simfan34: the book cadillac is a bit too big and fancy.  It's in my plans though, to do the guardian building.

tzotzill99: yep!  I think so anyway.  the marque is made of an extruded spline in the shape of the marque, with extruded text for the words, and little 5 or 6 sided spheres with a .2 radius (I think) spaced out on the edges for the lightbulbs.

    theaterprev4fi.jpg

It's going to be the Regal Theater, and here's the progress on the marquee and the night lighting.  I'd say it looks pretty good! 19.gif  Any critiques would be helpful though.  Also, any suggestions for movies, plays, musicals, bands, or music to go on the marquee would be good too.

Also, I think it's possible to give the marquees random prop families, and each marquee can have a different attraction listed.  Both marquees might not have the same thing listed at any given time, since both of them are random.  Having alot of marquee props might increase the size of the file, so it's up to y'all if there will be random things playing or not.

Frwkain awesome work Jason. The building above is probably the best and original theater Ive seen. It looks like the one in my town of Davenport Iowa. Well anyway, not sure if you like making parks or not, but I was just curious if you could make the infamous fountain that is featured many times in the beginning of the show "Married with Children". That'd be magnificant if you could do that. Great job with all your work, please continue overflowing your excellence into the STEX and the Simtropolis website 4.gif.

I'm pretty sure that fountain is Buckingham Fountain in Chicago. I have BATted it, search for it on the STEX. (shameless self-plug, lol)

So - the Regal looks amazing. If you'd like, you can have two different versions - one that randomizes, and one that doesn't.

i think i can come up with a few for the marquee: Dogs with Shoes, Frank the Farmer, Goat in Ghana, Khaki Man Gone Wacky, MI:III, Nacho Libre, Charlie, Scary Movie 4, Silent Hill. how about those?

I got sorta tired of doing old buildings, so I started 211 West Fort Street in Detroit.  I just started it today, and have only spent 2 or 3 hours on it, but unfortunatly, I can't find any pictures of the base of the building.

This is the second update on this building.  The first update on this building can be found in the Barry Sanders Project thread, and that's also where all future updates will be going on this building, since this is a Detroit building.

    211wfa2er.jpg

It turns out that the real 211 west fort has pretty reflective glass already, so mines actually less reflective.  I started the glass texture, since all of the glass except for the first floor is done, and I can do that texture seperatly.  I can also do the roof, but I'd rather wait untill I have the rest done, because that will determine if I make it white/light grey like in real life, or if I'll make it more like maxis roofs.  I can't do the white wall texture yet because I haven't modeled the bottom (still need pictures).

Looks good. I have a question for you. Is that all one pane of glass or are those individual windows that you have used different glass textures on?

There's about 4 panes streched across each floor so that it will take less time to make them nitelites later on. After all of the windows are in place, I go edit>select by color (i color code everything), then I group them together, give it a box uvwmap (since the shape of all of the planes together is actually a box now), and they all get the same texture. The texture is custom made using a screenshot of the side of the building in wireframe. So they're seperate so they can be nitelited, but texturing wise, they act as one pane.

    Thanks! 1.gif

the green building is the Khoury Art Foundation Building, a CO$$$ found in the euro tileset.  (wrong left).  according to SC4 Tool, it's Templin Manor. yeah, I'm working on a theater, even though I said I wouldn't, lol. 18.gif  I had been wondering if you'd notice, lol.

I've been trying to find pictures of the base of that building, but so far no luck.

I did a little bit of work on the theaters roof, but that's all.  I'm having trouble making a texture for the top of the theater part, so I need to work on that part more too.

I am really gonna miss your old style buildings, I was a HUGE fan of 'em. Oh well we all need a change, and its not like you're quitting, and hopefully, HOPEFULLY one day you'll be inspired to do old buildings again 2.gif

don't worry, lol, I'll always be doing old buildings.  It's just that right now I wanted to BAT, but I didn't feel like doing any of the tedious work associated with old buildings.

Thanks for the reply Jason! That's a neat way of doing it that hadn't occurred to me. I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever take on a larger project. Thanks for sharing.

I'm going to be out of town for the weekend, so there won't be any new work for a few days.

ardecila:  I think I might try putting ribing on it.

spa: no problem!  I do it this way for all my buildings.  Making the new window texture doesn't actually take very long.

hizzy_01: thanks for stopping by, I'm glad you decided to place your first post in my thread! 1.gif

Ok, the three train stations are lotted and modded. Have a look at the icons I made; they will automatically be sorted neatly in a row right behind the default small passenger station. Neat-o, huh?

    jasoncwstationicons2cc.jpg

Of course you also noticed how the three stations can be told apart by their icons, and how the inscription lights up a bit more when you have one of the smaller single-track stations selected.

Screenhots are also taken, so all it takes now is a readme and zipping those suckers up for the upload. 10.gif

I believe there is something a bit odd about the "jasoncw" rail stations.. At least with respect to the SC tool showing traffic flow.. it seems to have some kind of visual "short circuit" in it.. It may be working fine, as I haven't had time to get into the details, but the traffic seems to go in on the SIDING track, no matter if you have a main or not, and the "bypass" traffic that would have gone via the main, then "jumps" out to the main track again across the tracks. lol.. Then on the siding track (the one the station is on) the "output" side goes normally with the boarders leaving and proper count. The sims who disembark tho seem to just "poof" on the end of an arrow.. I'll get the details on this when I have time to play with it.. The small and the large I've used and observed so far, but not the middle one as yet.. The LARGE btw, even tho it has another track, seems to never get the boarders off.. it just sends them along the "middle" track just as they were passing through and no sims get off.. the "standard" stations seem to work ok still.. The large acts as tho the trains never get to the "sidewalk" .. Of course I may be using the wrong in some way.. I assumed the "arrow" on the placement shadow is to point to the road contact side as it does in the standard station

I will have a look into the stations again, thanks for the info. To be honest, I didn't quite get what you mean, but maybe I'll see what you mean when I play around with them a bit.
