I lost the Crown Building. I send it few weeks ago to Aaron without paying attention to the fact that there was an issue with the file opening in Gmax. Aaron mailed me back to tell me the file got a failure and I checked it to save it under another name. The opening fails each time.... :( Sad story. Maybe can I release it on the Stex without nitelite? I m upset of that... :(

Have you checked the auto backup area?

A sad stiry you got there. I had the same problem a whie ago but luckily I made some backups so I could continue working. Are you sure that there is no way to get the building back.

I don't know If it is possible to retrieve a broken/corrupt file with another way than the autoback...

back and on my way to model again. As i lost all my old models because my computer crashed few months ago, I m using a new powerful one which will permit me (hopefully) to model better with way less bugs.

Well, I started the Saint Patrick Cathedral which is kind of hard. Here the first part (far to be finished) of the model.

Be kind please, this is just the beginning and I m no longer very used to model.

I reworked the front. And made twins towers higher. This is a test of size, do you think it is feeting with the real scale like this? I already applied the 125%...

Look nice, but to me the building looks like a texture box. :(

the problem is that is not. For windows I have no ideas except using picture of the thing that's true. But the relief is real for all other things. Maybe it was a too hard building for me i should do it just for my own use. :(

I will try to make the whole building and then realizing more accurate details. Sounds like a fail for me :( :( :(

Well, it looks good for a start Parisian but you chose a really difficult building to make. The Cathedral has variety of cornices and tracers. And the rose window is rather hard. To make it all look nice and with good depth you would probably need to model it all... but anyway, like I said, it's good start :)

"Is it not cruel to let our city die by degrees, stripped of all her proud monuments, until there will be nothing left of all her history and beauty to inspire our children? If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future? Americans care about their past, but for short term gain they ignore it and tear down everything that matters. Maybe… this is the time to take a stand, to reverse the tide, so that we won't all end up in a uniform world of steel and glass boxes." - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

I reworked the main gate, left and right sides gates, relief on 1st floor windows. I chose a night pic because it shows a better way where relief are. But the fact that details are very small give the impression of a simple texture box as Aaron said.

Parts I encircled are in a way to be rework deeply. I prefer showing you the front of the cathedral first to be able then (once validated by most of you) to realize the rest of the building.

I did it immediately after (while not merging camera rigs and LODs) Same error happened... That's a disaster :((( I don't think it's a problem with my computer because it is suppose to support very heavy programms. (for instance I get AutoCAD which works perfectly). I m really upset and fed up of Gmax.

oh Thank you very very much. Thank you. I didn't know it was possible throught student status. By my side, I have deleted the sort of smaller Roses just above the cathedral main gate. It was to heavy with lot of objects. Now I recovered the cathedral without these things. Take a look at this, I rescaled it smaller, and now working on the facade. This is the last bat i make through gmax for sure.

It is amazingly detailed model! It seems that if your name is Pierre, you are destined to become legend in modelling. So all Pierres out there, start modelling, mmkay?

Seriously, I can't wait to see your work in 3ds Max, which will make all the details you've worked on look better in renders!

Thanks a lot Vlasky. And yes I m really a Pierre ^^. I worked the main facade again. I wait to finish it before posting the final result and get your opinions. But all i can say is that it is hard and voluminous. I think i will make the facade as a landmark, and the rest as a prop (which means that i will do it first separately from the front).

I would like you to consider transferring what you have into 3ds max and than continue regularly. Because if you make them separately than you'll have a back of the building without the shadows that would have been casted on it if rendered together. Aaron ca help you out with getting a model from g-max into 3ds max, he's been doing it for some of his buildings.
