I just wanted to throw in my two cents that I think Aaron has already proved he can do "bigger" or "taller" projects, just look at one of his eary works The Transportation building from NYC

    Worthington Apartments

Here's the small update of the Worthington Apartments, I have moved the water tower because Francis want me to put it in the center of the building. Francis also wanted me to change the cornice, as you can see the difference in the last update, I just did not change the second cornice from the top of the building yet. :)

Once I am happy with the first floor, I will move back to the top of the building and try to fix somethings, I know I need some more doors for the penthouse. One of the of other little roof access buildings will need a door and I will get back to that too. I think if I have finished that I can move on the the texturing of the new Worthington Apartments. :D

Don't forget to make a roof garden, a big building like this, apparently for rich residents, should have a roof garden(at least pots), chairs and etc..

maybe some large wall publicities on that emtpy back wall.

    Looking good!

Up until the early 1920's, roof and penthouses on NYC apartments were not generally used for residential purposes or for roof gardens, but rather, for laundry and storage. This happened even in luxury residential buildings.

With time, penthouses in older residential buildings were occasionally converted for residential uses, and roof gardens were sometimes built, but this might have happened or might not have happened.

Speaking about 876 Park avenue, it looks like having some plants on it's roof, which could be recreated or not.

A wall ad for this type of building is probably not a good idea.

Side and back walls of commercial and industrial buildings, and of hotels, were often painted for advertising purposes, but this was less common in residential buildings.Additionally, it's extremely unlikely to find ADs on buildings located on mostly-residential neighborhoods, like for example Upper East Side.

Something you might find from time to time is a banner, hanging from the wall, advertising apartments on the building.

This is usually found in newly built or newly renovated buildings, and on rental apartment buildings.

All things considered, i'd say it would be rather unlikely to be found on the type of building which is being BATed now.

I don't think that a real problem that it doesnt fir with the NY reality in 1920, consider it an old building that have been renovated and now it is living in 2012, not 1920 or before :D

I thinkk think that a recreation area on the roof would be a great idea.

But I may agree with you about the wall publicties.

    :)

True we are not in the 1920's anymore, yet things are slightly more complex.

For example, buildings don't always go complete renovations - and in this case some areas of the building might be left as before, while other might be changed - even facade cleaning, or partitioning apartments inside a building, or replacing window sills, might be "renovations".

And, when they go for a complete renovations, some things might be left unchanged, not because the developer doesn't want to change them, but because the way in which the building was built could not allow him to implement those changes at all, or without paying an huge price.

Therefore, some knowledge of the past might be an additional layer of information which could be used in order to make a more sensible and accurate decision - and therefore, produce a more exact representation of a possible reality, be it at 1920, 1967 or 2012, or any time you wish.

And, if we decide to dismiss any additional information and claim that what we see now is just the only relevant information upon which to base our decision, then we should double-check concerning the firmness of our grasp into the current reality...

I would suggest you taking a look at Park Avenue on Bing maps - lots of building have residential penthouses and roof gardens, lots of other ones have nothing of this...in the current year 2012.

I agree about that, I don't like to delete the past or it's traces either, even if the building is too modern, it should have some specifications of the country that it was built in.

But I don't see how changing a part of the roof into a recreation area ruines that past and traces, on the contrary I think that it makes it look, surviving and showing that it is a very old building, like most old buildings have some parasite plants growing on the walls and maybe the roof.

I'm afraid you might miss my point - i was aiming at suggesting to take a wider perspective at the issue of observing and analyzing things, and acknowledge that reality might often have more nuances and undertones than we might think about in first place - and that we should enquire about a wider context, and not at just what we see or expect (or wish to see), in order to make a truly reasonable decision.

Why don't we talk directly about the model and stop the generalisations?

Concerning about the model, you are trying to force an open door - i actually stated how things are in the exisiting building which is the base for this BAT, and took no position as wheter a roof garden should be placed or not.

About textures, I'm sure that the roof's texture is not done wright?

Also maybe some roof junk will be nice, like some wooden boxes or something.

IL.- Thank you, I will ass some bushes on the roof it's likely I will added som but not get carried

away with them. I think it's not a great idea to put a post advertisment on the side of the building, because it's a apartment building.

Hold on now, I have not even did the roof textures in that update, I do have the roof textures on it now, I should post a n update soon. :)

Francis90b- Thank you, your right on a lot of things. I have to tell you, your really great on spiling out the details. I know I will add some bushed to the building and a few trees but nothing to extreme. :D

    Jack_wilds- Thank you!!! :D
