300. We're racing toward 10,000!

The reason for the English language having too many synonyms (gosh, I can't spell that!) Somebody had some major time on his hands, so he got some paper, and expanded the dictionary with random words that he could come up with. Pseudophosynthesis anyone?

Yet advertising firms still feel the need to make up ridiculous words. I despise made up words used to market products.

Some made up words can be quite nerifirriting.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I made it up. It describes made up words quite nicely though, don't you think?

And England is doing very well in the Test match against Australia. All of their first three batsmen have scored centuries, one got a double century. It's 1 wicket for 439 runs, they're ahead by 218, and it's the last day. We haven't had our second innings yet, but I don't think we're going to win this...

It's easier than Baseball. I have no idea why people find it so hard to understand.

Baseball is hit a ball and run around. Cricket may be hit a ball and run around, but they have a gazillion positions that sometimes are occupied and sometimes aren't and...okay Astro, that's all I remember. That and the games can last for days. 3.gif

OK, it can be explained in a very confusing manner, and it is really fun to do so. The basic idea is to get everyone on the other team out when you're fielding, and to get as high a score as you can when you're batting. You are not required to run when you hit the ball, and you stay in until someone gets you out. When 10 people get out the team is out, and then it's your turn to field and the other team's turn to bat. You can hit the ball anywhere you are physically able to.

A googly is a way to bowl the ball so it hits on the left of the pitch and bounces to the right.

If it helps, here are the Laws of Cricket.

315 (I got sniped, but I like your explanation, astro.)

    *sigh*

Baseball is so much more than hit a ball and run around. Cricket may well be more than that too, but I have no desire to learn about it so I'll never know. Anyone's lack of understanding towards baseball would likely be explained by the same indifference. But keep this in mind, if either sport were capable of being simplified so far, would it hold the interest of so many for so long?

Yeah, there's a bug which makes the reply count for that one two fewer than it should be. Ideally it should read 9,999 replies, as the first post isn't counted.

Good night Kitty! I will go to bed soon enough.

I have been surprised by all the trolling on the Cities XL forums here and at Focus. I don't accuse many people of being outright trolls but the game sure has attracted a lot of trollers.

I cannot edit posts on my iPhone so if I was sniped, oh well.

Lol, astro, it's a lot harder to explain cricket than you thought isn't it? Although you did a good job, I can't do better.

Australians bowl and feliding performance so far today was uneventful at most, and repetitive. Just pace, and the batsmen obviously had their eye in. The spin was great, 12.5 degrees of turn on some balls, fantastic. Should have stuck to the spinners for longer. I wouldn't be surprised if England actually wins the ashes, although the game is going towards a draw.

So, five days of hard fought cricket, and the game has ended in a draw. Some may wonder how a game can be played for five days and not end in a result. But the actual result doesn't always reflect the true quality of the match. The two teams (England and Australia) are very well balanced and it will take some special individual performances to win a test match.

Cricket can be a bit confusing because of the terminology used. For example, fielding positions like square leg, silly point and third man. But once you understand the basics (like Astro pointed out) it is a very enjoyable game to play and watch. Not all games last for five days either. There are one day matches that can be more entertaining to watch.
