This looks great! Is it possible to have roads intersecting with a small entry/exit lane? Below is an example:

Key:

Red = Road
Black = Highway Edge
Blue = Central Devider

Traffic Turns into the gap on the left bwfore turning into road. Traffic entering the RHW will turn into entry lane before joining the mainline traffic. I forget what the lanes are called.

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

A turning lane basically. If they did it with the avenues in NAM I don't see why it can't be possible here. Very nice mod BTW, I'll look to see if I can find somewhere to use it 1.gif

Kinda hard to tell, but I think he might be talking about an acceleration lane..

This isn't a great picture, but this is what @MrVegetable is talking about in regards to the right turn lane for streets/roads intersecting the RHW. It allows turning vehicles to safely get out of the mainline flow of traffic while slowing down to make the turn.

i put it much earlier in the thread, but i had an idea that maybe for the RHW rail crossing that the gates should be those more elaborate ones with the metal thing holding more lights over the road.

the right turn lane idea is really cool btw

One thing on-topic: Hooray! I figured out a way to make neighbor connections function! (they don't in the current release) It requires three tiles and a clever trick on the game, but it sure is better than nothing. 39.gif

Hi Qurlix. I am quite curious about the way you found on how to make neighbor connections with HWY. Is this something we can do with the current 0.12 version of the mod or will it only be possible with the updated 0.15 version? I waited a few weeks for mode details on your findings. Could you advance the secrets of the solution to us, simple mortals? 19.gif
Cheers, BAP

I can not seem to get the RHW to work, I have read and re-read the instructions, are there any known conflicts? or maybe a trick I am overlooking. Thank you

Until revamping the RHW engine gets done, the turning lanes and longer versions of ramps are put on hold. I wish there was a way to detect a class of tiles...sorry...rambling again.

Next update? Well, I honestly haven't talked to my teammates in a long time, but I've personally been chugging away, much like the Little Engine that Could. I'm thinking of having version 0.15 out on Simtropolis' 3rd Birthday...I'm planning a big celebration anyway. (For those of you who don't know, January 11th, 2006)

Though, technically, ST is already a bit over three, I think. Only dirk and ry could say for sure.

Rail props? I'll have to create separate DATs for left- and right-hand driving then...but I guess that was needed anyway (as some of you saw with the lines on the rail tiles)

bap: Yeah, that was a bit unclear. The neighbor connection is planned for next release. I have not found a way to get it to work in the current version.

DJGspinNhitz: The RHW has no known conflicts. The only thing I can say is what I've probably already said. Make sure it loads after the NAM and the NAM ANT plugin. And make sure you don't have and NAM-modifying mods (like old versions of roundabout mods or turning lanes). Network texture-changing mods are ok, though (2-Lane ANT, Euro Road, Suicide Lanes, etc.)

I am sadly unaware of how to fix your problem otherwise. If you want to try and reinstall the NAM, that helped some people.

Hopefully version 0.15 will work for you. It's looking to be simpler, more stable, and single-ly icon-ed.

    Hey guys!

I'm back to simcity and simtropolis. I took a several month break due to real life factors (lots of drama going on in my personal life, work stress, school, etc.. i was overwhelmed and needed to take a break)

Anyway, glad to see how this project has evolved. I hope it's not to late to contribute 1.gif qurlix we'll be in touch

DJGspinNhitz: I had a similar problem when I installed the RHW. I ended up having to remove, then re-install the NAM mod into the Plugins folder. Then I installed the RHW mod and it worked.

    Hey Guys,

I recently reformatted my HD and I tried to download the RHW, but it wouldnt let me.  Is there anywhere else I can get it?

OK, the problem seems to be that the Finalnd version will download but not the Canadian version.  2 questions, is there a diffference?  And come on Canada, get with the program here.  Why cant you be more like Finland 7.gif ?

Well, latetely, the server has been having problems. I'm quasi-working on fixing that, considering I got let off school today for Christmas break.

Mirror, as vester_dk said, is only an alternate location to get the file from. It's no different of a file. I don't get why you critise Canada for this, yet I'll admit we should be more like the Fins...

On a more related note, I finally think I got the domain quasi-functional. I need to figure out a few things; meanwhile feel free to see if this link (http://rhwmod.no-ip.info/ >) works.

Downloading using this hostname *may* solve the download problems.

Please try to give some input on whether it works now or not (using this hostname). It would be appreciated.

Well, qurlix says he's been working on neighbour connections. He also says there are quite a few more features that he is working on, e.g. advanced diagonals, some junctions (reminds me, I need to do those textures, still 9.gif), etc.

No idea as for release, though.

    Hey Guys,

Where do I save the file?  C Drive ---> Program Files ---->  Maxis ----->  Plugins?

Actually not... All you have to do is to ensure it loads after the NAM. Which means that name of the file (or folder, if you put it out of NAM folder) starts with a letter later in alphabets. So having folders named 'NAM' and 'RHW' is fine, since R comes after N.

I'd like to share what I've done and tried using the currently released version! I just took a toy city I've been working on and replaced a regular ground highway with the new RHW.

Coming into town, the highway turns into a main avenue.
    7411355506131lv.th.jpg alt=Free Image Ho
(I know earlier on in the thread someone expressed confusion about Michigan lefts - they're used heavily on high-traffic main roads and in real-life they help add traffic capacity, if not speed. With SC4 avenues, I believe a one-way road intersection has a higher traffic capacity /and/ speed than a road or street intersection.)

Ah, I see some of the city's population has yet to upgrade to the new flying car model... those poor saps still have to go around the old-fashioned way.
    7411355551715xh.th.jpg alt=Free Image Ho
(And they work at a sewage plant! As if to add insult to injury...)

The leftover avenue-style RHW-to-ground highway transitions look fine.
    7411355506913tf.th.jpg alt=Free Image Ho

Meanwhile, at the other end of town...
They just want to be friends... sniff...
    7411355507918xz.th.jpg alt=Free Image Ho

Started trying to build a flyover exit (like the in-game T highway interchanges) and realized that only the orthogonal road puzzle pieces were finished.
    7411355543219sv.th.jpg alt=Free Image Ho

The diagonal logic may not detect side-by-side like the orthogonal does, but it sure plops and bulldozes a lot quicker!
    7411355515231pm.th.jpg alt=Free Image Ho

I happened upon something unexpected but cool here:
    7411355509553gn.th.jpg alt=Free Image Ho

First, about that dotted-line default NAM... I picked that up after deciding that the NAM would be good to use as a rural (backwoods) two-lane highway and finding out that someone had already done the retexturing far better than I could have. I believe Teirusu gave me the file.
Here it is kept company by some PEG water, PEG trees, a PEG hydro dam... and a partidge in a pear tree. I mean, one of those new water towers on the STEX.
    6511353995000ki.th.jpg alt=Free Image Ho
Anyway, if you guys would like to incorporate it somehow, that dotted-line patch (it's just a non-invasive retexturing) would compliment the RHW very well, as seen below:
    7411355510879yp.th.jpg alt=Free Image Ho
Even with the NAM ANT-to-Avenue transition, it doesn't look bad. With the RHW into the mix, we can make 2, 4, or 6 lane limited-access highways!

Very encouraging work, folks! 1.gif If you need anyone to test, that's what I do best. I'd also be happy to help in any other way if you designers are shorthanded at some point. Either way, this is a great project and I'd love to see it through to completion.

    Wassup Colligan.

Do you believe that the roads capacity at 2x2 for the most part is not enough? This road is expected to carry 160,000 cars a day.

I know that this mod is still in beta stage, but I was wondering if it'll be planned to add the rural highways to the regional transportation view. Currently, rural highways segments don't show in the region view and it looks really strange. Here is an example from my region, there is a rural highway section between the 2 red normal higways, but it looks like there is nothing :

    London095784325.jpg

I don't know if it would be hard to do this, but it would be greatly appreciated 2.gif!

Anyway, thanks for the work so far, it's a great mod!

No, they look like crap. Seriously. In real life, when highways change state like this, the three lanes don't just dump into an area with no lane markings and have only two come out the other side. One of the side lanes ends, and the other two keep going. Although, to be fair, the default maxis highway to avenue transfer looks like crap for the same reason....

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.
If you can read this, you deserve a cookie.

Duke87: You're absolutely right about the avenue-highway transition, but another thung I've noticed that the lanes on the avenue and RHW are wider than the lanes on the highway. But we know in the real world that normally the lanes on a highway are wider than those on an avenue.

Hmmm...I guess the developers at Maxis just ran out of room5.gif
