I'm still here too, although I typically only check in once a week or so. I've been extremely busy lately. I have not even loaded up Sim City in about three months. Once the weather gets colder I'll probably get sick of walking around Detroit taking photos...then I will have time to play Sim City.

Keep in mind, this is the maximum set date, it may come out earlier do to the fact that I'm almost done.  And I know you guys are going to think I'm crazy, but the design changed again.  That last preview I showed you guys was ditched.

Hey all...

 

I'm still here too, in case anyone was worried or feeling overly mother-like.  (Is that a word?)  I saw the Trixie nomination, too... pretty cool!  I've been trying to keep up with this thread, but haven't commented much lately.  I've been playing with the BAT when I can, but I'm coming to the conclusion that I think I need to find an alternate method to help this project.  My skills and patience are just not up to the job of actually BATting...  I'm a huge fan of this whole idea, and would love to help, so if anyone has a suggestion of what else may need to be done, let me know.

 

There are some great lots out with the shiny new logo!  Congratulations to all!  Bud must have pulled quite the all nighter recently.

I did read most of the controversey a few pages back.  I guess it just took me this long to really go check out the STEX.  In fact, from the looks of it, I have a TON of catching up to do over there now, too!  Either way... glad everything worked out.

Thanks guys! I plan on putting this on a lot in a little bit because I have been making signs galore and am still going. So far I have 21 signs, a lot of them I am not sure if I can post on ST because they are ads for alcohol or stuff like the playboy bunny...Do you guys know what the policy is?

Not sure on that one... although someone's avatar is the playboy bunny.  I don't know what that might mean, though.  My guess, given the number of younger members, would be to keep things PG.

Alcohol has to be okay. Otherwise my namesake would have controversy surrounded by it. Also, there is a budweiser billboard sign on the stex alreasy so there. As for the playboy bunny, nothing is really offensive about it. The only contorversy would be what it symbolizes however as an avid reader of Playboy (yes I read the articles and many are quite interesting) I find no problem with the bunny itself. However, it might be quite toiuchy so you might ask a modmin what their opinion is before posting it.

 

Spiderman, I'm going to request one thing though. Several months ago someone posted a whole mess of movie posters, cd covers, game covers, etc. floodong the stex with these useless lots. I think most would be in agreement that this was distasteful. So please, make sure the signs are not tacky.

 

Anyways, on to other things. The controversy surrounding my leaving and subsequent return have been cleared up. I spoke to dirk about it and the air was cleared. Not much to say about it other than I still have a beef with some people but will keep it to myself. Nuff said.

 

Nofunk, I told you that I would find those textures sites. Well if you check on page 27 of this thread (I think its 27 but might be 26 or 28) I made a post with some links to sites with good textures. You might want to check them out. Speaking of textures, maybe you can help me out JB. I need a good texture for the RenCen. You asked how you could help and I need help finding a satisfactory texture.

 

One more thing, to the members of the BSP. Keep your eyes open, a small change is in store (I hope)

 

Oh, and it was pretty cool to be recognized by the community in the trixies. Let's gun to win next year!!!

Bud, I couldn't agree with you more about those signs, they were making me mad when I saw them, they were really a waste. I am in the process of working out somewhat of an agreement with Dev, but I'm waiting for permission from NDEX to use the billboard that I altered. I have made about 30 Billboards as of right now and a lot of them look awesome, and I plan on making a lot more, however, what, if any, gets released is totally up in the air.

Well its pretty late and I'm still up but for good reason. As you may have noticed we have been blessed by those who push the buttons around here with custom titles. I was contacted as the liason for this group about getting custom titles for our project yesterday and of course bit at the chance to do so. I know that wolverine was comtacted about this as well. So I hope I did not overstep my bounds by giving us titles and picking a color scheme. I hope everyone likes their title but if you don't please let me know. In addition, if you are involved in this project and I forgot you please let me know. This is a role call of sorts. To those who have just started posting in this thread, I strongly considered giving you titles but did not only because I did not want you to fell that we were making you be a member when you may not want to be. But if you would like to be a contributing member of the BSP and would like a custom title (there are only a few that fit this description) please state that fact. Thanks!!!

Man, this BATing is not so easy. First of all, thanks budweiserdude for linking me to those textures! And thanks everyone for the positive feedback.

So here's where I am on Burton Tower:





And for the record, that 100-ton carillon is in there! (Well some shapes to make it look like it's there, anyway.) Now I have three things I need to figure out: (1) texturing (I've got the textures, just don't know how to use them), (2) some minimal night-lighting (remember, it's just a monument), and (3) rendering/etc. I was going by the basic BAT tutorial that was on here, but since the site's changed over, I can't find it anymore. So I'm stuck.

Oh crap, and the clock face. Do I want to put the clock on it?

Anybody care to help a brotha out?

Nice work nofunk!  I can't really help you with the textures part since I'm not there yet on my projects.

 

Adding the clock is up to you.  You can use the text feature to make numbers and a rectangle should do for the hands.  Then copy and paste it on all four sides.  But as I said it's up to you.

 

I hit a slight technical problem with the website that I hope will get resolved over at the support forums of 3dfa.com.  For some reason, I have a feeling you all are going to go over there just so you can get a view of the new website.  Shame shame

 

And it's time to start getting Ford Field in motion...

spidey: Thanks! It's my first BAT but I started Burton Tower twice before this copy. So it's taken some work -- I've only worked maybe 5 hours on this attempt, but I spent about the same amount of time screwing up on the previous attempts.

Okay you guys, one more update from me. I've finished modeling everything, now I need to night-light, texture, and render it. I just need to figure out how . . .

I finished designing the clock a few minutes ago. I think it looks pretty damn good.
