A trailer park would be good, and to follow the BSP theme, you could also model the trailer park sign from 8mile for the lot.

Ok not many replies... Does the door look too small? I think I'll try to work on it again today, but suggestions are still needed.

Yes, I think the door is way to small.  Make it just about 0.3 meters shorter than the top of the window.

Hm, another project I think we should do is Barry Sanders' house.  That shouldn't take too long for someone to whip up.

Well I decided to try something in the BAT and so far...
UAW.jpg
The UAW building across from PCEP(the High Schools) in Canton, it obviously still needs a lot of work, but what do you guys think so far?
I'm having difficulty trying to find the right texture for the wall since it is not really a brick wall...

I just realized that I haven't posted anything in a week, so I guess I better chime in again!

No updates on any of the models because I finally have a region going that doesn't crash.  I'm not sure if it was a computer problem (using my new laptop) or if it was a lot issue (deleted many of them).  I will get back to some buildings soon.  Now I am going to have to start over on Cadillac Place if I choose to work on that project.  The other project I had in mind was the Kales/Kresge building, the Ford Building, or DPD HQ.  No, I haven abandoned 150 west jefferson, I just need to re-develop my skills and also take a simplier building to completion (Cadillac Place won't really allow me to do that).

What are people's votes?

Well I would like to see you BATting again period, you have some great talent with gmax. I'd personally like to see 150 WJ done, but if you need to re-develope your skills, find something easy and then work your way up16.gif

I have been previewing my model, and I couldn't seem to find a good white texture, everything seemed to be just plain grey, and then I realized, OH YEAH I CAN'T TEXTURE MY MODELS! So when I finish this model someone is gonna have to take it to texture and put nightlights on it.

Xspidey, I know you've heard this before, but don't double post!!!!!  Use the edit button.  If you can't figure this out, no wonder you can't texture your building18.gif  Seriously, though what seams to be the problem?  I know the tuturial isn't quite as intuitive as I would have hoped when it comes to night lighting and texturing, so what part has you stuck?

As for 150 west jeffereson, it is a great building and I have a lot of time in it, so it will get done.  There are some big things that are wrong that need to get fixed, and after talking to BD, my windows might not turn out right.  Who knows, I might have to start attempt number 5.  Even though it may look like it is close to being done, I assure you that the model is probably only 25% complete.  Then there is texturing, lighting and lotting, all of which I need to learn.  This is why I want to take on an easier building first to get the hang of everything.  Kind of start small and work your way up, even though my small is going to be 12-20 story building.

Sorry for my absence but I have my reasons. First and foremost, RLS is really kicking in as of late. Work has really picked up and not allowed me to bat hardly at all. There are a couple of other real life reasons I will not disclose here but lets just say the stories behind them are not pleasant, hence they will not be posted. Don't worry I'm fine but some unfortunate incidents to my sisters fiance and a few of my friends have taken up some time as well. To top it all off, I'm generally displeased with some of the attitudes across the boards as ST, enough so to not release anything else for the short term. A couple of e-mails I have received have also prompted this decision. If you wondering whats finished, the Big Boy and a Speedway Gas Station are completed. But given the reasons above I am not releasing them for a little while, not until I feel comfortable with the current situation. None of the members involved with the BSP are at fault, let me assure you of that. However, it seems that every other thread here disolves into a bashing contest as of late and too many have decided the boards are their personal soapbox. So I've decided to abstain for a bit and become more of a lurker than a contributer. It is what it is....

As for the RenCen, I'm going to begin more work on it this weekend. It has not progressed anywhere in a few weeks so I'm overdue to work on it. Also, I'll try to get those pictures over to you wolverine asap. Like I said, I've been busy...

I've been working late too --- on homework.  I pulled an all nighter on Monday night-Tuesday Morning, and then got five hours of sleep last night.  Now it's 1:15 a.m and I'm still wide awake.  I wonder when I'm going to crash.  I saw this coming though.  I was gone most of the weekend, and busy at the football game Saturday.  But good work so far spidey.  I also hope the Madden Building gets done as well Baldy

    Onto other matters....

There will be another Detroit Meet this Saturday if possible.  You can talk to Allan, and I think Baldy was informed about this over at urbanplanet.org.  It would be great to see everyone there.  I'm able to attend because there is no home football game! 1.gif

BTW, does anyone live close to the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area?  I don't have a car to get to Detroit.  Too hard to own one here in A2.  My residence Hall is on the corner of Zina Pitcher/Forrest Place and E. Ann

I wish I could make it to Detroit on Saturday, but I have a class on Saturday morning.  It would be nice to get together with everyone and discuss our projects, but unless we can do things on Sunday, I am out until next semester.  If we could do something on Sundays, I would have no problem picking up Wolverine, I would just shoot down 131 to 94 and over to Ann Arbor on the way to Detroit.  Maybee we can do this in the future.  Still nothing new on my project, I think I have found the problem with Comerica, it says the width is like 204 or something like that.  Does this mean that I will have to put the building into seperate parts and then combine them in the LE??? If anyone can help me on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your patience everyone, Jon

I'm finally back at Simtropolis!! :)

I had to create a new user account, since it didn't seem to want to let me login with my old one. 7.gif

Anyway, about the Detroit meet on Saturday...
We may get to go up to the roof of the Penobscot Building. It will cost you a $10 donation to Preservation Wayne to get in, but it's well worth it. We would meet downtown around 10:30 or 11 AM and go on the skyscraper tour, or just go up to the top of the Penobscot...we haven't quite ironed out the details yet.

Some things I want to see at the meet:
    - Penobscot Building
    - Statler Hotel
    - Park Avenue/GCP Area
    - Woodward Progress
    - YMCA Construction/Broadway Streetscape
    - Harmonie Park Area
    - Renovations occuring in Capitol Park
    - GAR Building

I'd go down there with you guys but I'm sick a little tired of Detroit this week. I've been down there for 3 of the past 4 days working in a hellhole off of Jefferson and Parkview (McClellan). It's fairly close to Belle Isle. Anyways I've been all over the downtown area getting parts for this job and I'm sick of battling the traffic and hoo-hah down there. If nothing else though I've passed the RenCen upwards of a dozen times so I've gotten some more looks at it. Anyways, hope you guys have a good time.

By the way Jon, I tried to put Comerica into the LE and came up with the same problem you did. Are you sure you scaled it properly?

Yeah, thanks!!! I hope so too. I just found out from my boss that I get to go down there again tomorrow as well. More to work on. Fun fun fun, you know it wouldn't be that bad if the roads were not such a disaster. It is a pain the --- to get around down there or even get there. My route to and from consists of taking Eureka to I-75 to Gratiot to McClallan. Doesn't sound too bad but in rush hour its the pits. On the way home I take Jefferson down to the 75 connector and go from there. If I could use 94 it would be so much easier but its a federal disaster during rush hour. Anyways, have fun down there guys. I'm goign to be heading over to my sisters this weekend. I'll let you on this...my sister's fiance cut off 3 fingers last week so I'm going to head over to see how everythings going this weekend. Gruesome I know, but life goes on and sitting over there and watching football with him I hope cheers him up!!!

Im sure the scale is right, the footprint is less than 64x64.  I guess I will try it again, I have no classes on Friday so I will give it a shot again.  Sorry to hear about your brotherinlaws fingers.....OUCH.  I have broken fingers before (football) and know how that feels, but I couldnt imagine the pain of loosing one finger let alone three.  My prayers go out to him.  I hope you all have fun in Detroit, and I have a request.... could you get me some pictures of the Wayne County Courthouse possibly, I am starting work on the Kent County one soon and I would like to see if I could do both.  I would appreciate it.  Thanks, Jon.

We'll, it's official, we will be able to go to the top of the Penobscot this Saturday!!!!!  This after a call was returned saying it wasn't going to be possible.  For those that don't know, the observation deck isn't open to the public, so the opportunities don't come up that often.

BD, sorry to hear about all the things going on in your lifes.  Best wishes.

Well, much has happened I see. As for the UAW it is really about 90% done, if you have ever seen it, all that's to it is the front wall and then two side doors. I'll do some more detailing, but no texturing.
I don't know if you remember but back in August I had SERIOUS problems with the BAT, I had like a page worth of posts trying to figure out why I couldn't see my textures in a rendering. The textures do not show up, just a dark grey color. I never figured out how to fix this, so unless someone knows how to, I won't be doing texturing.
Sorry to hear about the Fam BD, good luck with that. Detroit sounds like it'll be fun for you guys, planning on taking pictures?

    I hope this isn't double posting, if it is I am sorry. But I have good news guys here is the next update of the UAW local 845;
    UAWprogresss.png
Now I had window frames on the windows but they didnt look good, but how does the door look? I think I need to add some detail to make it obvious it's a door; probably a handle. I need to figure out if there is anything else I need to add besides a few minor details (two blue lines) and then add the roof. I am gonna download some roof junk, how do I put it into my scene?

Those lines you made for the doorway need to cleaned up some for lack of better terminology. Something about it detracts from the overall apearance, which in my opinion is very good thus far and fairly true to it in real life. However, how tall is that building and the doorway? It looks as if they may be out of proportion slightly.

You may call me a pain in your butt but I'm going to offer up these suggestions. First off you need to rework the framework for your door and the door itself. Modeling the door in gmax rather than slapping a UV modifier and then a texture on a rectangle is far superior in my opinion. I can show you how I model my doors and windows, which when you do it once is fairly simple after that, should you desire. Let me know...

Secondly, I would model my own roof junk for 2 reasons.
    1. The roof junk on the stex is high in the poly count and depending on how many you put on your building, can drag your speed way down. Trust me I tried it and the sizing of the units is also screwy with some.
    2. Once you model your own, you can import it into different models should you desire. Its a rather detailed explanation, albeit a simple process, just long winded to explain. Simply put, you use merge to accomplish this, which is what you would do if you wanted to import a model of something from the stex into your model. If you want a further explanation, let me know and I'll try to do my best.

I tend to model a slight variation of roof junk for nearly every model I make. You may consider that as well. Just hide everything, model whatever your heart desires, group it, then unhide all, then finally move whatever you just modeled to the appropriate location. Hope some of this info helps...

Well thank you for the suggestions, that is what I wanted. I said the same thing about the door, but I dont know how to clean it up. Well it is finished now so if I can send this to someone, maybe you Bud, to render and texture and do the lighting?
    And if you want to, you can touch up the areas that you mentioned in your post. Hopefully someone can take this model. Here is the picture;

Man, how big did you make that building? Are those the hvac units off the stex? If so thats why the proportion is off. Those rooftops need to be upsized to at the vvery least twice the size they are now if not tripled. Just check out the size of your doors in comparison to the rooftops. A fairly large descrepency there. Trust me rooftop are larger than doors. Other than that, it needs a few othere touch up. The frames need to be recessed slightly and check out the upper right corner of the building. The walls are not flush. Just trying to point you in the right direction.

EDIT---I'm done with ST for a while...good luck guys...I've had my fill of the bull here. When the kids who see fit to try to run this site from their warped point of view decide to stop dictating their points of view on every mother frigging thing, I may see fit to return but for the time being I'm done. Explecitive, explecitve, etc...............That doesn't mean I won't still be involved with this project should you guys see fit but I'm too pissed right now to give a ---- about some of the other hoo hah, thus my decision. I'm done here for a while....

Yeah the S.H.I.T. I'm seeing people speak about some of the details is getting me all worked up.  I'm not liking it.  This may be why our projects will be moved to a new website where people can download them there.  Much like Pegasus did.

BTW, for all historically impaired people, S.H.I.T. was a stamping label on manure crates for Ship High In Transport.   My post is clean.

The 2 main problems that I have is that there has been a ton of ridicule around here lately and everybody feels it is their position to jam their opinion down my throat. Sorry, but its a load of B.S. It's not fun to be around here at the moment...afterall its a game or hobby however you want to look at it and many feel its well within their right to make this site otherwise. It's not fun defending yourself all the time because you feel differently than someone else or do something differently. If I wanted to be in a constant debate or fight, I'd go back to college.

The off topic subjects are getting out of control and are way too many threads get off topics too easily. What's the point of posting something about SC4 anymore, it will just degrade into a spam fest at some point. Therefore, I'm finished here for now.
