CO demand

I'm playing a region with large tiles and about 1.5 Mill Sims. It has 5 cities all with excellent education, all watered, great health, all have well funded airports and all rewards are used.

But I can't get demand for CO. I have lots of demand for R$, R$$, CS and I. I've lowered taxes on CO to as low as 1.5% and it does move it a bit but only CO$(and R$$$ but not CO$$) and barely above zero.

I'm also surprised at the Sims income levels only around 25-30K. Like I said all cities have education is near 200 and mayor rating is also great.

It's next to impossible to tell anything without seeing the cities or any more information (an overview shot of some cities and the demand bars would be great), but do CO buildings get built at all? Often the given demand can be spread over so many free lots (or lots that can be overgrown) that the game will constantly develop a multitude of small CO buildings or overgrow existing commercial buildings with slightly bigger CO buildings so that demand can never really build up although a lot gets done.

Most likely you need more r$ and r$$ before co$$ demand will return. It is possible that you have hit a demand cap on co$$, you can check the census repository to see if this is the case. Search census on the stex if you dont have it.

Thanks. Less information overload than the repository facility.

OK, downloaded the suggested query mod tool.

It says I have a Regional Comm. Cap of 928K and Occupany of 916k.

    Then is says:

    CO$$/CO$$$ Cap status 26%/14%

    CO$$ Demand (active) 248k (-4,573)

    CO$$$ Demand (active( 359k (-3367)

So help me understand what this means? I belive the 26/14% means that I'm at 26 and 14% capacity, so I'm not close to my demand cap. Is that right?

    Two questions:

    1. what does the rest of it mean (ie. Demand Cap active and Regional Com. cap vs Occupancy)

    2. Do I or do I not have demand cap problems? If so or if not....then what is my problem with not having demand for CO and how do I fix it?

I have all kinds of connections in every direction of a tile - mostly roads and subways. Probably an average of 7 roads and 4 sub connections to each neighboring city (all 4 corners). I also have used every reward, including Convention Center which relieve demand caps.

Well, Charlie Brown, I have the same problem with that mod, but I interpret it like this:

The regional stuff is a summation, and I don't know how he gets that because he'd have to do some I/O to get it, I think. Maybe the tables carry it, because it has to do with neighbor connections.

In your case this says, I think, than you have 916k regional jobs occupied with a capacity of 928K which could be some unemployment (you need more Sims in your region)

I take active to mean 'current city'. and the negative numbers mean unfilled jobs. If you don't have CO demand it means you don't need any more, and these stats pretty much say that. What you need is more Sims, and probably all categories in the ratio of lower:middle:upper = 50:35:15. Remember, the higher the fewer. Try increasing your education level, and make more room for Sims to progress. Take your time, and don't rush it.

How is your Sims demand, anyway?

Education is near max 200. Demand for R is strong for R$ med for R$$ and negative (but only a little) for R$$$. I put in the I doubler and changed some I zones to R and it did increase my C0 demand to positive.

I guess I just don't get why my IM demand was max and my CO was negative, when education and health were very high.

The mod is supposed to tell me about demand caps. So how do I interpret that? And what do the percentages tell me?

How about a screen shot of your city showing the demand bars. Perhaps two pix, one with the zoning display turned on.

I'm not sure if this will work but recently I discovered CO grows rapidly when the RES also has farming... Maybe a bit simple and your city is probably past that stage but it's just a suggestion...

I've noticed this too. It is actually a problem for me because I want to develop a farming community and it is difficult to grow something realistic when all the commercial zones turn into office towers (small ones, but office space nonetheless). I've tried raising taxes on CO, and it works, but it also seems to get the other C demand out of wack.
