Nice pics guys. I've been playing for two days(After I get home from Uni) and I have reached 400.000 inhabitants. My city is going very well, trade helps a lot, I don't like having too much industries so I buy them. I hope to show you pictures og mi city very soon. Take care.

Note: Check my join date, I read this forum since 2007 and this is my first post. Hahaha.

Asheroo, I really, really like the look of your city.  Maybe it's those high-res shots, but I might poke around a bit, see if I can't get some inspiration. 2.gif

What I've got is a fledgling town that is currently at about 36,000 and in a recession (at 11% unemployment...41.gif).  But I like it anyways 9.gif.  It's called Buonocitta...:

Buonocittaontheglobe800x440.jpg

This is where it is on the planet Prospero.  I labeled some of the neighboring major cities that surround it...if you squint and use your imagination, you can see my pinhole-dot-of-a-town somewhere in the middle of all of them. 3.gif

LevelmapofBuonocittaPop-36000.jpg

This is the map I'm working on, and the town as it stands right now (obviously subject to immediate change).  The game doesn't really establish a "North," so I chose this orientation based on Buonocitta's position on the continent (as I found out later by taking this picture using [CTRL][F11], North is actually in the exact opposite direction.  Oh, well...21.gif).

ThetownsofarPop-36000.jpg

A closer aerial view of the town.

Anoldneighborhood.jpg

One of the first neighborhoods I built on this map.  Somehow, it reminds me of home. 4.gif

Executivesuites.jpg

Houses in the hills for the higher-ups.  Very...green.

Thesuburbandowntownfromabove.jpg

This is one of the newest sections of town.  It's an "Edge City," or suburban downtown--a rather heavy plop of commercial office space that has grown because of it's excellent position at the junction of two freeways.  On the left are the offices (including the only towers in the city right now); on the right side is a nice High-Tech industrial campus.  It's a work-in-progress; I plan on adding offices to the outer edges of the roads when demand goes up.

A couple more shots:

Hope you enjoyed it!  I'll try and learn how to take some good shots of the city, then perhaps I'll post back in here.

Keralis has it.  Those roundabouts are simply part of the highway-road interchange.  All you have to do is get the highway unlocked, or play in "Expert Mode."  You can't really connect anything to them, though....

Do you think this, in the long run, is more economically effective? I am dying from the demands of industry and if this is  cost effective in the long run it might be worth it. It certainly would answer the pollution issues. But what will your unqualified workers do for work? Can you just eradicate them?

I got Lo up to over 500,000 inhabitants last night and then the whole thing collapsed. Somehow I p***ed off the Qualified Workers, which is a very bad thing. I could not get them to move in, empty lots everywhere but nothing. I developed a bad rep with them and I don't know why. Once that happened the whole thing went into the toilet. I had a bout 15,000,000 c and within a fewe rounds I went negative. I started dropping by like 50,000 per round. It was insane.

I was really thinking I had it that time, too. Everything was doing so well but then came the fuel crisis, delayed yes, but there it was and all hell broke loose.

Patience. I moved too fast.

Also, do not p*** off the qualified workers. If you do that then you're absolutely screwed.

I had this serveral times as well. In my case, many companies gone bancrupt due to the lack of qualified employees. I dealt with the situation by reducing cost in terms of trading and some citiy service buildings. In my opinion, my huge traffic problem was the root cause. As soon as I had some monex, I build new roads according to the traffic map with a view to increase the whole road system capacity.

On the other hand, you have the opportunity to lend some money with a certain payback time.

is it possible to fill the spaces next to the highways and interchanges? it's kind of weird to see a very tall building next to an empty grass plain with a highway a few hundred meters away

No, each interchange acts like a transit-enabled 'building' sitting on an invisible square lot with some decorative pre-set trees, so you can't build anything within the 'lot' area.

I need to learn how to use the highways more efficiently.   I suppose its better to use these instead of the expressways.
