    I meant that if only the other simcity games would be available on steam, then that would be awesome. (sorry if that was vague)

    If you don't know about steam, it's a very popular game distribution platform, and sc4 on steam means increased attention to the game.

    (which means more players, and hopefully, more new modders for more new custom content 9.gif )

    true, but if you really don't do anything stupid and use common sense on steam, you'll have a 0.9% chance of having your account being hijacked (and even if it did happen, you can still get it back through customer support.)

    Although I do admit this thread is useless for those of us who have the game already 3.gif

    The one way they could make it even better is if they offered the Mac version as well. But that's just wishful thinking. 2.gif

     Wait......That means.....The site rules need updated! Well not updated....But clarified.

    5.
    Prohibited Actions
    . It is strictly and expressly prohibited to post or upload:
    • Anything relating to the pirating, or copying, of any software game title;
    • Anything referring to CD keys or no CD cracks;
    Any content malicious to computer hardware or software, such as viruses;
    Any content that violates another person's privacy;
    Any material that is the work of another individual but is being represented as original. Permission must be obtained from the original creator, and due credit must be given, before including any element of that creator's work in custom content upload.

    In the past....The word download was a big No-no. Now i guess just to doubly make sure you are clarifying if it is a Steam Download. 49.gif

    Awaiting signature arrival...

    Just opened up Steam for the first time in months to find this. It's a Top Seller too. Thought it was rather odd that they didn't mention moddability in the little blurb they put along with it, they're missing a massive selling point.

    Well the steam community is usually a community very interested in modding, so some of them will eventually turn up here I'm assuming. (It's pretty high up in the Top Seller chart because it just came out today - it'll probably go down after a few weeks, and then go back up when the infamous steam sales start coming around.)

    Can we even use B.A.T.S with the STEAM version? I do buy digital versions of games that I've owned and I'm extremely happy to see Simcity 4 Deluxe on GamersGate yesterday, however today I don't see it anymore and only the STEAM version is left. I mostly avoid buying games on Steam unless it's on those massive holiday discounts but even so as a last resort to get a game.

    Just to clarify, the steam version of the game can use mods no problem. This is the case with almost all games on steam that support mods normally. 4.gif

    How does it really work. I tried finding out on their website but cannot get an overview of how it works do you download the game and install it oldschool or is it like a self contained app that downloads ready to play? I would like to give it a go especially the Lucasarts games package with Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Digg, etc.

    It downloads ready to play (well pretty much anyway, some games migth need to update drivers, they'll do that on their own) - you're free to redownload and reinstall as much as you like as long as you're logged on to your account.

    It's not too hard, it's pretty easy to understand how everything works just by looking through menus 4.gif There are free games and demos on steam as well so if you feel a bit anxious you can download steam, get an account and play a free game to get the hang of how everything works.

    What you gotta do:

    1. Download the Steam program (mac and PC).

    2. Browse the store.

    3. Find and buy the game/s you want

    4. Follow on screen instructions on how to install

    5. Press LIBRARY to see your download/install progress

    6. Play it through your LIBRARY tab.

    And that goes for every game on steam ^^

    And I totaly re-bought SimCity4 on Steam just to support it ^^

    It's mostly cuz I don't have the Deluxe version on disc, and because I've lost my user manual = no CD key.

    And also just to support the game ^^

    I was quite pleased to see this. My optical drive crapped out ages ago and I've been dying to play SC4 again. Now I actually have the deluxe addition (I had originally bought the game when it first came out and then bought the expansion later) and can install it on any computer I want. This was so worth spending the $20 on.

    I'm not looking to hijack the thread but I thought it would be a great time to mention that if there's anyone looking for an conveniant buyable download for a SimCity 4 Deluxe version to take a look at Direct2Drive's website. The download and installation is a breeze, you don't need to install any third party programs, and you can re-download it at any time.

    I find it very handy because you don't need to worry about a box or have that darn cd taking up space in your dvd drive! 4.gif

    BTW, it's 19.99
