    Tomorrow is my 76th birthday so I am setting up the autosystem to produce my favourite meal for tomorrow:

     

    Lobster Cocktail

     

    Chateaubriand Bouquetière (à point)

     

    Black Forest Cake with whipped cream flavoured with Grand Marnier

     

    Plate of soft ripened and blue cheeses with a glass of Madeira

     

    Champagne served throughout.

     

    All welcome to participate in this sybaritic excess.

    How to make:

    Strawberry Flavoured Grand Marnier

     

    1 pint fresh strawberries

    2 tbsp (18 ml) granulated sugar

    Grand Marnier q.s.

     

    Into a half-litre (2 cup) graduate clean the strawberries

    cut them in halves then sprinkle over the sugar.

    Add sufficient Grand Marnier to cover.

    Refrigerate, covered.

     

    Over the next ten days you may eat the strawberries

    as a snack or on cereal.

     

    When the strawberries are all gone, but not less than 10 days,

    dissolve (stir) any remaining sugar in the remaining liquid.

     

    You should now have about 1 cup (250 ml) extract of strawberries

    flavouring the Grand Marnier.

     

    Use as seems good to you.

     

    A fine apéritif (frappé) or a nice after dinner liqueur.

    Generally we don't serve whiskey by the bottle.  However, if you will name your poison, we'll do our best.  Frankly, a good meal in friendly surroundings is better than drowning your sorrows in the devil's church.

    And that's about the limit of my German.  I more or less know how to be polite and ask for things.  I've picked up a few nasty phrases from German operas too!

    'Fraid you'll have to describe that one.  Can't find anything on coupe Danmark.  What's a Danish cut?

    Coupe Danmark: Three scoops of vanilla (or chocolate) ice cream, with rich chocolate sauce (on the side, optional), but plenty of it), a semicircular biscuit wedged in the top layer of ice cream, and a berry (preferably a strawberry, but the original recipe calls for a cherry).

     

    It should be served in a tall icecream glass, and should be allowed to melt for 1-2 minutes before serving.

    Sounds great! It's my birthday tomorrow and to celebrate I'm eating Orea Brownies. But I MUST have turkey. Turkey is good. Canadian turkey is very good.

    Someone is trying to drive up the price of wine.

     

    Meanwhile, in the frozen north, sales of wine between provinces is generally a no-no because of silly regulations dating back to the 1930s.  It is only this year that a resident of Alberta could purchase wine in B.C. and take it home for private consumption.

    For those of you who have been unfortunate enough to never have tasted the
    'Great Chieftain O' the Pudden Race' (i.e. haggis) here is an easy to follow
    recipe which results in a dish remarkably similar to the above mentioned
    protected species.
        Ingredients:
          1 Sheep's Pluck (heart, lungs, liver) and bag
          2 teacupsful toasted oatmeal
          1 teaspoonful salt
          8 oz. shredded suet
          2 small onions
        1/2 teaspoonful black pepper

        Scrape and clean bag in cold, then warm, water.  Soak in salt water
    overnight.  Wash pluck, then boil for 2 hours with windpipe draining over
    the side of pot.  Retain 1 pint of stock.  Cut off windpipe, remove surplus
    gristle, chop or mince heart and lungs, and grate best part of liver (about
    half only).  Parboil and chop onions, mix all together with oatmeal, suet,
    salt, pepper and stock to moisten.  Pack the mixture into bag, allowing for
    swelling.  Boil for three hours, pricking regularly all over.  If bag not
    available, steam in greased basin covered by greaseproof paper and cloth for
    four to five hours.

    I'm not particularly hungry, but i am rather thirsty.

    On a separate note, school is tough for me now.

    My AP world history teacher assigns more homework

    in a week than all my other classes do in the whole

    term (no exaggeration)!
