Hey Guys,

I have been following this discussion for sometime and have never posted an airport. Here is my first real attempt- to at an airport. It only has one runway running east to west. On one side of the airport is a general aviation area for private aircraft and the fueling farm. One the other side is the main terminal. A terminal breakdown is listed below!

All Gate Numbers are Left to Right...BTW!!!

Terminal A:

A1: Delta - To/From Atlanta

A2: Delta - To/From Orlando

Terminal B:

Check-in Desks, Security, Food Court, Admin Offices, Baggage Claim

B1 - B2: Southwest - To/From Midway

B3: Southwest - To/From St. Louis

B4: Southwest - To/From Phoenix

Terminal C: (International Terminal)

US Customs Office

C1: United - To/From Chicago O'Hara

C2: Frontier - To/From Denver

C3: Air Canada - To/From Toronto & Montreal

C4: US Airways - To/From Charlotte & Pittsburgh

I meant to take more pictures, but after I took this one, SimCity crashed and upon restarting the city my map was corrupted and wouldn't open again. So this is the only picture I have of that entire city... :(

With all that SCAG-stuff release madness, I couldn't resist to go back to airport building and begin taking advantadge of all these cool things they've put in our hands...

From now on, I'll show you an overhaul of an airport I had already shown here [link], but with a more realistic approach and showing all the new goodies. The really big boys will come when the RMIP-3 is released (I hope this happens soon...)

Long time lurker - first time poster. Here's the first of 3 airports build with plenty if inspiration from this thread.

This island airport was initially supposed include a large seaport but the airport became too big.

Southwest Airport supports the the Southwest region. 4 runways provide ample room for international, domestic, cargo and general aviation services.

prongap1.jpg

Central to the airport is the large terminal which provides the Sims not only excellent transportation but a get place to relax in-between flights with bowls, putt-putt and even swimming. Some Sims come not for flights but to enjoy the services that the airport offers.

prongap4.jpg

The general aviation section has it's own short runway as well as plenty of parking space and hanger space. The old terminal now provides a private and discrete place for more wealthy Sims to embark on whatever journey they wish.

prongap2.jpg

The northern section of Southwest airport provides maintenance, hanger and cargo services.

My final airport (and by final i mean until the next one which won't be for a while because it takes forever to build these) is something of a concept piece and is still a WIP. Realising that my airports are getting bigger and bigger and it's getting harder to build one within the boundaries of a city I present - The multi city airport!

big1h.jpg

The airport is build around a city center with large aircraft terminals to the south and lighter aircraft to the north. There's 6 runways - 2 of which extend into other cities - and the airport is ringed by 2 main taxiways. All-in-all theres is approximately 220 aircraft gates - that's not including the cargo area.

big2x.jpg

The cargo center - which happens to be in the same city as my seaport - provides 47 spaces for large aircraft and a dozen or so for smaller planes to load and unload their cargo.

big3l.jpg

A light aviation section is still to be started south of the airport and will have another runway and probably some maintenance facilities.

The hardest part of this project - besides the endless hours and getting the city to make a profit - was matching up all the taxiways, runways, landing lights, fuel pipelines and fences. That and the crashes which wipes out so much work. The next step is to actually split the airport terminal between cities so I can have both a larger airport and more city in a single city. I hope you've enjoyed my airports and I hope to bring you more in the future. Thanks.

Did I just read that there were 220 gates?! That is huge! Very creative layout of the terminals and the city center that is in the center of the airport. I like it

Here is the airports hotel tower, guest services and administration and on the right is the heliport and a storage complex.

Please tell me if I made the runway too short.

Yeah, all awesome airports! Frdm920 and Teamyoyo, your big airports are fantastic! I especially liked the last cargo centre, I get very excited when I see some of my planes in peoples' pictures :D

And Danielcote, your small airport is awesome! I'm not sure if your runway is long enough, by my rough calculation that would be 640 metres, or 2,100 feet, which is only enough for the smallest passenger planes. But this is SC4, we don't need to be too realistic! Very original and creative, although it is a little bit empty-looking.

so far good, nice realistic layout of runways, taxiways aswell as apron an terminals. The latter tho are too small/few to give sense to the 2 runways tho. I see 9-ish, one runway is by far enough to accomodate those (for you consideration: EDDF (Frankfurt, Germany) has 3 Runways and during peak hours a total of 80 Slots per Hour, served at 103 gates incl. stands)

looking forward to the expansion!

Well I decided to get back into my other airports because Im pretty much done with the one that was in the competition.

So I went to an old one and totally revamped it. I'm not done but here are a few teasers of what I have been doing.

KWPI ( Windy Point International ) is a small airport in one of my oceanic regions. it serves a island/city of 500,000 that is primarily mountainous so finding flat space for a airport was hard, most of the airport is built on claimed land from the sea. it hosts 9 gates, (5 jetbridge and 4 airstair) plus a small cargo facility and a small GA area. It has only one precision approach ( RWY 17) and has a unique feature at the north side of the airport where planes must back taxi RWY 17 to get to a turning circle/hold short lines for RWY 17. Please let me know what you all think!

That's some awesome airport work you've shown here. I really like the layout and the especially those brown-ish terminal buildings. They add some variety

maxsimcity

I really like the location and the details. I don't like how the turning area at the threshold of Rwy17 is (not) connected, but that's mainly a matter of missing parts to do so.

Also the runway is too short for the planes shown, at least unless you apply harsh limits to T/O and LDG weights. If i counted correct, it's 102 tiles long, a 757-200 at it's maximum takeoff weight would need 182 tiles and a 737-200 127 tiles (137 tiles for "the largest plane to come into KWPI" ), exclusive safety margins.

But still a very very scenic airport I must say. One of the few shown here where the surrounding landscape is also worth mentioning and not just the airport itself. (well, except the city that is, this really needs work ;) )

Brandon6730pilot

wow. Very well done recreation. You got most of the details pretty much right with the possibilities given.

GMT, thanks for your feedback, so i agree, i dont like how there is that tiny grass line separating the rwy from the turning circle but there is no alternative piece unfortunately, as for the plane issue, i knew when i was building it the runway would have been too short for a 757 but i wanted larger planes for the cargo area besides the 206's and that was the smallest MMP aircraft, I thought it would have been tight but doable for the a 321 but i was unsure, just curious about how many feet long is one square tile in the game? i kinda always just played it by eye. anyways thanks again for your feedback :)
