I actually attempted to write a novel once. Got a fair bit in before running out of ideas and letting it sit for a while... and then deciding it was flawed and needed some reworking... and then deciding it was completely stupid and needed to simply be scrapped outright.

Although, I don't think I actually threw it away. It should still be sitting in a notebook at my parents' house somewhere.

Match 7 of the Sheffield Shield is in the second session of its 3rd day, with QLD leading 273 and 2/171 against WA's 221.

It's stumps on day 2 in the Test between New Zealand and Zimbabwe, with New Zealand at 426 and Zimbabwe 1/82.

Pakistan's about to play their third Test of the season against Sri Lanka. I don't think they've quite started yet.

When I was unemployed earlier this year I cranked out about 150,000 words in two months (the result is a prose version of The Sensational Six, of which I have something like 130 parts and a ridiculous amount of words now). I like to write by the seat of my pants and rarely do any planning or outlining beforehand. It's pretty much all stream-of-consciousness, although I do like to go back and re-read it and improve it from time to time. The Sensational Six turned out to be episodic, and doesn't really work as a novel (although from the beginning I decided it was going to be a short story, which then became a series of short stories). It'd be better as a series of some kind. With my current work I'm trying to keep it in my head as a self-contained story that has a real beginning and ending. I have an idea of what's going to happen, I just have to not get sidetracked before getting there.

I think that's a big part of writing: being interested in the topic. There were a lot of papers that were just torture to write because the topic was awful or stupid or boring.

Indeed. I was recently asked to write a short personal bio for work. What I produced... well it has all the passion of "I don't want to do this but I'm doing it because I have to" in it. I can't write without inspiration, and I hate writing formal stuff.

I write short stories based off of dreams I had or fan fiction of animated music videos (I submitted one such short story for a writing class but the plot was different enough from the song and I changed the names of all the characters to be more realistic.

Heh, a short biography? That can be one of the hardest things to write, ever. We had to write little blurbs about ourselves at the English conversation school I worked at. I agonized for days over a stupid, five line paragraph...

Also making things difficult is that there are a lot of things about myself that are best not put in something formal for work.

I have to describe myself professionally. Ugh.

It is really humid here. I know this because every time I hang my laundry out to dry my sweatshirts and my wife's sweaters are never not still damp at the end of the day. It's frustrating.

I like being drunk and playing NCAA Football on my PS3. Although I liked it a WHOLE lot more on PS2. Somehow, the older games were just more fun. The new ones, the controls are all different, the recruiting is far too deep and it feels like work, and when I'm in Dynasty mode on my third beer, the last thing I want to be faced with is a decision when personally visiting a recruit about how I should pitch my university. Really, EA Sports? That's fun?
