Well, there are a lot of interesting roads out there to see. And you cover the most ground if you keep moving as much as you can.

Other potential point of fun: I bet people over on the other side of the country don't see too many cars with Connecticut plates...

You joke, but that is in fact a concern. This thread will make it to 10,000 no matter what we discuss, but other threads will end up shorter if people post about the topic here instead of there.

Besides, it just seems disorganized and improper to have discussions from elsewhere leaving the bounds of their appropriate thread. This is a conversational homeless shelter. Conversations with homes don't belong here.

The page flip bug was not the reason we stopped the old thread. Lag and clunkiness demand that occasionally the thread be cut off and restarted, and 10,000 is definitely the roundest number that it's convenient to do that at (1,000 is too small, 100,000 way too large). Even still, 334 pages of a thread is a lot, and it loads slooooowly.

I have to say on this matter what I've said before: no crazy ideas, please. Stick with the plan. It works, don't fnak with it.

If we keep up the average rate from the last 30 days (17.47 ppd), we'll make it to 10,000 on May 12th, 2012, having taken a total of 534 days to reach the mark. Considerably wide of the 439 days, 21 hours, and 17 minutes it took us to do it the first time (an average of 22.78 ppd). To make it to 10,000 in that time now, we'd have to average 23.45 ppd from here on out.

There was definitely a decrease in loading times after the upgrade to ST7, but we seem to have lost it.

The site is, as before, very temperamental with me. Sometimes pages load quickly. Sometimes they take a while to load. Sometimes I get nothing but network timeouts. The frequency of these three categories has shifted around (less of 2, more of 1 and 3), but I can't say there's been an overall improvement.

I can't print anything from my computer. The network printer in our house is going on six years old and there's no Windows 7 driver for it.

See, this is how Hewlett-Packard makes money. They're not going to let you hook up your perfectly good but old printer to your new computer. They're going to make you buy a new printer.

I could buy my own printer, but considering the general infrequency of me wanting to print anything, it's not worth it. Besides, I wouldn't have anywhere to put it.
