hi there anyone... i found something over the net. it was called cityscape. is it a game? it look like a game for me, but somehow its not, because i think there is no simulation there. is cityscape just a program in city design? i think many of the city building gamers would like it, because it will give you a total freedon in creating a city (although some is not available like tunnels as i see on their promotional video). can anyone share something about cityscape? i think its cool...

I would enjoy that procedural city builder more if it had a price tag under $500.

For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

Yeah, if only some developer bought it and retooled it to make it a consumer-level software. As if THAT would ever happen.

How could something like that be priced at $19,000?? That's a bit overkill, and besides, who would spend that much on a city builder/simulation game/software anyway? Sure the graphics and animation look brilliant, but I'm sure you can make something like that much cheaper.

Price of a nice used car! thats INSANE!!!

I wonder how powerful of a PC you have to have to play that, looks like you can even fly a plane, probbly even cars during rush hour lol, great detail, everything is smooth.  I would play around $100 for that.  FSX was only $60 when I got it

Meant for city planners and cities to use. It's interesting some of the colors and traffic looks like MC may have used this a base for CXL..... could be a future partnership... we dont know about..... :-)

Anyway -- very interesting indeed!

I was browsing Gooogle around looking for info on urban sim programs when I stumbled across this video:

    6.gif

The program is called Cityscape and it was developed by PixelActive, http://pixelactive3d.com. Cityscape costs $19,000 but thankfully they offer a demo of it. Is this the next gen Sim game? I hope it is, I would definitely buy it.

Download the free demo of Cityscape

    OMG.

That's exactly what I want in a city builder.... now, if they realise that they could make a hell of a lot of money out of making that into a game for SimCity fans... that is truly what SimCity 5 could be... with some modification of the program that's already there, they could easily make a fully-fledged city builder out of it.

Game developers, urban planning firms... hardcore simulation enthusiats?2.gif

I'm having a blast with the demo! Many aspects of this program actually seem inspired by SimCity and it has a very familar feel to it.

This is incredible! This is a great find hanson. As shadow said, the potential is amazing, if this was actually then launched as a game. I dont the average person would spend 20,000 on a computer, nevermind a single game. Hopefully a mass market appeal could drive the price down. Must now go and try the demo.

Oh my gosh. That is the best looking game ever! makes CXL look like a game for the 1 dollar rack!

19,000 dollars?! Wee woo. What a price!

Now, where in the world is my jaw?

Looks awesome2.gif I might try the demo! Too bad it's $19,000!

Why can't city simulation makers figure out that THIS is what we want in a game?

Is it too hard to implement?42.gif

That video was incredible. The flexibility of everything is what is really appealing.

    Thanks, Hanson!

Going from the flexability to a city sim would be a rather huge leap. This thing has Zero gameplay. To make it into a city sim, you need to implement an economy, proper traffic volume calculations, algorythims to pick what to grow where due to socio economic factors, etc. Not to mention more content (going by the trailer, there's no rail, no mass transit at all) Its a huge load of stuff to do.

Still, i wonder if there's some company out there who wan't to buy the engine licence and do just that...

Procedural programming is making a comeback and every other year, the best hardware doubles in power and both hardware and software can do more things for less money. In most of our lifetimes, a procedural city simulator with advanced economy might become available for less than $200 (after inflation adjustments).

nah, it doesn't look that good at all... yeah, the flexibility of the roads and building angles is great, but the textures of the buildings, roads etc. isn't that good... and, as always in promotion promotion videos, I don't believe that what you see it what you get... Just like that picture of the bridge you see when you start simcity4...

I think the idea is that you buy the concept. It isn't actually for the generel consumer...yet. Maybe if some developer buys it and expands it, it could be amazing.
