Here's what I've done so far.  At the left, is the indian that's over the main arch in the front of the building.  To the right, are the three different indians that are on the thick columns on the side of the building.  Nothing's been scaled yet.  Also, when I texture it, I'll make sure to make the details stick out more.

Wow great job Jason! Have you thought about 150 West Jefferson? Or dare I say it...the Ren Cen? No matter what you do, it will be awesome!

heheh, I don't think I'll ever do the ren cen.  It's too much.  150 W Jefferson is something I wouldn't mind doing, but there are other buildings that I'd rather do first.

I've worked on the main entrance, and it's sorta coming along, but it doesn't look as good as I want it to.  I'm going to look around to see if I can find any of the actual plans for the building.  Then I'd be able to work a lot faster and more accurate.  If anybody can help me find some plans or diagrams, it would really be appreciated.

Have you tried searching the Library of Congress? Seems to be the best place to find plans for historic buildings.

Looks like a pretty sweet start, Jason.  If that's any indication, I can see why you say this one will take a while.  I'm pretty excited to see this one come along.

Try contacting Jeremy Prince at SmithGroup architects.  He did some modeling stuff with downtown Detroit and has some precise massing of the building.  I don't have the email address off the top of my head, I'll have to look it up.

WOW Jason, even though it's a little bit that's done, it still looks awesome; really looking forward to seeing the rest someday! I can see the Penobscot from just about anywhere in my neighbourhood, and everytime I see it I can't help but be excited!3.gif

Something I've been working on today while I wait for stuff for the Penobscot Building.

It's inspired by a CD case.  It's supposed to be Bladerunner-ish, though it probably doesn't look it yet.

It's designed to fit on a 4x2 (or 2x4), but unlike most my buildings so far, there is space around the building on the lot (about 1/4th a tile on each side).  The building will sit on some columns, so it's elevated from the ground.

The render I showed isn't the right size though.  I don't know how to make it render the same size as it would show up in the game in 3dsmax.

Some work texturing it.  Also, a close up of the windows.  At zoom 5 in the game, the shape of the windows should be visible.  The window shape and thickness is about the same as Fisk Insurance.

A building designed after a CD case! Whatever drug you take, take less! *ROFL* No, seriously: Very creative approach this time, and something totally different. It does resemble a CD case, one of those fat 2/3/4 cases. And as usual, your window textures make an unspectacular front look really interesting. Aren't you going to add any windows to the sides, though? They might end up a bit too bare if they stay like this... then again, I bet you have some more aces up your sleeve, so I'll just sit back and wait for what's coming next. 4.gif

Hey there, wait a minute... your member label changed! Since when are you the BSP BAT Master? Well, actually since the day you joined BSP, but I mean officially.

    heheh, thanks.

Yes, exactly, it's inspired by a double cd case (the beatles anthology case), that's also where the ridges come from (for some reason the cd case has grips on the sides, lol).  The blind wall is supposed to be faceless and inhumane (I'm getting deep, aren't I 3.gif), but if it doesn't look good when I'm done working on it, I'll definintly change it.

lol, yeah, a few days ago budweiserdude had my custom member label changed. 1.gif

I'm having a problem with something else.  I figured I'd work on some stuff in Hart Plaza downtown, thinking it would be super quick and easy, but I ran into a texturing problem.  Below is what I wrote in the BAT Workshop texturing issues thread.  If you have help, post it there so that other people can see it in the future.  I found out this thing is called "The Pylon" (never knew what it was called), and I noticed that I have it twisted in the wrong direction.

    pylonprev1yk4.jpg

I have a twisted, 90°, box (to the left).  I want the lines to be like the picture on the right.

I tried uvw unwrap, but I can't figure it out at all, lol.  I got it to the point where I had all of the sections made, but I couldn't figure out how to apply a material from after that.  All of the tutorials I've read think I already know how to do that part, but I don't.

I also tried making an individual plane, giving it a plane uvw map, and then converting it to a poly and twisting it myself, but that doesn't work out.

I've worked on the base (if you could call it that), and I've modified the window texture.

I can make the LODs, so that at the bottom, the lot will be filled with trees.  I think that would be interesting.
