All of these look very promising, especially The Elysian.

The only advice i can give you though, is to place some other bats from your favourite batters to compare textures and hights. This way, once in game, they won't stand up from the rest.

Other than that you'll have to wait for the expert's advice.

Hope to see more from you soon!

Feel free to call me Matt :)

@Emmotic: Thanks! I'm still not finished them yet, I must still texture better. I want them to be a good quality. :)

@Jasoncw: I made them that large so you wouldn't have to attempt to read pixelated writing. I'm going to scale them down :P

    Aaaaaalso... :D

Whoa - in technical terms, it's looking good. The red writing really looks like it doesn't quite belong to the rest, but was sprayed over it - which might be intentional.

As a whole, however, I think you may have gone overboard with the styling a bit. You see, SimCity is many things, but not flashy or radical in any way. It's a rather calm and peaceful game that lives from its subtle details. The UI windows are intended to convey some information in an interface that's easy to read and doesn't distract - neither from the content it shows nor from the rest of the game. Your UI mod clashes a bit with the overall look-and-feel of the game, I'm afraid, and those sharp, beveled corners don't really go together too well with the rounded content fields and buttons as well as the equally soft, calm and rounded font.

To be honest, I think UI mods are a bit overrated anyway, at least as long as they don't add any particular, hands-on advantage (which most of them don't).

However, it's your "baby" of course, so by all means don't let anyone discourage you, and do as you please. I just try to contribute my honest personal impression, hoping that you may find something helpful or useful in it. You've taken on a rather big and challenging task there - I wish you the best of luck with it. :) Any estimates as to how much is done and how much still left to do?

Thanks for the constructive criticism T Wrecks! :)

I personally think that it does still require a lot of work, but I have plenty of time; and there's no rush to finish anything in a rush. I think that the "dún" button needs to be changed and colours to be changed. The graffiti on top is meant to be like that ;)

Also, I've been working on trees :D

Rather than work on trees, maybe you should re-read me and Jason's comments on this building from the previous page. I really don't like to repeat perfectly good advice to the same person... for the same building. The "recreation" is still very loose and inaccurate, which is a shame since this building is so rich and interesting. The trees do look nice, but if the building isn't in tip top shape, no one is going to notice the flora.

Maybe the building was just used as a demonstrator in this case? Anyway, the trees are beautiful. They look really organic, and concerning the saturation level of the foliage, IMO you managed to find the sweet spot between "too dull" and "awfully tacky". :)

@SimHoTToDDy: I haven't worked on that building at all since I last posted about it. I used it for proportions to show the trees. Posting a tree with nothing but a blank background would be difficult to judge measurement and etc. yknow. :P

I'll start that building afresh soon when I come home from vacation.

    @T Wrecks: Thanks! :)

I'm going on vacation to Frankfurt for 8 days; so I'll post more pictures of developments with my BAT of Crawford Art Gallery (from floorplans ;) ) and others then! I'm sorry if my BATing skills are too poor for this; but don't forget that this is just a hobby for me, and that I am trying my best. It's not like I'm trying to do this as a joke.

Early test render with textures (not even finished modelling yet)

I'm going to see this building again on Saturday to take some measurements and some pictures. :P

Hey nice little model, I don't know the building in real life but the arcs look a bit low compared to the rest of the building, the whole ground floor looks as if it was partly underground. I guess seeing it in real life will give you the opportunity to double check your measurements and look at the fine details.

I think it is way to early to play with the textures haven say so the brick texture doesn't work too clean and too repetitive, I hope you are planing to completely change the glass as well for something more realistic and at this stage I don't think really need a plane, I am not sure if for this building you need it at all...

Someone please post some response; I feel like I'm talking to a frickin' wall. D:

FYI, to be able to model the walls on the far right I had to hop a very large one today and avoid some cameras. If only Google Streetview were more comprehensive... 4.gif41.gif

Brick needs to be more convincing, darker, less saturated, detiled. I'd work through Jason's method of creating bricks in photoshop, it really is the best way and will never tile.

The tiles on the roof are too large, tile and need desaturating.

It seems that you use procedural textures and don't really give a thought to how they look, this in turn gives it a cartoony look that doesn't blend in the game.

You have the modelling skills and have been told the texture issues many times, so take your time over this and you'll have a great BAT :)

Okay, new idea. Screw textures for the moment ^^ I'll just finish the model fully first and then worry about them. At the moment I use images from CG Textures; I'm going to stop using them directly.

I'll search for JasonCW's tutorial later on, it could be a very good help. I took lots of images of the building itself, and even a few of the brick and etc, but they tile badly. I'll try to photoshop them later too when I come home.

@Gutterclub: Very true, I guess that's what makes my models fall down somewhat. Thank you very much!

    Thank you all, guys! :)

Just some testing of foliage and fencing etc.

Yea, Paul is right, you should put something else there maybe a small tree or some bushes, but that is not a good idea what so ever to have a cut in have tree on a lot it not realistic at all. I know what your thinking the tree will make the LOD's stick out a lot farther than you want them to be and it will be hard to fit on the lot, and yes that is true, but there are some work around this like custom LOD's and modding the Desc files occupant size in the exemplar file when you use the Iives reader to mod it. If you were to have a full tree it will show up in that render angel, but not in another one it will be cut in half because of the LOD's. That something you should know. :D

Actually it's a mixture of stuff, in the original building there's a wall beside the tree (the opera house), and I'm not sure where to separate from the actual lot. I'm going to make the lot as an overhanging prop to facilitate the tree overhanging the lot, but it's just the other one I'm not too sure of. Should I make it a full tree?
