Well, I guess first I should say that the rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated. Who knew there were rumors that I died floating around the internet? 18.gif

At any rate, I haven't been post on here at all in, jeez... (checking, checking) ...a year! Good lord, how time flies. At first I was taking a little break, then I started on other projects I wanted to work on (like a novel, some websites, etc), got busy with a boyfriend, lost that, lost and gained 40 lbs, had some personal problems, then the next thing I know I'm a year older. Imagine my surprise when I logged back on and found out I won a Trixie award! Yay me!

At any rate, I've been thinking about picking this back up again, but I'm not sure. I've been 'out of the loop' for so long I'd have a hard time catching back up, and I'd have to re-teach myself so many things.

At any rate, I thought I'd pop back in and dispel the death myth. I am very much alive, such that it is, and just may come back from time to time...

Rubbing my eyes in disbelief!Insert  (... then seeing the date...43.gif)  Hey maybe I will start my first BAT project after all!!!  The BAT beginners & wannabes need you! 10.gif

Welcome back Phillipbo!!!44.gif

How come nothing is appearing under this menu? In the tutorial, the selected items are supposed to appear under the category. I selected them, but nothing appears. Can someone PLEASE help me?

I don't know what your problem is, but I see this in my gMax when I don't have a single item selected.  Emphasis on selected, and do not select anyother item except the primary one.

Thanks!!

I have one more question though. Is there any way to view the BAT before rendering it? Just to see it as if it were in-game size. Like a preview of it.

Thank you for the tutorial phillippbo.  I like to make models with Autocad.   I was hoping that I could do most of the work with this tool and then finish it with the B.A.T.  I did a test run and the model previewed well in the B.A.T. but it exported with only partial planes. ( ie: one half of a rectangle from the diagonal )  I had refitted the LODs and reset the lights as your tutorial suggested.

I can see alot of 3ds files available in the ST EXchange with messages indicating that they were being abandoned.  Is there an inherent incompatibility between 3d studio objects and the B.A.T. , even though both tools are products of Autodesk?  I will not pursue this approach, if that is the case.

Hi Phillippbo, a few words to thank you for your tutorials. My firsts BATs have been release on the STEX and it would have never been possible to learn BATing so fast without them.

I really appreciate.

Hi! I want to learn how to BAT, matter of fact, that is one of my goals for 2006 (Yupi!), but I have a big problem, and I would like to show it here. How can I make a screenshot of Gmax??

press print screen, its next to your F12 button on your keyboard. open a graphics program and paste it in there. resize it to 800x600, save and upload.

Thanks!! maetoch, it's so easy and fun! This is the problem: I have all the measurements correct, but mine is too small and I see that Phillipbo's has more squares than mine. And when I want to zoom in, it gets out of the screen got it?

at the bottom of the screen there is a magnifying glass, underneath it in your screen shot you have a symbol that looks kinda like this: >.

click and hold and you will see another magnifying glass. choose it and make a selection around the object you want to zoom in on, the object should then fill the viewport.

You can also right click on the word perspective and a panel will drop down.  Select user.  It then zooms the same as the other panels.  It's much more useful than perspective imho.  You can also rotate it, select wireframe view, etc.

At the bottom next to the word Animate your picture shows Grid=16. Scroll in with your wheel mouse until it states Grid=1 as in the other picture.

Hello Phillip,

May I firstly say your tutorial is superb. So far I have had great fun in following your lead and have managed to create my new little office complete with electrical box, HVAC and ducting etc. I'm not entirely sure I have done everything exactly right in relation to the UVW maps, meshes and edit splines but we'll soon find out when I texture and render.

That brings me on to the only bit so far where I seem to have got totally stuck, no doubt to my own stupidity! I have started working on the texturing tutorial and have managed to open the material editor and have picked the bmp from the file selector which has loaded up onto the materials editor ok. You then mentioned about ensuring the liitle button is selected that allows the texture to be displayed in the perspective. This is where I get stuck. When I load the bmp the little button becomes grayed out and I can't select it and I can't work out why not. I also noticed something strange in the material navigator when I was selecting the bmp, there was no option to select ok once I had chosen the relevant bmp. I instead had to double click to get it to load into the materials editor. Can you advise me on what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks muchly

Andy

I just want to add my appreciation to Phillippbo for his great tutorial. I've finished everything up to working in the Lot Editor; soon I'll be testing the tutorial building in-game. I had several problems along the way, but I was able to solve every one of them with the information you provided.

I played around some with 3dstudiomax years ago when I was thinking about modding for another game...if I'd had a document like yours to get started with I would never have given up. Thanks for taking the time to help save other people's time.

This is probably a dumb question, but how do you make your imported 3d models bigger? I always get mini's, then somehow i just clicked and moved mouse forward and the whole thing got bigger, but i dont know what i did to get it to do that.I 've been trying to do it ever since but it won't work. Anyone know??

Welcome to Simtropolis, FastFreddy421!

To scale objects, use the scale tool as shown in the pic. If You want to scale something made by several pieces put together, you might need to group them first to get the desired result.

Sorry to revive such an old thread but....

I recently decided to start learning how to BAT and was going through the tutorial.  Unfortunately, the links for the texture files used in it are broken.  It says they're working on fixing them, but I wondered if anyone happened to have those zip files and could post or send to me?

My email is dna120@woh.rr.com

Thanks in advance!
