I would rather live on a hill overlooking the water.

Sometimes I wish something just like that. Most times for me it's in the mountains close to the snow or on the shore across from the harbor..

I wonder if every state in the US is represented on ST.

Duke do you have stats for this? :P

No, although given how many members we have, and how many of them come from North America, I'd be surprised if all 50 states aren't represented. Of course, if you demand that the representatives be active on the forum currently or historically, then probably not. I cannot offhand think of anyone from Alaska or Hawaii. Although, lots of people choose not to disclose even their general location, so...

Our current apartment is on a hill high enough to have pretty good views overlooking both the Black Sea (about a mile or so way) to the southwest, and the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains to the northeast. On a really clear day, we're often able to see the mountain range itself as well. :)

My mother lives in a large house on a hill overlooking a bay but it is in a suburb of the former industrial powerhouse, Tacoma and the mortgage is higher than the current land value.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Im going to say that it is very likely that there is.

Schulmanator has a nifty little gadget in his CJ, a Flag counter. Which lists every individual person to access a page that he has posted that image on. It currently lists the USA as having over 20,000 individual visitors. Im sure there would be at least one in every state.

He also has a map of this data posted in a link on his CJs too. So you can go through and check of each state. Alaska and Hawaii both have people accessing ST from. It also has the latest someone accessed from the region, and they are all very recent.

Larks, how many times do we have to tell you this? When a rap artist rips off an old song, we are referencing the original, not them.

I, for one, was referencing a completely unrelated TV show.

Finished watching The Legend of Korra, Book One: Air last night; it was a lot darker then Avatar: The Last Airbender (especially at the point where the antagonists met their end), but I loved it all the same. :)

Now I'm looking forward to The Legend of Korra, Book Two: Spirits, due to premiere in 2013.

So far my current book is George Orwell's 1984. It's the one where the quote 'Big Brother is watching' comes from. Only half way through the 1st part of 3 and I am really enjoying it. Hoping to finish it sometime this month.

I'm working my way back through Yukio Mishima's Sea of Fertility tetralogy (that's what's written on the cover). The first half of the first book is just AWFUL, a bunch of boring garbage about the unlikable, wimpy main character. Then he goes after the Prince's girlfriend and it gets a LOT better. The second book was fascinating, and then in the third book he avoids talking about WWII by having a long, in-depth exploration into Buddhism and the many different views and ideas surrounding reincarnation. That stuff is a bit out of my league, but the actual story is very interesting.

Today I learned that while it is possible for someone from Puerto Rico to become President of the United States, it's legally complex.

Being born in Puerto Rico counts as being born in the United States, but living in Puerto Rico does not count as living in the United States for the 14 years residency requirement.

That is very interesting. If they don't abolish the electoral college, they should group all the US territories with the international voters. That might also give the combined votes more than 3 electoral points. Also, Washington DC is special so it should get only 2 electoral points.

Last book I read was the last book in the Hunger Games series. I don't like movies very much. And books are free at the library.

Problem with this idea is that territories do not vote for any federal offices. In exchange, federal laws do not apply to them. For example, the drinking age in Puerto Rico is 18.

There's no law here in Russia against minors drinking alcohol, but you have to wait until you're 18 to buy it yourself.

Quebec is another place where no one ever gets carded.

New Jersey goes beyond the standard and requires you to be 19 to buy tobacco, not 18 like every other state.

I never smoked tobacco nor do I ever want to. I am 21 but I don't really care for alcohol. I like fruity drinks like cocktails and mixers, dessert wines, and cidre but that is it.

The local Magnit hypermarket (Magnit is a shopping chain that covers much of Russia - it's the #1 in the country by number of stores, with 7,109 of them in 1,319 locations, and has an annual profit of $333.7 million), which recently translated its food labels, signs, etc into English, apparently offers such things as "Meat Semiproducts", "Milk Gastronomy", "Dehydrated Fruits", and the ever-lovable "Konfectionary". :P

Here in America, most stores carry at least 5 different brands for every product. One of the names which gets me is a bakery named 'Bimbo'. For those who aren't familiar with the term it's a sophomoric name given to women who are attractive, yet not exactly the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree..
