Hi everyone and thanks to Jesse Swiss, Ilikeseattle, TekindusT, jazyje and mayorsushi for your kind comments. In regard to me uploading the city, I probably will do at some point but I want to make sure it's as accurate as possible before that happens. I have recently changed quite a lot in New Jersey, including the creation of Liberty Park and Liberty Golf course.

@Tekindkus Thanks for pointing that out! I'll hopefully change it soon but I'm not quite sure of what buildings to use at the moment.

Looks great. However, there are some inaccuracies which surprise me since you said you used the Empire State Bldg., and Chrysler Bldg. as landmarks. They're on the wrong streets in your city. It could be a limitation of the map (is not to scale?).

    cxl_screenshot_newyork_11-1.jpg

In your city, the ESB is on 6th Ave. one full block west of its actual location at 34th St. and 5th Ave. 5th Ave. is the East boundary of Central Park. Similarly, your Chrysler is on 5th Ave., but IRL it is actually three avenues to the East at 42nd and Lexington.

Also, there doesn't seem to be that many streets between your Chrysler and Central Park. As I mentioned earlier, the Chrysler is at 42nd St., the South boundary of the park (Central Park South) is 59th St., 17 blocks to the North.

I don't know CXL, so I can only guess that the scale of the map is not 1:1 causing these inaccuracies. Otherwise, it's a nice NYC-like city.

"Whether it be the sweeping eagle in his flight, or the open apple-blossom, the toiling work-horse, the blithe swan, the branching oak, the winding stream at its base, the drifting clouds, over all the coursing sun, form ever follows function, and this is the law."

—Louis H. Sullivan, "The tall office building artistically considered." Lippincott's Magazine, March 1896.

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say thanks to Heblem, Jesse Swiss, diamonddog_74 and dogma555 for their comments.

@Diamonddog: Unfortunately the map is not 1:1 which does mean it is very difficult to get an entirely accurate road system. Also, the landmarks are part of the map and put there by Monte Cristo, so unfortunately this also creates inaccuracies as their placement was not 100% correct.

Diamonddog, keep in mind that CXL is not Google Earth --- there are obvious limitations associated with playing the game when it comes to accurate representations --- most notably, the game is heavily tilted towards European-style architecture; also, the number of buildings is limited.... Asterion's journal is as good as it gets + will probably benefit from CXL 2011 (trains, plains, more buildings, etc)... you want other type of candy -- take a look at GTA Liberty City??....

Maybe I should try that too, except my hometown is too small, or maybe I'll try Los Angeles. I really like the level of realism in you city. Can you show a picture of the statue of liberty?

I just realized that you already showed a few.

Hi, I'm new to Cities XL. Is there any way you can link your cities up into a region, similar to SC4?

Hi all and many thanks to all of your comments. I will be uploading some new screen shots soon so long as I can transfer the city to Cities XL 2011.

@Animaniacs: The roads look like that due to the Australian road textures mod by Skimbo available from here: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=403&threadid=115819&enterthread=y

The map is available in different unlocker mods. I recommend Globexco's one and this is also available from the above link.

@gndrew: I will hopefully be uploading my city soon when I can optimise it for Cities XL 2011.

This looks great, I didn't realize this could actually happen in Cities XL...What happens when you get to the edge of the map, is that it, or can you connect and make a region and more of New York City like in SC4? I'm really intrigued now and might actually get Cities XL, but I'll probably wait until 2012 version since I don't have much time to play now, I'll stick with my current SC4 city.

How big is that map.  Seems like the area you've covered would have to be on two or three SC4 tiles...so I assume that it is still the standard 10x10km?  I think Cities XL is on its way, like I'll said I'll probably pick up the 2012 XL...hopefully Monte Cristo remains committed and continue to make it look and act more realistic and big city areas or at least adjacent tiles like SC4.
