Hello everyone, I recently mentioned an Los Angeles project and have started it. I'm using images from Google Earth and though it may be a little out of date, it shall do.

The major mods that make this project even slightly possible are:

<strong>NAM

RHW</strong>

Even with these great mods though somethings can't be remade 100% correctly but I will do my best to make it as close as possible. Please bare with me as all my pictures will be in paused mode. I will show pictures with and without labels on most so that you may tell what streets and judge for yourself how close I captured it.

Phase One:

101 Santa Ana & 10 San Berandino Freeway Juction - Ending at  Los Angeles St.

<img border="2" alt="" src="https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/UltraPerfectCell/Los%20Angeles%20Project/1.jpg" />

<img border="2" alt="" width="648" height="256" src="https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/UltraPerfectCell/Los%20Angeles%20Project/2.jpg" />

I was unable to make some parts of the 101 elevated and even if I was able to, the Juction between the 101 & 10 would not have worked so I decided to keep it on the ground and just have the two streets/avenues that run under it go over it. But the river and rail lines will be able to go under if things go right. Also you'll notice Cesar Chavez avenue is missing and this is bcause of the the limitation of the NAm-RHW puzzle peices. They can't seem to go over diagonal RHW sections just yet so I'll have to decide what I will do about that (suggestions?) Also I think the south side of the freeway should be 4 lanes and not 5 but it was easier for me to do it that way.

<img border="2" alt="" src="https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/UltraPerfectCell/Los%20Angeles%20Project/5.jpg" />

Mission Road normaly would go under the 101 but I had to make it go over. Also the RHW ramp you see running next to the junction would too be on the ground and connected to the juction itself but couldn't do either so I came up with this solution.

<img border="2" alt="" src="https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/UltraPerfectCell/Los%20Angeles%20Project/7.jpg" />

Here is a better look at Mission Road. And some of the off ramps/on ramps in the area. Those two elevated RHW lines you see to the left are express lanes, one leading directly to Union Station and the other to Alameda St. This gave me a slight headache because the one on the right is on coming traffic and the one on the left is incoming. It's the otherway around of regular American roads and gave me a headache as I kept switching them by mistake. <img alt="" src="https://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/22.gif" />

<img border="2" alt="" src="https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/UltraPerfectCell/Los%20Angeles%20Project/8.jpg" />

Exit to Vigens St which leads directly to Gateway Plaza at Union Station and Ramirez st. I think there is a Denny's too. <img alt="" src="https://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/3.gif" />

<img border="2" alt="" src="https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/UltraPerfectCell/Los%20Angeles%20Project/9.jpg" />

Exit Comerical Ave. Notice that one way street? It's actually a light speed rail that recently opened but LSR can't turn like that elevated (or can it?) so I just did a one way road but who cares? It's not open anyway. <img alt="" src="https://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/2.gif" />

<img border="2" alt="" src="https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/UltraPerfectCell/Los%20Angeles%20Project/10.jpg" />

The 101 Starts to sink at Alameda St.

<img border="2" alt="" src="https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/UltraPerfectCell/Los%20Angeles%20Project/11.jpg" />

This one was a headache! Los Angeles st (closes to you) and Alameda st. (above). Los Angeles st. ends and meets Alameda st. at Union Station. Making the Los Angeles st exit and the joining Almeda street exit was hard took about 30 minutes alone for tech. issues. The exit goes under Arcdia St. (to the far right) and meets the 101.

<img border="2" alt="" src="https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/UltraPerfectCell/Los%20Angeles%20Project/12.jpg" />

Main St. (Top) Los Angeles st (below) Aliso st (one way). This off ramp goes under Aliso st and up to Los Angeles st, tough the on-ramp should have two right turning lanes, again limtations. <img alt="" src="https://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/45.gif" />

<img border="2" alt="" src="https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r101/UltraPerfectCell/Los%20Angeles%20Project/4.jpg" />

Pleasant Ave, right before the 101 & 10 Juction. Leads to some small homes and Cesar Chavez Avenue. Also top left corner is the Mission avenue on-ramp making it three lanes.

If you could tell me how well you thing I captured the network of Los Angeles thus far:

Scale  1 <img alt="" src="https://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/28.gif" /> - 10 <img alt="" src="https://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/9.gif" />

1 not close at all or 10 right on the money

That's it for phase one overall way about 5 hours of work. Hope you all like it!

An ambitious project - it looks like you are off to a good start. I am eager to see it develop and how you interpret LA.

Good luck with this! Quite a project! I can already see Union Station and the LA River fitting in there!

Oh, wow, this looks really promising! I can imagine how hard this was and that it took you so long. Good work, though, with all the game limitations. If you need help concerning the street-layout, which is neither 45

Good start! I'm curious to see how you will get solutions to recreate the complex freeway system of L.A.

I wish you all the best with your new CJ!

Hehe, I didn't know that L.A. had such a complex road system! I guess the cities here are nothing compared to those in America! Can't wait to see more!

That's pretty good for SC4. I've always loved the tangle of road in LA.

    Hello all thank you so much for the replys and the motivation I needed to continue this! I don't have enough time to reply to you all tonight and oplogize for that. Just wanted to share a small amount of work I managed to get done today and also enlighten some to some new problems I'm facing,

    Phase 2 Hill St to 5th street 6th St. & 1st Street to 101

    15.jpg

    I know looks boring and yes, there are that many avenues. Some though are three lanes and one is strickly a one way (oh well). Will look better when I get to buildings (a long way from now). All of them go about a slight angle but that's impossible and I needed them to line up with the freeway so this was the best way. I stopped at 6th street. Any guess where City Hall goes? 3.gif

    16.jpg

    17.jpg

    Here is something a little more interesting.  A Big industrial area (I'm sure no one pays attention to) and a small subdivsion of homes on Mission & 1st. I layed the rail lines to mark the LA River borders. And crossed 1st over it. I know it's sometimes called the "dry river" but who knew?

    18.jpg

    Here was a problem. Temple runs past Alameda into the Central (the industrial area). But I apprently got Temple so close to Commerical street and well I had to cut away Jackson St. I think I may move it over some and make room for Jackson though it is a minor street I am trying to get this as close as possible. I guess I'll just have to see. For those who didn't read it in the first update I know that is not a one way road going over Comerical & the 101 to Union station I just used it for placement purposes only, that and it's not open (by my data)

    20.jpg

    Mission & 1st a small sub divsion of homes right next to the 101. How do they sleep? 23.gif I was not able to draw all the small streets and some 'feel' like their too close together but I think it's darn close!

    21.jpg

    1st Exit at the 101. The 101 should go over but can't make a bridge with 3 laned RHW so I did this. There is no on ramp leading from 1st to the 101 (south I think?) insted a small street (Spencer) with a large park.

    That completes this small update, If I get time I'll work more on it Sunday and show the results and reply to everyone. Also New Haven will get it's update then as well.

    Thanks again everyone hope you like it and goodnight/morning! I'm off to bed...

    LA (Times) Project Replies:

    lucky7: Thank you for returning for Phase 2 and you were of help to me and may see the advice you gave me used more in the future.

    ComputerGuy890100: Ah there is a 4.0 now? Good greif, I may have to look into it.

    Octoberfest: Yes it is going to be a hard one to do. And ha ha I think I may just get the middle turning lane mod insted lol

    TekindusT: If I was able to take pictures of Google Earth I could show everyone how close it is but for now you'll have to trust I'm doing my best and thank you!

    Schulmanator: Thank you! I'm going to work more on it latter today. Buildings wont be coming for a long time, or at least until I finish gridding all of the downtown area.

    830point35: I will try, I will try.

    kj3400: Thank you!

    DCMetro34: Indeed it does but I'm going to try my best to get them all!

    Benedict: Yes it was perfect for the intersection! Who knows it might have been standard if they made more expansion packs.

    De Ja Vu: Oh yes it does and it's giving me and Simcity4 a headache.

    cmdp123789: It wil be huge, and as close to the real thing as I can manage.

    Yes I was looking at some of the interchages I will have to do and well the 101 and 110 and 5 shouldn't be that bad so that will be the next one I'll work on.

    Muck308: Thank you and if you can start seeing that stuff already than I'm doing my job right!

    I wanted to reply to everyone who has been kind enough to post before I log off. I'm going to go work some more on my porject and have two updates for everyone. One for New Haven and Phase 3 for this one. See you then!

    You are welcome. I am really eager to see how this will turn out.. you have given yourself quite a challenge by choosing LA, roadwise spoken. But trust me: NYC isn't any better (nah, only a small part is a grid  16.gif ).

    In my opinion, the amount of time you put only in the freeway/ road- system is worth to be appreciated a lot! And that's how you spend hours and hours...  33.gif

    Looking forward to more,

    lucky7

    P.S.: I'll post a tutorial on the non-grid, hopefully, soon... 44.gif

    94475-004-d8bd7930.jpg

    Hello all, it's been a few days I know and it's because of how much trouble this project is giving me. I thought I could have an update for everyone in a day, for two projects, how wrong I was. 15.gif

    I've been trying to work on the area around White Memorial Medical Center (for those who know it) and it's causing me so much trouble! All the roads in here go at odd angles And unlike before where I had a "straight" road or freeway to mesure off of and link roads to it, this time my two link roads 1st Street and Ceaser Chavez go at odd angles so I can't really link to them right. Also the 10 freeway as you can see in the picture goes to far out but if I bring it in, then it hurts something else I'm working on. You can see I did add the 5 on and off ramps to Ceaser Chavez but unfortunatly it's to far down for the 5 and 10 Junction

    Basicly something is going to have to give in making this area as close as possible. I either have to make the freeway less "correct" or leave out some roads for the sake of keeping the majorty correct. Either way I lose realism. 45.gif

    Well here is the best picture for my MANY attempts at this area. The first one shows most of the layout done but too far away from the freeway and the other

    1.jpg

    Tell me fellows what should I "compromise" on? The freeways, or some of the roads? Because I can't have both.

    Also I decide because of how huge this project is and how much time just doing small sections is taking me, I'm ending New Haven (also lack of interest). So I can focus more on this project.

    I wont promise any dates anymore but I will try to update as often as I am able to! 19.gif

    Yeah LA without its freeways is like New York without its grid network and horrible traffic. Keep the freeways. You should drop the minor streets.
