This link mow appears to be dead. Its from page two of this thread, second post, and i'm sure it was one that linked to a site that had 6 pages full of stuff, some downloads, some merely preview pics of what is out there. Has the site moved? Or closed?

Awesome! I've been to downtown Kobe and have some nice pictures of that tower. Most cities in Japan feel the need to have some sort of observation tower... although most are not as attractive as Tokyo's or Kobe's. There are actually a lot of buildings in Kobe that would be worth batting.

One of the largest subterannean malls I have ever been in runs all under downtown, and links several towers together with the wharf. There is also a US submarine drydock that you can look directly into if you take a harbor cruise, not to mention the world's longest suspension bridge, Akashi Kaikyo.

Why Duke87 is currently royally pissed:

All the zip files here:
are corrupted. And why? Because of the uploader's stupidity. The buildings are great, and I'd love to be able to download them, but the files are all unrecognizeable. Why? Well, let's take a look at one of the names: skytower2222.000.zip. YOU CAN'T HAVE PERIODS IN THE FILE NAME!!!!! GGRAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!! HOW STUPID CAN YOU GET!!!!!!!!!!

@Duke87
You have a major attitude problem. Why didn't you just ask how to do it instead of calling people stupid. Quite simple really, just remove .zip from each file and run skytower2222.bat, which will then build SkyTower2222.cab and you open it with winzip or winrar to get the  skytower2222.dat. You could also have typed 2222 in STEX search!
Eddie
Remember to ask next time and btw I don't speak Japanese, just use an online translation to get info.

Well, that was just an example. There are other BATs on that page that aren't on the STEX.
Also, what do you mean by remove the .zip? Do you mean extract? Because I can't do that. It doesn't work.  I am unable to do anything with the resulting files. If I click on it, it says it's corrupted. If I right click and go to Extract it tells me there are no files to extract. And it should be common knowledge that you can't put periods or slashes in file names.

Bottom line: I can't do anything with the files from that page and frankly don't see how anyone can.
And considering my love of huge buildings I am understandible frustrated. I get like that. I probably do have an attitude problem... I have been known to smash things in frustration...

And I only call people stupid when they earn it. No version of windows has ever allowed periods in file names. I don't see how this person magically thinks it's okay to put them there, making the files completely unreadable and unusable.

One more thing: The translater EF linked to on page two gives me an error when I try to translate that page. probably since the characters aren't showing up right. I must not have that particular Japanese pack installed (Japanese has three alphabets.)

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

By remove .zip, I mean remove it so you have a file which is named skytower2222.000, skytower2222.001, skytower2222.002, skytower2222.003, skytower2222.004 and skytower2222.bat . The reason for the double extension, ie .000.zip etc is that some some servers will only accept certain file extensions for upload. The way round it is to put a dummy .zip on the end. Some of the other files have a .cab.zip, .gca.zip or .gca extension. Normal archivers like winzip or winrar will open .cab files. For .gca, do a google search for ZIPZAG to extract. GCA is a Japanese archive system.
Eddie.

UH, bud, sorry to say but all 32 bit file systems support periods... so FAT 32, HFS+ or NTFS... no problem. Technically it's Windows... so even if you have FAT 16, as long as it's Win 95 or NT 3.5+ you are good. I routinely use periods in file names for dates, etc.

What OS are you using? If your OS supports long file names, it supports periods. I don't think that is the problem with the files you are trying to access. I think that they aren't zips (see entry above).

If you are having trouble reading Japanese text and you know that you have installed Japanese text support, make sure that you right click on the page and select encoding --> Japanese (Auto-Select). The default Japanese Unicode fonts all include hiragana, katakana, and kanji, as well as english, so if you have support, there should be no problem displaying any Japanese text, and most Taiwanese and traditional Chinese text.

As per to Jutlander79's post, this is what comes up on the site

As Alta Vista Babel fish translates it to

Secret storage warehouse of the BAT/LOT work for SimCity4
It is abrupt, but this base came to the point of being closed maneuvers modification (circumstances) depending upon.
While being short, being able to receive the word of giving an advise and encouraging from many ones you appreciate.
Thank you. 2004.08.15
- Shim navy and merchant ship authorized personnel all -

That means that the site is down, and will be for some time, Ok

Thanks Jutlander79, as for that link, it only says that the site is closed. There are quite a few seaport lots on previous pages (try between pages 30-35) of this thread.

I just released the lot Japanese Breakwaters on the STEX - it's a rather useful BAT. I have the entire naval collection from that guy - I call him NACM for reasons that I detail in the STEX description.

I'd email it to you, but it's much too large. If/when I actually hear from Mr. NACM, I'll ask him if I can upload any more of his BATs.

That would be great, because those lots makes an perfect habour for my city, im specially in love with the passengerboat terminal (the yellow one in the left upper corner) 36.gif....and I think that many others simtropolitians are going to be very happy if they could download those habour lots in the STEX. For now I have to wait 15.gif but It dosent matters at all because I had dowloaded about 100 Japanese lots 371 stex lots/bats so this will take a lot og time to catorigize in my HD.10.gif46.gif

Ps. U can tell NACM that his habour/boat works is awsome and great. keep up with the great work.
Ps2. Keep this thread alive because I think there a lot of treasures that has not yet been found like korean and chinese bats/lots.9.gif

Thanks to you both for the quick reply!

Best regards Jutlander79

I just found this thread and I must say...I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!

I just have one question though...I downloaded about 25 BATs from this thread over the last two days...and some from the websites the thread points too...but, I want to ask if they show up in English or Japanese...meaning the descriptions/queries...if they show in Japanese, is there any way to change that?  maybe one of the programs from the Modding section?

I think these will add alot in my game play, especially with my CJ but I want to make sure they show so that I can read them...

@aldara6166.

Hi, The text parts of the menu, queries etc will normally be blank in-game (digits will show). The files are easily edited in DatGen or iLive Reader. DatGen is probably your best choice as there have been instances of the game crashing after editing with Reader.
Open the Lot file and look for Japanese characters in-
Exemplar Files: Exemplar Name, Item Description, Item Name.
If the User Visible Name Key and\or the Item Description Key refer to an LTEXT, you will need to edit them also.
Repeat for *.desc files if necessary.
Keep the original Zip files and if you make a mistake, just delete the ones you edited and try again.
Hope that helps, just ask if you need more assistance.
Eddie.

Great.  I will download DatGen.  I want to edit some of the stuff I've downloaded.  I can't stand scrolling down through a menu and having 15 Open Grass Area in a row.  So, I'm gonna clean up everything I have.

Thanks for the help.  Any other questions and I'll ask.

:EDIT:

I've downloaded and installed it.  Now, I can't figure out how to modify the text in the queries and descriptions.  Maybe I'm just stupid, or maybe cause I only got 3 hours of sleep last night.  Who knows...anyone able to help me out.  It can be through email or PM to save space here if necessary.

This is a Japanese team's project to replace all SC4 in-game buildings, R, C & I with new ones. That particular one has not been released yet.
At present, approximately 110 R, 30Cs, 21Ir have been released but I personally have not mentioned most of them in this thread due mainly to the language difficulties. Armandeus is involved with RL issues at the moment but I'll get his views on it when he returns.

I look forward to it, there sounds like they'll be a quite a few new BATs to look forward to then.

I've just spent a few minutes looking through that site, it's amazing.

@ZeramZeram: I am using Windows XP, with Service pack 2. The problem is that it won't recognize Skytower2222.000.zip as a proper zip file, because a period denotes a file extension. It keeps wanting to think it's a .000 file, which is not a registered filetype for anything I've ever seen.
Point being, my system can't recognize it, and nothing I can do will change that.

So, perhaps you misundertood me. Yes, a file's location will contain a period for the filetype, but you can't have one within the name of the file itself, or more than one in the path. So something like C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\Skytower2222.000.zip is invalid. As would be D:\My Pictures\Sample.name.jpg. It won't recognize it as a JPEG image. It will want to think it's a .name file. It's the same reson you can't have slashes in the name, they denote seperation into folders and subfolders.

This is what I get when I try to open the folder:
http://picturehosting.simvision.net/uploads/post-30-1112496141.png

And this is what I get when I right click and go to Extract all:

So, if you think that somehow these files are usable, SHOW ME, WITH SCREENSHOTS, STEP BY STEP, HOW TO DO SO. Because I can't do jack with them.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.
If you can read this, you deserve a cookie.
