Roller coaster tycoon is a game where you can unlock new parks by clearing objectives on old ones. It is probably my most favorite theme park game of all time! (except thrillville) Each park has an objective to clear it like: certain number of guests at a given date, certain park value at a given date and so on. Its a very fun game whoever owns will love! 9.gif  And this is the my topic where you can talk about this awesome game! 4.gif

i remember when roller coaster tycoon came out... i couldnt get enough of it... rct2... kinda cool seeing the new rides... rct3 in 3d i still play... and i have platinum... the only thing i wish is i could take those coasters and put them in no limits coaster simulator... it's way easy to build rides in rct3

The first game had a certain charm to it. I never bothered with any of the others.

(There was definitely a topic about this before, but I can't seem to find it. Probably dropped off the page.)

Nice game! Used to spend hours just designing coasters with lots of loops which doesn't scare people off. RCT was a Chris Sawyer game, it was supposed to be the successor to Transport Tycoon Deluxe(TTD) but he decided to turn it into a theme park. Now TTD, THAT was a game that really sucked a lot of time out of my life. I will always remember it fondly, I'd always dreamed of the day when someone decides to marry TTD with SC, sadly I think that will forever remain a dream. Seeing the many mods around here, in particular the railyards and the RHW interchanges, reminds me a lot of the rail networks in TTD.

Here is one reason why I find those RHW interchanges familiar: http://www.transporttycoon.net/junctions2 (really good, checkout the underground roundabout: double_cross_underground_roundabout_junt

I believe a lot of those interchanges could be simulated with the RHW, TTD was also limited to 3 levels: tunnel, ground, overpass!

Now that I think about it, these two games are in exactly the same boat. They both have communities, though the TTD is a bit more mature: they have successfully made a clone of the game which they dubbed OpenTTD. Though of course EA still holds rights to SC4 so we're kind of screwed there. Both games are actively maintained and they keep releasing updates at: http://www.openttd.org/en/

Maybe the two communities could help each other out with ideas and maybe even cross over audiences. Maybe my dream of a love child between SC and TTD isn't dead yet... 9.gif

The only problem I had with roller coaster tycoon is in some parks you would constantly get messages like: guest 100 is lost and can't find the park exit or guest blah is blah blah can't blah the blah blah ARGH! I hate those messages they are SO ANNOYING! >15.gif

I am not playing RTC at the moment but if I must choose, this is really one of the best games ever designed. It was the first game I ever had (bought) on the pc and since then I didn't got bored. Even now after 7 years, I still play RTC 1 and (I am confused about the date when other version were released), but when I had RTC2, few months after release, I still play it and enjoy it like crazy. Yeah I use an trainer, but I need that for my projects. Actually this game is the only one wich ever worked out my idea perfectly.

The one I've enjoyed the most was RCT2, it is quite more challenging than RCT and I discovered with the Coaster Editor that designing a good and balanced roller coaster can be trickier than I thought. I specially enjoyed thematising the parks and making all the planning as I nowadays do with SC4.

Just to let you know, they appear so often because it's usually the same few guests complaining. Just drop them off at the park exit and the complaining should be assuaged, if for the time being. Building your park more as a series of loops really helps get rid of this problem.

I like RCT - I put it back on my computer a while ago and beat a few of the scenarios, but I felt like I spent most of my time building parks without much in the way of goals in both RCT1 and RCT2. I believe I eventually managed to get a coaster with 9 Excitement, which I guess was cool.

RCT3 was fun, I guess, but it didn't seem to have the same feel to it. I don't know. RCT 1 was the best, mostly because of the massive amount of scenarios in it (even if I never actually got to most of them...).

I'd like to play it at least once this summer - that and SimCity are on my to-do list.

New to the forums, first topic I saw was this one and I thought I'd quickly share one of my projects I spent a lot of time of a few years back.

Now I'm not much of a gamer at all - I've only just dusted off the cobwebs from my SC4 disks and I'm just trying to get back into the flow of things, doubt much will kick off really - like I said, I'm not much of a gamer...

Anyway before I really go on... I've attached my RCT images. As you can see I wasn't sticking to the game...

How I loved that game. I found over 100 screenshots on my old PC.

Here I think Ihave recreated the theme park experience fairly accurately:

Eh, might as well show some stuff from when was playing last year, I guess:

    SCR43.gif

    SCR29.gif

    SCR61.gif

    SCR51.gif

    SCR73.gif

    Notes on the pictures:

1: I think this may have been the largest and most exciting coaster I've made. I'm pretty sure it got to 9 Excitement...

2: Some suspended coaster I made in this post-apocalyptic themed park I made. High nausea rating.

3: Snow coaster I made in Arid Heights. It was *puts on shades* cool.

4: What I ended up with whilst playing that AA/CF scenario with the bridge (Barony Bridge? I can't recall). As you can see, it was pretty jam-packed.

5: A small mine coaster inspired in a way by that one in the Blackpool Pleasure Beach scenario.

Of these, three of these originated from a blank template of my own design, stuffed with quite literally more money than would be needed in the course of completely terraforming the parks. I never did FINISH those parks, sadly...

    I feel like RCT3 gets a bad rep or is maybe under appreciated. I enjoyed it just as much as the previous games and it's becoming somewhat of a classic in the same way I love going back and playing RCT1&2. I felt it had great advancements;

3D - which I feel still looks good today! It's fun riding the rides and zooming down to Peep level to see your park.

crazy variety with AI - i loved making my own groups and have them all high tolerance, with one or two that can't handle it, while they force them on the crazy rides XD

Expansions - I found them to be more unique. water parks are fun to make, the zoo's...they're not too shabby, but it came with a TOOOON of new rides and stalls.

themes - this was my fav addition, being able to have themed districts that are recognized by guests/attractions and seeing them flock to these areas. I loved creating themed worlds for VIP's.

scenario creator - wowzers. You can do so much. I love just giving myself wide open land and throwing dozens upon dozens of goals and challenges my way.

terrain - I loved terraforming; creating water falls and lakes, mountains, cliffs, rolling hills...it reminded me of Simcity4.

the downer was the cartoonyness and somewhat "theme Park" ish take with the themes. It didn't really bother me too much, but I can see why it turns others off. The AI also isn't too excited to fill your queues to the max, which is discouraging when you have over a thousand guests.

check out some of the work at RCT3.com, the community does some awesome stuff. Plus, Sony is making a RCT movie(Why????), so maybe a RCT4 could be in the works?

RCT2 is one of my favorite games. Just in the past year I became very talented at building custom coasters, especially dueling hyper coasters. Just it was annoying how if you made a two path wide walking route every single person would walk on just one side of the route so they would complain about how crowded it was. Also the mechanics had the intelligence of middle school drop-outs.

The Roller Coaster Tycoon games remain my second favourite series of PC games. Like SC4, they are about being creative and building and managing your own theme park. I may get back to playing it someday!

Oh RCT. Yes, one of my favorite games. But my biggest pet-peeve in RCT3 is that you cant build your coasters through tunnels. You can artificially create them, But i miss that because it gave you more to work with 4.gif

    Awaiting signature arrival...

I don't like RTC3 as much as the previous games, but since I have Vista...I'm forced too..... The 3d stuff from the game doesn't make up all of the flaws and the lack of charm that the previous installments had.

When speaking of great pre-SC4 games, Holiday Island comes to mind. Can't play that game on Vista as well but that was a lot of fun. It's a game where you make you own holiday park (hence the name). I played it to death. It has good visuals for that time (1996), fitting music, funny vids and references to real life buildings.

There is a website that I frequent called nedesigns.com. It's where all the serious RCT players show and release parks and tracks. It's very elitist, but the downloads are free and you don't have to register to get them. A good number of the talented players hate RCT3 and stick to the first two games. In many ways the RCT community is like the SC4 community, with different building styles and custom content.

P.S: Here is an image of a park on that website. It won their highest award, and, in my opinion, is the best RCT park ever. It took three or so years to build! Do not load with Internet Explorer. The file will not be displayed.

(I hope posting a link offsite is ok.)
