Hi! I've been a member for a looong time, but I haven't posted anything in a couple of years.

I've gotten back into SC4 recently, and here's a major airport I've been working on in a city where I might makd a CJ.

Encinio International Airport.

Encinio%252520International%252520Airport-Jan.%25252022%25252C%2525201241312769954.png

Here is the terminal area and some of the surrounding area. There are two hotels serving passengers, one directly across from the domestic terminal, and one that also houses a train station.

Encinio%252520International%252520Airport-Feb.%25252013%25252C%2525201241312768854.png

Here's an overview of the domestic (USA) terminal.

Encinio%252520International%252520Airport-Feb.%25252013%25252C%2525201241312768759.png

Pier A is a Continental hub

Encinio%252520International%252520Airport-Feb.%25252013%25252C%2525201241312768778.png

and Pier B houses many other airlines.

Encinio%252520International%252520Airport-Feb.%25252013%25252C%2525201241312768792.png

The International Terminal hosts flights to nearly 100 countries!

Encinio%252520International%252520Airport-Feb.%25252013%25252C%2525201241312768812.png

And finally here is a region shot. I made the downtown before the airport, and I didn't realize that one of the runways lined right up with a bunch of skyscrapers. Whoops. >.<

It's Sellershausen International Airport (IATA: SEH, ICAO EGSE) in the outskirts of Dillenburg. It's a cheaper alternative to the larger three-runway Dillenburg-West Int. Airport, thus serving mainly low-budget airlines such as easyJet and Ryanair. Also, it's used by several private jet companies and it's the main hub for airmail from and to the country, Nassau.

The runway has recently been extended further north (south in the picture), which is the reason for the rather peculiar taxiway lay-out.

Zulu I share how you feel, I know there is a few automata MD-90s out there, i have the american one in the top left on the first picture, but some static props would be really nice, I'm very eager for the turbo props to be released because i would like more small airliners to make some small regional airports look a little more realistic.

and Heitomat, the airport firetrucks are from the "airport crash center" in the BSC exchange,

https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=328 there is a link to them,

You guys have fantastic airports for sure!!

I have a couple questions. Are custom airports functional, or are they purely for eye-candy? Also, what is the purpose of creating a custom airline? Just for kicks? Because I already use GIMP for skinning planes in a flight simulator, and I'd like to get into skinning aircraft in here. Is the process essentially the same?

Thanks

Washington Heights municipal airport,

a small (functional) airport in the college town of Washington Heights, I made it to replace the maxis small landing strip. In these photos it is in stage two of its growth, when it upgrades I will put pictures up of it in stage three growth :)

An overhead shot of the whole airport, note the college in the top left corner

6114901633_0da646a38a.jpg

The only FBO on the field, it also hosts the part time terminal for the charter airline that operates the C 208.

6114901781_870d2f1de1.jpg

The north side of the field. some brave glider pilots base there planes here despite the shorter field.

6114901813_95d68fc85d.jpg

The east side of the Washington Heights University is just walking distance away, since the airport lays in such a close proximity, they started a flight program in the late 80's.

That is really nice! Great lotting!

I also really liked your last airport, that crash scene was awesome! (Hopefully that doesn't make me sound bloodthirsty...). Great lot work, anyway.

slope2.png

This is the most unique airport I ever saw and one of the coolest ever made in Simcity 4 :golly:

The sloped runway can be very useful, especially in take off. Here are however 3 ideas to make your airport even better :)

1) Make the runway larger to support larger aircrafts, unless if we're talking about S.T.O.L. airplanes.

2) The transitions between the straight and the sloped parts of the runway is too steep, making the airplanes crash into the runway. Get a slope mod, any kind you wish. Build a traffic system, like an avenue, to make a smoother slope. Remove the avenue and build the runway. Now the runway will still be sloped, but more smooth this time ;)

3) Don't get discouraged by people who declare war in creativity and forgot that Simcity 4 is just a game ;)

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

thanks! ive always enjoyed your posts as well,

and im going to agree with terring, i really like the concept, its incredibly unique but if its possible i think you should try and make a smoother slope, but keep up the originality!

From my city Journal, Larna.

Hi everybody, I thank you all for your comments during the proces of building this airport, at last, it is finished, as you know the name of this airport is Emperador Carlos V, but in english it is called Charles V Airport (CVA), in the succesive we will call the airport by CVA. Here are the pictures, please forgive me for the resolution:

The next picture show us the airport in the area of Larna, and also show us the distribution of the terminals.

diapositiva1mh.jpg

Next pictures are of Terminal 1, this terminal is for private jets and small companies of exclusive aircrafts for executives.

diapositiva27i.jpg

Cargo Terminal

Cargo terminal is connected to the industrial areas of Larna through rail, it is a largeaea of logistics that moves tons of products. lots of warehouses move lots of materials and give jobs to many ones.

diapositiva28i.jpg

diapositiva29i.jpg

Hangars area

Hangars are large mainteinance shops that check and fix aircrafts. This buildings are property of the Airport Authority, but they are rented to companies of maintenance to provide the service to Airlines.

diapositiva30o.jpg

diapositiva31.jpg

diapositiva32.jpg

diapositiva33z.jpg

diapositiva34.jpg

Restaurant areas.

Cargo warehouses, terminals, offices and hangars provide jobs to thousands of people who need lot of options of fast food restaurants, CVA (Charles V Airport) has two main areas of fast food restaurants, one in the edge of cargo terminal, and the other at the edge of hangars area.

diapositiva35g.jpg

diapositiva36.jpg

diapositiva37a.jpg

Hotels Areas.

CVA has two areas for hotels, one in the east and one in the west.

East hotels area

diapositiva38f.jpg

diapositiva47.jpg

West hotels area

diapositiva39e.jpg

Parking Lots.

CVA needs lots of parking places, many employees arrive in their cars and many passengers travel leaving their cars in the parking buildings. Despite the fact that there are many small parking lots spread in the CVA terminals, CVA has its major parking complex next to Main Station. This complex has 15,000 parking places, and is well comunicated to highways avoiding endless lines of cars in the doors of terminals.

Drivers can move from parkings to their terminal by using tram transport. Elevated Rails take passengers from each parking lot and leave them in Main Station where they can switch to the tram that will take them to their terminal.

diapositiva40l.jpg

diapositiva48.jpg

Main Station.

CVA has 10 terminals, many hangar shops, many cargo warehouses, and this fact makes difficult to have a single tram route to move all commuting passengers around all points of interest, that is why we needed a Main Station which allows commuters to arrive faster to the terminal they want to go without taking a long trip through the intermediate terminals.

Main Station also connects CVA Tram with the web of Trains of Larna. Main Station has 8 track for tram, and 6 tracks for passenger trains.

diapositiva41b.jpg

diapositiva42m.jpg

diapositiva49u.jpg

Central Offices

CVA needs many bureau employees who are in charge of controlling CVA operations, from controlling hangars, Cargo, Passengers, Seccurity, Trams, Trains, Restaurants, Hotels, etc. Thus, administrative buildings are placed in the center of the Airport to be closer to any point of it. .

diapositiva43.jpg

Runways

CVA has 8 runways, all of them longer than 2.5 km.

diapositiva46u.jpg

Last Comment

CVA is the largest Airport of Larna, it took lots of time to be developed and fixed to be functional and simple to understand despite its gigantic size. Hope you liked this final presentation. Thank you for leaving your comments. ( and stars XD )

Yes I know, it is just that I put all the planes that I had downloaded, perhaps in some days more I will remove some of them and put blank spaces. Thank you for your observation

I'm sorry, but that is awful. While your planning and dedication is outstanding, the airport is obscenely too large. You should get rid of half of the gates and terminals, make it way less full, and use realistic amounts of the correct airplanes for its location.

For example, you have 12 Concordes, where there were only 14 ever made, and one of them crashed in 2000. The number of A380's and 747's in ridiculous. For you to need that many you would need the population of Asia living in one city.

I also noticed that you have 737's from Southwest (an American airline), Virgin Australia (an Australian airline), and JAL (a Japanese airline). You should pick one location and only use planes and airlines that would fly there.

Lastly, I noticed you used at least 3 of every 747 livery. Several of those airlines don't operate 747's anymore, at least 1 is defunct, and many of them are old 747 models. You should only use the newer/current 747 models,

TL;DR- It is highly unrealistic and you should research real airports and base your's off of one.

I feel bad for ranting, but it is all to help you make better airports. Don't take it too personally.

I think it is absurd to think that Simcity is only for realistic projects, somehow that means that imagination should not go further reality in a GAME, Yes you read it right a GAME. Don't take it personally but I think you can allow your self to do things beyond reality. After all THIS IS A GAME.

Agreed, there are Sci-Fi Cjs out there with HUGE airports and no-one criticizes them. After all, this is just a game, you should not be limited to realism only.

A lot of dedication has been put to these airports. 4.gif

Please take note that SimCity 4 is a game of Creativity, so don't criticize the airport if it is too big or too small, too full or too empty, too flat or too rough. 28.gif

After all, realism starts with creativity 49.gif
