Yes, actually. :3

It was posted up on citiesxl.com on the...14th I believe it was. There was even a few threads started about it and some hefty discussion, some of which degraded into flames. But aside from that speedbump, it's a wonderful vid and I just can't wait for trains. <3

Comments?  Hmmm, I guess I could say, nice music.  Other than that, the video is a lot like the game itself.

ever since I saw this vid a few hours ago I wonder if this is actual ingame graphics or not. Some scenes look a lot like high quality setting pics of the game but then others look very rendered to me...

First this video is definitely pre-rendered with better lighting which is not applied to CXL real-time rendering engine. Most scenery and the landscape (the sides of cutting of the railroad are tremendously more detail than in-game terrain) are not in-game materials except for the urban buildings which are easily recognizable. As Nilo stated earlier the tunnel in-game is not that perfect, the tunnel mouth is still graphically glitchy. And 1 more obvious evidence, the density of the trees.

The great thing about MMOs is that if you are unhappy you can simply cancel your subscription and go play something else and come back to CXL at a later date a find a more updated version of the game.  That's kind of the defining characteristic of MMOs isn't it?

Save for 1 thing, your city will be deleted for inactivity, while in WOW Blizzard promises de-subscribers to preserve their characters data (technically) eternally.

Wow, my CXL looks nothing like this:

Is there an issue if they are advertising the game and it looks nothing like the advert?  And also that it's missing things like trains, but the main focus of the advert is riding a train?  I've seen some games take some liberties with advertising, but this is the furthest depature from reality I've ever seen.

Please note that this is a cinematic trailer, not in-game footage or gameplay. When it was released there was a big stint on how "this doesn't look like the game" and other such feelings. Bear in mind that the video on other websites did not come with the blurb from MC stating as follows:

To celebrate the release of the game and share with you the vision we have for Cities XL, we are releasing today a cinematic trailer that will take you on a nice journey in the present and upcoming Cities XL universe.

quote>

Underlined to add emphasis.

Was this video also on the main CXL site? Otherwise, it could've been made by anyone.

In the history of video games that video is the "furthest departure from reality I've ever seen"?  I point out the promo videos for both SC3000 and SC4.

Please talk about the issues, not each other.

Someone has never seen a Blizzard trailer...  Cinematic trailers are almost never rendered in game.  Go look at the SC2 teaser with the marine...  Its like millions of polys and completely unrealistic to have rendered in a game.  It looks absolutely stunning and amazing, but no where in SC2 will you get those graphics or will you ever see a marine being assembled.  MC is showing off slightly better graphics then the game actually is, and is showing off a feature that may be coming soon, not something that we will never have.

Actually, no, I haven't.  But even if it is a cinematic trailer with souped up graphics, is it still not misleading to show features of the game, such as mass transit and trains, that don't actually exist?  If I was in their advertising department I don't think that's a line I would cross, but maybe I'm just a sissy and don't belong in advertising!

No where in SC2 will you have the ability to watch a marine being assembled.

My point is advertisements go as far (and are allowed to) as to show things that will never ever be in the game, and MC is just showing off a feature that we know will be implemented at some point.
