Hello all,

Last year I started a CJ entitled 'The New Forest', it was a recreation that got to the eight update and just died. Sim City 4 decided to delete my region folder during play and I lost everything :rage:

But over the last few months I have started a new project, albeit somewhat similar. However this time I've learnt my lessons.

I'm now using a nice accurately scaled map from drunkapple; the last one was nice but way too small. I've also backed up everything on an 8GB flash drive so that if Sim City does break things again I'm prepared

So without further ado and bad padding, here's my latest (and hopefully greatest) CJ:

Basically, my last one failed, due to many problems including my own. So I'm starting fresh, a new region, a new set of plugins and better skills.

This will be a recreation of my hometown, Bournemouth, and the surrounding areas. Urban and countryside alike.

It is an English seaside resort, founded in the 19th century as a place for Londoners to come to experience the golden sands and blue seas.

It is hard enough to recreate a US city which is on a grid, so a large English town will result in a lot of swearing and broken monitors I presume due to the games limitations, it's not impossible however.

This will be a diary of construction as well as a place for me to put pretty Photoshop pictures :)

I do (surprisingly) have a plan, first make all the regions roads, then zone and flora. In that order; last time I got ahead of my self and zoned way too early.

Anyhow, here are some nice preview images for you all:

3 miles further up the road, the sun rises at last near the local pub.

I have much, much more in store later, but for now, Happy New Year and see you on the other side of the international date line :P

I like it! As all recreations are, I'm sure it will be a bit daunting. Really lovely pictures so far, though! ^_^

Very nice start. It must be cool to recreate the city you live in, and i'm sure it will be realistic, cuz you live there and you know the place.

Fantastic start - having been to Bournemouth myself, I must say that it looks really promising. I especially like the rural pub.

^^Not. The traffic lights are actually RHD in the pics he showed. Look again, closely...

Anyway, stunning work, Danni!

They appear over the Left lanes to me, which is different to my game

    Ecoba - Thank you Ethan.

Emperordaniel - Thanks, it was very time consuming to edit it in

Benedict - The funny thing is, that's just a random cottage anyway. The pub is out of shot. Also, thank you for the Top Ten #1 spot, that was a nice surprise :D

MamaLuigi945 - It certainly took a while to paint the terrain, I can tell you that

Nathanthemayor - That's just a normal day in 'sunny' Britain

    Kakado_to_save - Thanks Kaka

Escilnavia - Indeed you did friend

Vlasky - Then more you shall have

Towerdude - Well Dudu, it's private property, you may be arrested for breaking in...

Rugeley123 - Yup, it's definitely a Citation, not sure which one though, that's your area of expertise

Lobsterav - Thank you for commenting

    9988 - Thanks, have a ducky too

Paulobergonci - Well in theory that should help, but at the end of the day it's whether the game decides to behave or not

Samerton - Thanks Sam! Hopefully I'll be able to get further with this one

Aliasrm13 - Thank you ! It's always nice to see fellow English on here. In regard to the traffic lights, they're some French style ones found in this mod here.

ThomasSimpson - Ah, well then I have someone to judge how I do with this

    Testuser1234 - Urm..thank you?

Merlin Of Flyote - As pointed out by Mrtnrln, they're not. The link is just further above...

    Mrtnrln - Thank you Maarten

    Dumanios - Thanks!

Kj3400 - Much more is on it's way

    Jotuaveefe - Thanks Javier

Simbourgeois - *GIMP Thanks for the comment

Thanks for all the replies peeps. There were a lot more than I expected

    :O

Anyway, today's update is more of a short progress report than anything else, I haven't had much time to get things done thanks to school now limiting my SC4 time :(

So this is what I've actually got done so far:

    regionview8thjan.jpg

As you can see, two large city tiles have been nearly completed. But after this I will have to fiddle with my config.bmp to get things to fit in right again

And here is a nice real map of the general area to compare, see if you can spot some of the infrastructure

    realifemapnorthbournemo.jpg

I hope I've kept it fairly accurate to real life, it's hard with the games limitations..

That's all for this week, but I will have something a bit more interesting soon, I just can't say when exactly :P
