The AltSTEX is closed until the real STEX goes back down again, to prevent my bandwidth and dirk's from taking critical hits, but dirk's pretty cool with the idea, and I thank him for letting me run this site to begin with.

EDIT: Our advisory board of llamas (read: legal team) said we should put up a disclaimer on the rainbow toggler so we don't get sued for bajillions of dollars. We're also required to make it accessible to international users, so it's in Spanish and Afrikaans. So yeah.

The Alt Stex is great. Now theres a place thats open 24/7 where i can go to download STEX content.  It also offers one of a kind features like rainbow mode, a feature that no other SimCity Excahnge has.

I have witnessed the awesome glory of the AltSTEX. I used to despise the STEX going down, but now..........well, I'm okay with it.

My first reaction: Haha, what?? Very interesting... and clever.

My second reaction: As we all probably know by now, at some point in time, the site is going to be upgraded. When exactly, nobody knows.

Yes, the STEX has been down quite a lot lately, but this is no doubt for a very good reason. Your site could be really useful to some people in the near future, but I'm confident that the STEX will be back to normal soon enough.

Also, it looks like the download links on that site point straight back to the STEX server anyway, so if that goes down, well...

And a question, if an upload is locked or deleted on the main STEX, are the download links on your site automatically removed?

No, the download links would have to be manually removed, though it isn't a difficult process to manually remove entries.

Well, we all know that Simtropolis and the STEX are having a major overhaul; but I think the AltSTEX is a very useful and handy way to satisfy your download needs when the site is down (now, or in the future...)

On second thoughts, I don't think it'll actually matter too much. As far as I'm aware, whenever an upload is deleted, it's deleted from the server altogether.

I'll just ask that you stay on top of any locked files - especially things like city file uploads. I'm sure you're smart enough to see the problem there.

My life has made a huge change after the AltSTEX was released; At last I can continue my life normally even when the STEX is down! No more waiting for ages to get my downloads; Just a click to AltSTEX and another to get my files! I don't know how I lived without it anymore!

Apparently, the AltSTEX is still in use after the STEX went back up. Usage peaked at 2 AM, but even at 11 AM, remained pretty popular.

Well, what it lacks in style it makes up for in handiness.  Nice, work, simmaster, pretty savvy!  

I know the STEX lately has been up and down, and more down than up, so I appreciate the undertaking to provide the community with a way to get at the good stuff while we extricate llamas from broccoli.

As Cockatoo had implied, there are some upgrades in the works, which explains the recent ups-and-downs, and after it's all said and done, we will definitely be better for it.

In the meantime, AltSTEX is a good stop-gap measure until we get our upgrades off finalized and off the ground.

If you guys could do me a favour and keep AltSTEX as a temporary Simtropolis-members only service, that would be most appreciated, after all, I am thinking that the STEX bandwidth should remain primarily to benefit Simtropolis Community members only (and not other communities).  I hope you understand what I mean (AltSTEX is still using our bandwidth).

Anyway, I'm glad we have a temporary bandaid.  Once our ugprades are complete, we should be back to relatively smoother sailing.  Thanks for your patience everyone, and appreciate the effort, simmaster.

If the STEX server stays up during the upgrade and the URLs aren't changed, the AltSTEX should be relaunched later tonight.
