(White gravy is typically made from poultry, brown from beef or pork. Difference between sauce and gravy is that gravy is made with meat of some sort, so when you have spaghetti and meatballs, as an example, the tomato sauce(from a jar or homemade) if made with meat is called gravy. You might notice a lot of Italian American's refer to it as gravy. Putting some gravy on french fries can be tasty and in some of the diners around here on the menu you can find items such as chili cheese fries and disco fries. Disco fries being french fries covered in melted cheese and brown gravy poured over it. Not my cup of tea but other people seem to really like it.)
