault of running into me.

Im not living in a caravan, though my cousin has one and i slept the night there. they use it like a little house. only thing was i slept alone there, my cousin was staing at his girlfrends house.
...

some more weird things,

I NEVER walk on manholes, since some rumor that they gave bad luck some 12 years ago(yeah, i was like 6 then ^^). and ive got enough bad luck as it is.

I dont stress, like 99% of all Stockholmians seem to do. I mean, whats the point of running to get a tube when the next one is due to leave in 2 minutes anyway ^^

Arghh!! All you people out there who haven't seen Star Wars...7.gif Go see it!! 49.gif

Anyway...zelgadis: LOL!! Of course you can't. And no, kangaroo is nasty...unless it was the cut that I had at the time. It was a sampler actually; kangaroo, emu and crocodile. Croc = the best. 9.gif

Here are some weird things about me...

  • I read newspapers at my age and often 2.
  • I am the only person in my entire school apart from the teachers to have a proper meal at lunchtime.
  • I hate PE.
  • I hate fizzy drinks.
  • I like to look smart at my age.
  • I eat loads of choclate but very little in the way of sweets.

17.gif
Reading the papers is normal...as is having a proper meal at lunchtimes and loving chocolates...19.gif

HOWEVER, hating P.E. is not as normal. 50% of my class fall in this including myself, but I think we don't HATE it, it's not our favourite subject. It's actually really fun at times. 9.gif Hating fizzy drinks is plain weird though...46.gif

I tried to act smart when I was young, then realised that not actively trying means that you look both cool AND smart. 9.gif Heheheh, I'm welcomed in both categories now.

More oddities!

I actually ascend staircases faster than when I descend them, since I usually take 3 or 4 treads at once. I can usually climb up our semi-J shaped staircase in under 6 steps, and in under 2 seconds. Going down, though, I usually take each step, and over 5 seconds.

As I walk around the house at night, I progressively switch lights on and off, as I go, and on the way back up, I do the same thing. After all, it is a long way to the kitchen, and I wouldn't want to trip down those stairs mentioned above...

I have discovered that breathing on these new digital thermostats (like the one we have)is an effective way to switch the A/C on without touching the controls, as my parents and siblings always insist.11.gif

I wear a bike helmet, but, my preferred footwear to use during biking is a pair of flip flops.3.gif

Whenever I order food at a restaurant, I always have extremely specific instructions on how it should be cooked. A few examples:

Scrambled Eggs: Lightly browned on both sides, fluffy in the middle, no liquid, lightly salted, and slightly crispy on both sides, and please make sure the egg is as symmetrical as possible.

Steaks/Meat/Burgers: Just in between medium, and medium well, slightly pink in the middle, heated to 165 degrees farenheit in the middle, no excessive carbon buildup on the surfaces, fairly juicy, but not excessively dripping, tender enough to cut with a fork, but, tough enough that it takes a bit of effort to chew, lightly salted, and please, trim the fat off of the edges.

I like to use condiments with food, and for some reason, my bro and sis hate them.

More to come, as soon as I think of them.

SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

If you tried that at the restaurant I go to for breakfast, they've give you a pile of lard and a glass of water and be over with it3.gif

Speaking of food, I never eat eggs, and usually order a hamburger for breakfast (If the restaurant serves it. Onr place we go to desn't serve them until 11, so I get sides of home potatoes, sausage or bacon. Sometimes a BLT)

I hate eggs, but I'am okay with mayonaise..

@Joesocwork: Allow me to offer these words of wisdom from Dave Barry. At the time when the federal government removed the speed limit cap, he wrote, The transportation commission has advised that the speed limit be raised in dull or boring areas. In Indiana, for example, the commission says, the speed limit should be 135 miles per hour.

@Duke87: So what's your wpm? Can't be high, I would imagine. My brother still gets on my case for salting potato chips. And I only ever did that once in my life.

@xiziz: So what do you put in your cereal? Orange juice? And yikes, 60kg??? My breakfast is bigger than you.

@Hanson784: If the crack between the platform and the subway train bothers you, just hope you're never on a ship when the call goes out to board the lifeboats. 34.gif

@Jasoncw: If only Oreos did taste like chocolate dirt. That would at least be something. Riding a bike should be something that you could do in the future, but rollerblades and skateboards require some kind of magical power that I currently do not possess.

@Eastwinn: Fast food can be kinda gross. There are some places I will not eat (Taco Bell). Enjoy the History Channel. I like Deep Sea Detectives. 44.gif

@am44: No Star Wars? You poor thing... And try some video games for kids. That's what I do when I get depressed about not finishing them.

@sendarrow: Only Coke Zero at room temp? I prefer root beer, nice and cold. And Mug root beer makes your brain feel all fizzy. 46.gif

@ephorex_77: Thought so. Riding a kangaroo is sure to make one's fanny butt quite sore. 6.gif

EDIT: Oh dear, I totally forgot that the above word has a totally different meaning in Britian as it was explained to me by my British friends a few years ago. 45.gif As you can see above, the North American translation.

@DuskTrooper: Clever thing about the A/C. And I'd be careful about how you order your food at restaurants. I know what goes on in the kitchens of some of those places. 14.gif

One more on me: I can't even look at baked beans or refried beans without becoming physically ill.

All except for choice places in Indianapolis when the Colts are playing!

Unlike the typical East Coast commute, I'd hazard a good guess that the drive through Ky, Indiana (Ohio/Michigan or Michigan/ Wisconsin?) made it easier to get to Canada.

@Duke87: Select a book or paper or something. Begin typing what you see there for one minute. When one minute is up, stop. Count one for every five characters (including spaces). Subtract one for every error. Ta da! You have your WPM. 44.gif For better results, do it for 5 minutes and divide your final total by 5. That will give you more accurate results.

@Joesocwork: My journey to Canada took me through only three states: Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan. I grew up on the I-75 corridor, which goes directly to Detroit. And the drive wasn't necessarily a picnic either. I-75 was a mess between Cincy and Dayton and between Toledo and Detroit. 7.gif

@debussyman: So, weirdo, why did you choose that as your username? 42.gif

@EAGCE: Some red wine occasionally could be nice and healthy for you. I think the wierdness of not having tried cigarettes often depends on where you live. In Kentucky, that would be quite extraordinary. In the tobacco farm regions especially, parents often encourage their children to smoke (generally, around age 10) because you can't work in the tobacco fields if you don't. Touching tobacco leaves without having a nicotine tolerance makes one quite dizzy. All of my friends who grew up on tobacco farms are smokers and explained this to me.

Now to me, that's normal, but as for the rest of you, I'm sure I'm going to see some 6.gif6.gif6.gif6.gif in the responses to come. 18.gif

xiziz: So filmjolk is a substance of some sort... Well, I guess the rest will have to be up to my imagination. And I'm a weighty 75kg and shortish 173cm. I could starve myself and my weight wouldn't change. That said, we need a chubby smiley for me. 19.gif

(All wisecracks & playfulness aside)  As you implied, the weird thing would be to grow up in tobacco country and not use tobacco products.

What I hope doesn't become weird, in any or whatever setting where ever, is for our young people to not give in to peer pressure to do things that could harm themselves.

zelgadis, Boarding trains does not bother me anymore. I'm talking about having that fear when I was 5.18.gif But yes, if I were back in that stage I don't know what I would do if that happened.
Also, when I was little, I was afraid of getting sucked under escalators while getting on or off of them. Thank god those silly fears disappear with age and experience.

EAGCE, as Joesocwork said, be proud of that fact. My family is very proud of me for not drinking and smoking. The damaging teenage/college age societal notion combined with peer presure, makes those things seem cool. I don't really think scorched lungs and liver disease are very cool though.2.gif

    I have more...

    • I sit in front of any flickering screen all day, perferabley a computer screen
    • I can't stand MTV and VH1
    • If you put a manufacturing company at work on TV, I'll tune in
    • Above is my favorite thing to watch on TV on shows like Unwrapped and Modern Marvels
    • I like to watch infomercials for cooking and cleaning products, never make - up or weight loss
    • I don't like the letter E as much as people think I do, it is just that all my nicknames and my actual name starts with an E, Eastwinn, Earwig, Ean. Its not like I think it looks cool, I just think it sounds cool
    • Computer games are my favorite kind of games, mainly because there are so many buttons you can use in a game that games like SC, TS, ZT, RCT are possible

Thats all I could think of now but I know there is more.

Yeah, its a substance 2.gif and be sure to try it out if you ever visit Sweden ^^ Myself, im standing at 185 184cm, and i find myself looking up on people all the time, that said, its prettey common over here... guess the Vikings were tall too.
Im happy enough with the 43.gif Smiley, it suits me quite well ^^

Over here Kids start Smoking somewere between 10-14(those who smoke), a few start later, but that is the age most smokers become smokers here. Same goes for Alcohol and reprodusing, unfortunatley.
Quite interessting though that the parents do encourage their kids to smoke, and that one gets dizze picking the leaves. Myself i cant smoke, i throw up every time i try, so ive given it up, despite I do hate the smell and taste of it.

I got some more Weird things...

I use 5 Alarmclocks to wake up on time in the morning, and i regularly oversleep(while the alarmclocks are buzzing).

My Sterio is allways on, and music from my computer(which also allways is on) plays all day, and all night.

Im a Nightperson, i more or less cannot go to sleep until after 0400, unless i fallasleep before 2000, sometimes i do but that is vary rare. Not only that i cannot sleep, im also at peak efficency in the small hours.

Ive sleept away one entire year of school(Not combined, i slept away one year). I was awake all night, came to school, fell asleep and was awoken by my classmates to move between the classrooms, just to fall asleep again. By the time i got home again, id had my 6-8 hours of sleep(2 of them on the commutetrips mind you) and could be awake untill it was time to go to school again the next day. And beleve it or not, i did pass most classes that year ^^

I Live in a small unisulated guesthouse, with a sauna and a fridge, my PC and a large bed. Infact, since the house is uninsulated, it gets really cold during the winter half of the year(remember, im from Sweden?), when the temerature drops below -15c(which it dose frequently) my room is below freezing! Ive actually slipped on ice on my floor... several times.

    Cheers

@louisville327: Odd that you renounced god and denim in the same sentence. 18.gif So, how do you pronounce your city anyway? Lewisville? Looeyveele? Lua-vul? Other? (1.gif Only Kentuckians understand this bit. 1.gif)
    quote>

The correct pronunciation is Loo-ah-vul, three syllables and no i or e sounds at all.

And by the way, Joesocwork, Louisville is not the capital of Kentucky, it's actually an independent city-state. We claim no connection to the backwater that is Kentucky---and definitely no connection to the cesspool of Indiana.

    No offense, of course.

People fr southern Indiana use the Lua-vul pronunciation;  those who are gifted find ways to pronounce it with two syl'bles

Indiana University and Purdue University have a similar rivalry; Indiana has a party-going reputation and calls Purdue with it's agricultural department the udder Indiana school,  despite its highly degreed engineers.  A lot of foreign students that come to Bloomington don't really know what to make of all the limestone quarries in the surrounding area.

None taken.  My relatives in Bowling Green, KY make fun of Tennessee; people fr Michigan make fun of Indiana; in MD/DC/VA the target is West Virginia; in Texas, it's Okies fr Oklahoma; in Colorado it's them flat Kansans or them strict Utahans!  People fr Oregon make fun of the Californicators and now with Ah -nold...

@Hanson784: I had the same fear of escalators when I was a kid. I also was more afraid of getting my haircut than going to the dentist. I worried that the hairstylist would cut my ear off. 18.gif

@Eastwinn: I used to like MTV, until they stopped playing music videos and started showing stupid reality shows and news. And Modern Marvels rocks. 44.gif

@xiziz: At 173cm, I find myself often looking up at even Japanese people. 18.gif Interesting that you seem to have made a very strong effort to start smoking. As for me, the house I grew up in was like a Cheech and Chong movie, so I actually suffered withdrawl symptoms when I went off to college even though I had never even touched a cigarette before. Smoking came quite naturally when I was in college. Good that we all finally quit though.

And I'm sure your family must appreciate all the alarm clocks that you need to wake up. 31.gif

@hym: I've known people who claim to be able to function on 4 hours of sleep, but I've often found that it isn't actually the case. They also often spend far too much time drinking coffee.

@Comprimise: Wow, you swim? I never would have guessed. 18.gif Now be sure to be good to that nice inflatable whale of yours. 19.gif

(See post your picture here for those of you who don't get that.)

@louisville327: Well, there are other parts of Kentucky that aren't backwaters. I'm from Covington. But where my family comes from, Clay County, that's a backwater alright. 29.gif

@Joesocwork: Well, since you're not trying to offend N_O_Body, I'll give it a shot. Seems these weirdo Canadians can't make a proper, legible street sign to save their lives. 17.gif *ducks*

31.gif

Oh, and i made a typo earlier, im only 184cm... not 185 as mentioned before(il change that).
Its not that ive ever wanted to smoke... but in the last 2 years, ive had several freinds that have tried to get me to smoke(so they would ahve someone to stand out with when its -25c and a blizzard). They given that up now, well, mostley. I can occationaly be fooled(usualy only when im very drunk) to take one. One is okay, its when i get larger quanteties of tobacco in myself that i feel rotten. Though ive only smoked some 3-4 ciggarets the since new year.

The alarm clocks arent really a problem for the rest of the family, since i live in the guesthouse, that is separated from the main house by some 10-15 meters. and the main house is very well insulated(unlike the guesthouse). My neighbours however(who live some 20 meters behide the guesthouse) have complained about getting headaches from my Load music i sleep to. But there summerguests(they dont live here on the winter) so i dont really care bout them. And despite, Nocturnal Rites and Amon Amarch can be really nice to sleep to on high volume ^^
since my neighbours only live out here during the summer half of the year, their house is uninsulated too, the music goes right through my alls into their bedroom.

    -------------------------

Haha, and i also talk to myself, though it seems to be quite a common feat.

Personaly i can survive a day on 2 hours of sleep, and im a lot more active during the morning.
With 4 hours it takes me a bit longer to wake up but il keep on going for as long as i need to.
On a full 8 hour sleep im ready to be awake for some 48-72 hours... or as my record stands: ~120 Hours... But something was seriusley wrong with me then, no matter how hard i tryed i could go to sleep. And no, i wasnt on drugs, neather on sugar or Caffine...

    Cheers

Oh and how do you pronounce the largest city in MD and also the capitol city
(the second one I often wonder how similar it might be how Hoosier pronounce their capitol & largest city)31.gif

Not only do we eat crab cakes, we catch our own crabs! 3.gif Crabbing may seem like a weird hobby to folks outside the Chesapeake region, but it's fun and perfectly normal here in MD. We have about 20 traps and we use chicken legs instead of chicken necks for bait, so maybe that does make us a little weird. We get bigger crabs that way though. 16.gif Crabbing is a great way to kill time when the perch fishing is slow. We make crab cakes, crab soup, and best of all, crab ravioli. 25.gif

Of course, the largest city in MD is Balmer.  21.gif Haven't heard any funny pronounciations for the MD capital myself, even from people that live there. 30.gif Let me know how you've heard it said.

Hey, I'm a Marylander. At least, this is my current place of residence. I consider myself intermittently a Philadelphian and a cosmopolite pilgrim. And I'm only 16 years old, too! 3.gif

I think I had crab once (go figure...when I lived in Philadelphia) and utterly detested it. Of course, I moved from Philly when I was 9 so possibly my tastes have changed.

It depends who you're talking to and how carefully you're talking. It can range from Balltihmorr to Baldamer to Ballamer to Ballmer (as in the CEO of Microsoft!). Residents are called Baltimorons.

Annapolis - Again, it can range from An-Apple-Iss to Anapulis to Naplis.

Of course I've eaten crabcakes!  I make a great crab dip for tailgating parties too.  I thought everyone used Old Bay seasoning until I ran across some shrimp in Colorado and found out that no one knew what it was.

They say that people who grow up in Maryland don't remember cracking open their first crab since it happens at such a young age.   I have no memory or knowledge of how I learned but I do remember teaching my parents, who were born and raised in Pennsylvania.  and, being Pennsylvanians, they taught me to say Bal-ti-more, which obviously isn't correct.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis
