    Yes, this is a problem. I can't make head or tail of programming and diggin all these props.. I only can make a guesses about how to fix this and other problems. Now I think, that some of it cannot be fixed at all, because there is no abilities is game engine, to make this kind of lot fully functional.

    I will hold up development of this lots until I get the answer from Red Lotus. Depending on it, I will create another variations of it, or I will not..

    Please keep working on the textures then.  RedLotus or someone else can fix the paths and such - I'm willing give it a try if no one else has time.  Programming, I can do.  Textures as good as yours, I can't.

    WOW!!! You're great!! Very nice lookin' in-city pics :}

    But be carefull, you have to put some alternative road intersections with your railways - I'm not sure, that civic cars can drive through overpass lots..

    About menu:

    This is really unintuitive, but in case it's beta, I want to set all these properties later. Description, icons, menu place - all that work I do after creating a fully functional lot (as always).

    But in case of this lot would never be as final release, I will setup all these things and share it here :}

    Hah! Regards to your public safety advisor =:}
    And I really appreciate, that somebody really need this little things :}

    I can keep on working on it. But the concept of making prop model for this lot depends on possible ways of adding paths. If I create all variants of underpasses, based on one model conseption, and this conseption turns out to be wrong, I will need to remake all the prop models and lots.

    Once I get path configuring conseption, I will continue creating variations of it :}

    Well, I've got good news and I've got bad news, and then I've got some more good news.  First is the good news:  I was able to make the first new, true intersection since the release of Rush Hour.  The bad news is that the below-grade road disappears into the ground.  Here's a look at what I mean:
    /idealbb/files/RdURl.JPG

    Unfortuantely, this means that we cannot make underpasses in this way like the ones that Marast has been creating.  Underpasses will have to be made as lots with their limitations.

    I suppose you all want the last bit of good news.35.gif  Alright, with the process of creating new intersections discovered, it will be possible to create overpasses.24.gif  These new overpasses will be completely compatible with UDI and civic vehicles as well as having the correct path files so that automata behaves correctly.  It will take some time to get these intersections created, but I hope to have at least a few of the basics done in the next couple of weeks.  Of course, I will need some help with creating the models for all of these.  If you'd like to help, keep an eye out for a new post in the BAT forums sometime soon.

    Awwwwwww crud. No go at all with the underpasses? No hope of path files being made functional?

    Maxis, why art thou so cruel?!!!!!!!!

    But I'm glad there was some progress on the other aspect.

    Redlotus,

    But what about the appearent success that zilfondel had with this lot (per his post at noon today)? From the looks of the transportation map, everything is working just peachy.1.gif

    Well, I guess that means that underpasses are out, but I'll look forward to the overpasses Red.35.gif

    The fact is that I can take any 7x1 lot, throw any building on it, and mod it so that you would get the results that you see in zilfondel's post.  But how good would that look in a city where you're looking for realism?  There is a serious limitation with lots that prevents true intersections between two networks.

    Without knowing it, marrast made the choice that making the rail look like it's connected was more important than allowing emergency vehicles and UDI vehicles (excluding trains) to travel through.  He could have just as easily made it so that the situation was reversed, but that would have looked awful because the rail would dead end on either side of the lot.

    It was this limitation that pretty much forced me to stop making these types of lots a few months ago.  Since then, I have been spending a lot of time figuring out how to make new, real intersections.  Unfortunately, this method also has its own limitation, but I feel that it is something that would be very easy to circumvent and produces results that are much closer to reality.

    Any way, sorry for the long-winded response, but I hope that I made my reasons clear.

    Yes, Red, it's clear for me now.
    Thank you so much, for your help. For me it's sadly a bit, that this cool idea with underpasses didn't work.

    But ok! Overpasses (especially road-on-railway) is a good thing too! :}
    You need models? I can create it :}

    Why is this? Path files can't go underground?

    What if we added some tunnel properties to the tiles to the immediate left and right of the rail track? We wouldn't be able to see them go under the rail, but maybe on the slope.

    visual car paths don't really bother me... the pathfinding works and that makes them functional at least.

    thats not a abd idea, add the tunnel properties and make the rail overpass stretch out over the road a bit more so that you dont see the cars dissapear..just add general clutter on the bridge such as signals and spare track pieces and stuff

    OKay,

    I can see Red's point.... BUT... to me also the fact that cars can't pass through visually doesn't matter that much... so please continu making these lots. Off course overpasses are fine too, but these underpassess look so damned good, that I think it's is a shame if you gave up on these.

    Anyway, whatever your choice is, I think we all will appreciate your efforts 25.gif

    Yeah, I will continue creating these underpasses. No paths - no matter, I will try to find a way to make civic cars go through this lot. That's the mayor problem at this time.

    The civic vehicles cannot drive through them (not a problem if you place fire/poliec on either side of the underpass), and the car automata does not go through it.

    This DOES mean that the traffic pathing functions through it, just you see the little cars turn around before they go under the railroad.

    For me, it's a non-issue.  These lots are too cool.  I don't really watch cars that much anyways, I spend more time zooming in to see people walking around the commercial areas.

    Of course...overpasses would be sweet as well...especially if we could have an interesection raised above ground!  That might be too much, but they have lots of those up in Washington state, around Tacoma and Seattle.  They ususally use that fake-square-stone texture on the sides of the ramps, too.

    Ooooh...monorail above eleveated freeway?

    Yay!!! 24.gif  If I had a tail, it would be wagging.

    I don't mind the automata problems, I'd rather have the underpasses - they're so realistic it's worth it.  If you can get the civic vehicles to go through, that's great.  If not, I'll build stations on both sides, or use one of Red's upcoming (I hope!) overpasses every few blocks.

    Wow, I hadn't seen this thread!
    I think that I agree with some others on this thread, that there should be overpasses for the rail as well so that roads go over the railways. This must be possible as the roads can go over the ground level motorways. So I think that you should try to make a set of road overpasses to go over the railways. (I do hope this hasn't been done already as this is a bit of a waste of a post if it has).

    I have to cnagratulate you on a brilliant project, and I don't think it matters if the cars don't show up going throught the bridge.

    Wow!!!.. 6.gif

    The pic looks awesome. How do you get the canal, new train and the thing that looks like a bridge over the avenue? Is that with the pedestrian walkway (with subway)? Roadtop bus stop?

    Forgive me... I`ve left this site for so long (stupid patch problem !! 32.gif ) but now by looking at your pic, I`m eager to play simcity once again. Maybe I have to go through this site or download section to find it. Or could just anyone tell me where to get it?
