What frustrates you about sim city 4

@Gamzdude: I don't know how safe it is messing in the SimCity_1.dat file and removing the Wren Insurance building from it (don't try this at home!) but you can always disable the Chicago tileset (if I remember well, this building grows in this style) and play without Chicago-styled buildings.

If you want to keep building your cities with the Chicago style, maybe you should avoid zoning 2x2 commercial zones and force the zones to be the size you want, pushing the Ctrl key while zoning.

BTW, we won't be able to see the pic, as it is hosted in your computer; it should be hosted in an image-hosting website (Imageshack, Photobucket, etc.) in order we can see it.

There is a mod called "Go Away Wren" or something along those lines which will do just that. A much safer alternative to messing with the .dat files and much easier than not zoning 2x2.

Wouldn't ordinarily touch that with an extended barge pole, but if you must, be sure you have a backup.

i know there is thats just one thing that i hate because i was playing sc4 for a year before i learned about modding but before that i was mad cause some times i would have more civics than real buildings :read:

Sorry, that's rather incoherent. What is your problem?

I think what one meant was that one is frustrated that one's zones used to be filled with civic structures than RCI lots.

Maybe, but all civic structures are plopped, so how is that strange or frustrating? Perhaps a clarification of what one considers to be a civic structure?

Well, the default civic structures (rewards, power plants, schools, etc.) do take up a lot of space, so if you were to plop them all down at the centre of one zone, there won't be that much space left for RCI development. With reward buildings, you have the option of not plopping them, but when it comes to other stuff, like water pollution for example, there really isn't much choice except to place a huge Water Treatment plant right on top of the source, is there?

Most of the above problems solved by mods and the official patches. But the fire plane is still useless!! Too slow, too ineffective, this thing is just for decoration :rage:

You are not required to do anything. I sometimes have my water treatment plant across town from the farms or dirty industrials. Works anyway, but maybe not so soon. As for stuffing in things like schools and other civic things you can get with a hot key, I'd suggest not laying anything down until you can pay for it out of profit. After power, for me the next thing is fire protection.

Of course, my favorite power plant needs lots of water, so the two (BAT) lots tend to go together. Fusion systems (tokamak) need to get their Hydrogen from somewhere. If you look up my BATs, they are on the STEX.

terring: Agree that the fire landing strip is eye candy, but it is effective as a fire station since it also has fire trucks.

Nothing really frustrates me too much. The most bothersome thing though has to be that stupid environmental advisor. If there is even a tiny bit of pollution, she freaks. Thank god for dollyllama.

This is an anti-complaint. The newest beta for wine (1.3.20) has fixed whatever was going on that was causing an unprecedented number of CTDs. I am now back to the normal bunch of them. Sometimes, being on Linux requires great tolerance and persistence, but I can't stand Windows and I hate to pay for software, so ...

I am soooooo confused. I went through my storage unit and found this basic edition of Sim City 4. I've been having fun with it but it is limited. I hate the traffic indicator when my cities get too big, and since this is SC4 and not Deluxe or Rush Hour I can't do the one way streets to decrease traffic. I've tried avenues but I can't connect them properly with highways. Also I have tried downloading different things from this site and with only a few exceptions I get the Brown Boxes. Any advice for me ????

Yeah, either get Deluxe or Rush Hour (doesn't cost much, worth it) or play another game. As for the downloads, most have been developed for & tested with Rush Hour/Deluxe only so there's no guarantee they work with vanila SC4.

I was very annoyed by the constant pop-ups from my advisors, and I was getting headaches from my dumb-as-rocks commuting citizens. I got the NAM and started playing on Hard Mode, and now all I have to worry about are the CTDs and the occasional starting-the-process-but-not-actually-starting-the-program event. :P

The AI commuting is annoying. The citizens are too lazy to walk so they plug up the streets by driving and when you put Mass Transit, they won't even use it. Sometimes when I try to make commuting as short as possible when the sims are unemployed, they just simply abandon their buildings. And if it's one thing I absolutely hate in SC4, it's seeing abandoned buildings because they were either too stupid or too lazy to get to their jobs.

Do you have the Network Addon Mod?

^ my computer that had everything on it died before I could get it, but I still hate the fact the commuters are horrible drivers.

The NAM mostly fixes that.

I haven't read every other frustration on this thread (so i'll have already put down ones).

I get annoyed when I end up having to plop down 7 giant hospitals to serve my city. Or 8 police stations. Or 8 anythings. It's highly unrealistic to have that many in any real city.

Also, I once got a crash to desktop right after I finished my million or something population metropolis and was just about to save!:angry::angry::angry: I ended up turning the area into a slum for some reason.

Also, it's unavoidable but many mods cause big problem thingamajigs to appear.

That is what custom content is for. Just look for hospitals that can support a high number of people.

Also, it's unavoidable but many mods cause big problem thingamajigs to appear.

Perhaps these problems can be fixed or the mods just don't work together. Why don't you create a new thread to try and solve these problems.

One of my real biggest ones is if you want to create a region, having to go to a region and make changes to landscape then line everything up everywhere else just to create something, doing this over and over. It's crazy! Thus I have never created anything. They should have just let you chance landscape all on the region screen. Also you have to go to the city just to get rid of it and keep the land as is. Deleteing flattens everything. I wish they'd let you do this all on the region screen.

A minor one is the complaint of MySims that the school is not close enough. I never listen to that. One woman complained the resort blocked her view of the ocean. I tried to burn her house down and could not. It caught fire but went out. I would have used more widespread disaster but did not want to lose my glorious city. Sure, I could have just moved her or bulldozed her house, but the wrath of God is so much better! I sent quite a few lightning bolts her way. Another complaint. Trying to dispose her bad view in my wrath, I tried to bomb her with the jet from Area 5.1 but could but could not get any good aim, and when the helicopter guns were not good (because I could not get a good aim) I said to heck with it. She can complain about the resort all she wantss. It's staying. I do like the vehicles though. I just wish you could see the inside view like in the Super Ninendo Sim City 2K. That was cool.

You might want to try out SC4Terraformer. It is a program used to terraform the land without having to go into Simcity.

Yeah I hate that too. Even when the pollution is nowhere near your residents she starts crying about parks and trees its like come on really? And the guy complaining about streets becoming endangered. I'm saying don't only resident zones need streets?
