Wow, you all are indeed going to be surprised when you find out what it is.

However, I think SimHoTToDDy has it right on what it really is, hehe, just like Philip Johnson's Chippendale chest of drawers.

Very nice project, this small house. I really like this building in RL. I really like that you are making some of the best buildings of the (maybe) greatest architect of modern architecture....

Hi beutelschlurf!  It is the Farnsworth House!  44.gif

Others knew as well, but now is a good time to confirm it.  For SC4 purposes, I could finish it the next time I work on it, but I also plan on using this to put into my architecture portfolio (as an example of modeling and rendering), so I'll be modeling the rest of it carefully.  I thought that the windows were just normal storefront window systems, but it turns out they are custom designed, using a variety of steel sections, which I should have figured.  Everything I've modeled so far is very close to being accurate dimensions.  I'd say that it's accurate down to about an inch.  I also plan on rendering this as a HD BAT.  I don't know how I'll be lotting it (I obviously can't include the entire forested property, but I'd still like to include some context).

Also, I've just seen your BAT thread on SC4D.  Your BATs are looking good!  You're welcome to start a thread here if you'd like to.

Hey Jason! I know I haven't been around much lately, I'm suffering from an acute case of Real Life Syndrome. But the Farnsworth house should be awesome; now we can have Miesian shrines in our cities, what with the Barcelona Pavillion and all. 4.gif And the project for your architecture class is cool too - very original.

Here's progress on my architecture school project.  The top image is what I posted about a month ago.  The bottom image is where it currently stands.    There won't be any design changes, I'm just finishing the model.  This render is from a different angle (the old one is looking NW and the new one is looking NE).

When are you done? I haven't seen you come down to the MC to print. I should enjoy being finished with grad school, but all these undergrad architecture print jobs being dropped off are exhausting me. I work 10:00 a.m to midnight (14 hours straight!)  tomorrow (Thursday) at the print shop.  Stop on by.

Progress on Farnsworth House.  I'm hoping to have the BAT completed this weekend, and then it will go into the modding queue.  There will be an R$$$ version and a landmark version.  Beforehand I was making everything super accurate, down to the inch, using plans and construction drawings from the internet, but now I'm just finishing it up.  Still though, everything is very accurate.

I finished my architecture school project a few weeks ago, and since then I've actually graduated from architecture school.  I have a portfolio website which I'll share here one of these days.

    Thanks!

Here's an update on the Farnsworth House.  The day version has been exported, however, I think I'll need to go back and make the porch a little less bright.  I did almost all of the furniture, but for most of it I just roughly modeled the solid parts (didn't do the steel legs).  The furniture and it's arrangement is accurate based on photos from the last few years.  At night the furniture may show up better.

When I did the Barcelona Pavilion, people said that it ended up looking too dirty/run down, and I'd like to avoid that for this one.  How is it looking?

I think it's looking good. Not rundown at all. You're right though, you need sunglasses to look at that porch! It's definitely too bright.

Of course, the problem is that roofs usually look dirty and run down, and on these modern buildings, that's what you see the most. This is looking great though! (Excepting the porch, of course lol.)
