Wow, seeing these images makes me rethink about buying this game, though I hear a new version is coming out sometime in the future. I still have misgivings about the lack of options we enjoy in SC4 now, but maybe XL 2011 will remedy that.

Definately love the multiple angles of the city blocks downtown. Very well done.

Here are some pics of my new city i have done over the past two days hope you like them!

(i go for realism by the way and not for ridiculous population densities).

viewing the city from the west side CBD in the middle (wall street building and if you don't know which one it is it's the big tower with a green roof) and the unskilled workers slum to the north east (where there are 4 towers in a line)                                        cxlscreenshottobrifht10e.jpg

The CBD (i am planning to add some more offices)

cxlscreenshottobrifht12.jpg

please not that this is work incomplete and i will open a new CJ for this city once i have added all the finishing touches.

derwilly - Love those sunrise shots, absolutely!  The second one, especially, looks like the view through an airplane window! 44.gif

Mars250 - Your CBD is coming along very nicely!  If I could make a suggestion, perhaps more green space in lieu of some of those plazas.  Other than that...looks good!

Few more pictures from Buonocitta.  I've considered perhaps starting a CJ of it, but I don't really have much material from it (and I don't play CXL all that often, anyways)...so I'll just keep sporadically posting pictures here.  All of these pictures are click-through to 1440x900 high-res versions.

Buonocitta so far:

Random shot down a street (I just like the way it goes up the mountain 3.gif):

Random street-side plaza:

Elite neighborhood at night:

Hope you enjoy these!

Here's a couple of screens from the Old Falls map (City of New Melbourne).

I'm sitting at about 90,000 people so far, it's mainly a farming community but has a reasonable industry of manufacturing and high tech.

Looking north along the Neoyarra River

cxl_screenshot_new%20melbourne_8.jpg

And looking south, sunrise (I think...)

cxl_screenshot_new%20melbourne_2.jpg

And finally the satellite view:

cxl_screenshot_new%20melbourne_9.jpg

I imagine that the farms will be slowly replaced by low density housing as the city expands.  I'm starting with a couple of medium density buildings in the centre, and may eventually move to high density.  Money is pretty much coming straight from exporting food to OmniCorp, so I'll have to think about another industry to specialise in over time.

Androv, you should start a regular City Journal -- your city looks good, very realistic western states-type American or Australian city....

Nice work, everyone, keep 'em comin'!  If this doesn't make me get off my butt and order that new graphics card, I don't know what will.

Androv, I really like that lake, and the sky is gorgeous in that sunrise pic.

johnnyx, that roundabout with the streets radiating out is something else, extremely cool.  I also like how you have your downtown arranged.

Hi, masochist, Buonocitta is coming along really nicely, well integrated with the foothills.  I like the night view and the streetlevel.  Hi res adds a lot.

Awesome shots from all.  Was anyone playing with modds in the pics on this page, yet?

Yes, I really need a new graphics card.  I'd install it on my wife's new uberlaptop, but I think she'd hurt me then!  3.gif

New Melbourne is now up to 150,000 people, starting to take off 2.gif

cxl_screenshot_new%20melbourne_11.jpg

I've placed the small airport in the industrial area, which is also fairly close to the central office district.  Unfortunately the pollution is spilling over the river and annoying my executives with riverside housing 15.gif

Still don't have any high density buildings, although placing some medium density housing and offices in the central area and medium density heavy industry and manufacturing over the river.  Some medium density high tech businesses supply jobs to my 6 or so elite lots.

cxl_screenshot_new%20melbourne_14.jpg

This is the view along the river (Neoyarra).  The large industrial district and airport are to the left side, and you can see some of the executive housing leading into the CBD on the right.  Some poor unqualified people live right next to the airport, and they're a bit mad with me about that!

By the way, I can't play on this resolution, as it has a frame rate of about 1 fps.  But the computer is able to do the renders for screenshots 4.gif

Last image is looking from the outskirts towards the city centre.

I think I will make a CJ, but here's a few more shots as the population hits 250,000.  My computer is really starting to chug along now though 15.gif

First up, the satellite view - The farms are slowly being wiped out, particularly southside (industrial area) where the air pollution is destroying their profitability.

cxl_screenshot_new%20melbourne_15.jpg

Night view, looking north from the industrial area across the Neoyarra to the CBD.

cxl_screenshot_new%20melbourne_16.jpg

Finally, a view from the southeast - it took about 2 minutes to load all the trees visible here :S  The CBD is really starting to condense together now, I'm pretty happy with progress so far.

cxl_screenshot_new%20melbourne_17.jpg

I'll make a CJ when I finally get the population up to 500,000.

Current issues in the city:

- the loss of farming land has led to decreased production of food, and reduced income from trade with OmniCorp

- everyone is pissed about the pollution levels, not sure how to fix this :S

- Traffic issues have necessitated construction of two expressways to allow freight and passengers to flow freely.

It's also a shame you can't plop down trees to make the riverbank less artificial.

About the ploppable trees, you can download the tree mod at CitiesXS.net! Look for the english section of the forum, and you'll find the modding index there too 2.gif. You can also just look in the modding index of ST

Looks like you have a lot of development pressure / encroachment on your farmland --- it will be interesting to see how you deal with that....

City with about 190 000 pop and growing. I went with a Canadian-style low density grid city with a few smaller satellite office districts.

Androv - I love the look of your town!  It's reminiscent of so many mid-sized cities in America (think the Great Plains).  I also love how it builds delicately from suburb to mid-rise commerce.  Excellent attention to detail; excellent work!

Evil Weasel - The same things I said about Androv's city can also be said about yours.  I think what I really like about yours is that the CBD has that single, dominating tower.  Don't ask why, but that's always been a draw for me.  Also, the grids that don't agree with each other, like so many cities in America (think Chicago).  I do hope you'll share some more of your beautiful city!

As for me...I've just got one new picture of Buonocitta to show.  Click through for its full size (1440x900):

Downtheboulevard800x500.jpg

Buonocitta is not European at all (despite its name being derived from Italian), but this street is definitely inspired by the great European cities (Paris, especially ;-) 2.gif.  Took me a while to maneuver the camera into that position, but there you go!
