Hiya all, I'm currently attempting my first automata mod.. as usual with me, its an obscure one - a replacement for the garbage truck.. with a Wall-E 3.gif After many hours of pulling my hair out, its finally working, so I'm just after a few opinions on it (image attached). What do you think about the size (im thinking maybe scale it down a tiny bit), the textures, and the general shape? Any and all opinions greatly received 4.gif

Sorry I couldn't reply yesterday, I fell from my chair laughing. 17.gif What an idea!

As for the size, in terms of "realism" (ha-ha!) it should probably be smaller, but then all those details will get lost, so I guess you can leave it this way.

Now we finally have the ultra-realistic companion to PEG's ultra-realistic garbage chute. 3.gif

lol cheers both 4.gif Hes been refined considerably.. I've retextured him to be a little lighter and fixed a couple of bugs in the model, and made him a little smaller.. I'm much happier with it now 4.gif I think all that remains is a nice custom sound effect for when he empties his trash 4.gif Latest pic attached 4.gif

I love it. Now the spaceship that was recently put up on the STEX has a buddy. 4.gif Nice job, the size looks good and you can still see a fair amount of detail.

Working on something a bit more down-to-earth now, something I've wanted to build for a while as its my girlfriends favourite place, the lighthouse on Flat Holm island in the Bristol Channel, UK: flatholmwip.jpg It is solar powered too, which I found interesting! I'll update when more significant progress has been made 4.gif

Wow, talk about an interesting choice! Now we have a building to guide your Titanic, hehehe...

I know I'm very early, but would you perhaps consider a version without the solar panels, too?

well, considering the model hasnt got that far yet I will certainly consider it, the biggest problem I have is the lack of a high resolution image of the roof, and I was relying on the solar panels to provide me with the diversity that that particular piece of roof will need, but I will have to move from the realism to something that is more catered to the ingame view in either case, so yes, it is not a problem for me to provide a version with and without the solar/energy output properties 4.gif

The model is almost complete, just a couple of changes needed in the doorway widths and a few more textural modifications. Its been scaled to the game now so its a little smaller than the previous screenshots.. my main reason for posting this update is the roof texture.. do you think it fits the model well? Or should it be made greyer? Any other comments also greatly received! flatholmwip3.jpg

Since there seem to be no complaints about the roof (yay!), I've gone on to the lotting and exemplar editing, and will publish the project later this afternoon. The download will contain 2 editions, one with solar panels that requires no external power source, and one without the panels (that does require external power). The first one is pictured below, I hope you like it! 4.gif

Great work, although the Maxis parking lots make it look kinda vanilla...

I suggest you use other textures for parking, like PEG's Scenic Drive Kit 2.

I love the light house but I have to agree with ComputerGuy890100 about the parking textures. Keep up the good work.29.gif

    Nice lighthouse Hexy!

I agree with the comments about the parking LOT (with the white strips). They, as well as those flowering bushes, make LOTs look "vanillary" to me. There's another default maxis set that looks a lot more natural to me, without the bright edges:

    mDmeR.jpg

but the recommended PEG set will probably look better, just depends how much you want to avoid dependencies.

You could also pick a lawn a shade less green imo.

Good work, I look forward to using it.

that is one Beautiful lighthouse! one for me to use in my city!

and i also recommend using the PEG set. it is great for long driveways and roads to lighthouses, maybe roads into the forests.

Thank you all 4.gif I figured the lot wouldnt be to everyones taste, but my girlfriend loved it (I built it for her above all else).

Anyway, onwards... next in line is one of my old haunts in the city centre of Cardiff, Dempseys Irish Bar.  The real thing only has 2 street-facing sides, so I will probably improvise the other two, maybe add a beer garden or something at the rear.

Pics of the pub and a very early wip here:

Thank you mntoes & Spike345 4.gif I'm hoping it will be diverse enough to sit in city centres and perhaps smaller towns aswell 4.gif

I havent had as much time to work on it this week, but its coming along, perhaps 60% of the model is done, currently looking something like this:

Thank you SimHoTToDDy and mightygoose, its great to know somebody who actually knows the pub 9.gif

The model has come along quite well, the flags are missing from the front at the moment, I'm not sure how to tackle them just yet (but they will be added).

    Here is how its looking:

    dempseyswip3.jpg

With any luck, I'll have time to begin texturing it soon 4.gif

    Hello all 4.gif

Texturing and some final tweaking of the model has commenced 9.gif Please let me know what you think of it so far, particularly the current lighting:

    dempseyswip4.jpg

I still need to light the windows and build the rear smoking area, but fingers crossed I'll have it ready for release by the end of next week 4.gif

Awesome work! Question, how is the lotting going to work? Is this building Wall to Wall? I certainly hope so!

The scale seems off to me. vIt looks over-sized.

I agree, the lights are burning the textures to white, you should still be able to see them. On top of that a yellower light would also look less harsh. To me it looks like the raised edges of the roof are maybe a fraction wide.... I'm not sure.

Also are you going to add the flags and/or flyers in the window. I think they would help a lot in giving the place a lively pub feel. But I think it's a great looking building.

Hello all, and thank you for your valued feedback!

Spike345: I'm hoping to get it to fit on 1 tile, currently its a tiny bit wide.

madhatter106/Jasoncw: Its not to scale yet - I like to model above scale and shrink it to fit the game once I'm happy with it. Its a nasty habit!

thingfishs/Jasoncw: Your comments on the lighting have been extremely valuable, I've lowered the intensity and added a yellowy tinge to them, its looking a lot better. Thank you for pointing out the roof edges too, they are a little wide and will be thinned out.

Once its been tweaked further, I will post a new pic 4.gif

    Cheers again,

    HeXy

    Hello again 4.gif

The models been game-scaled and tweaked with your comments taken on board, flags added, and the smoking area/beer garden added to the rear. Zoom 5 renders look like this:

    dempseyswip5.jpg

It fits on a 1x2 lot quite nicely. Any further suggestions for it would be most appriciated 4.gif
