Whoops, looks like there's some touchy deletion-happy fellow when it comes to Cities XL stuff. I better keep an eye on THIS post as well. 3.gif

Gabry, I like you - you tell it how it is...... As big of a "potential" Cities XL fan I am, I'm becoming really concerned about this "cover up" that their seems to be. I'm really concerned 15.gif

no kidding. half the topics i read here yesterday disappeared. someone got mailed an empty envelope from MC for their pre-order. that is unacceptable and should be kept up as a warning to the public about this botched game launch.

I know. I have heard of numerous other issues with shipping by itself. I hope the game doesn't get much more complaints for its sake.

I wouldn't rely on those reviews. Infact, are they even reviews, or riots?

I wouldn't really count them as official reviews, wait til the real reviews come in from the more bigger (and constructive and behaved and mindful) sites Metacritic counts like Gamespot, IGN etc.

All the topic got merged into bigger topics. I know this because i would be reading something and then i would realize that i had a few of the posts earlier, but i hadn't read any of the posts around them.

on the subject of reviews, it could take Gamespot/IGN/1 up a very long time to get a review up.

I've checked IGN and GameSpot, no reviews to be found yet.

Has anybody else spotted a review? 4.gif

It will take several days for a relevant in-depth review to appear at major gaming sites.

If you've not played it already then don't get your hopes up. It was personally a big dissapointment to me & I was part of the beta from the start! 15.gif

Here's the first gaming-site (MMO-oriented site) review:

http://pc-mmo.nowgamer.com/reviews/pc-mmo/8734/cities-xl

With a final score of 7.5 out of 10.

PS: This thread should be merged with: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=370&threadid=110259&startpage=2

since it's 100% redundant.

Thread will be merged, please check the forums before starting a thread.

That's funny: an MMO site couldn't rate the multiplayer aspect of this game... 9.gif

Here a review from the french website Jeuxvidéos.com... are they objective? Well, I'll let you judge if you can read french!

http://www.jeuxvideo.com/articles/0001/00011618-cities-xl-test.htm

For those who can't understand, I'll translate the score:

Graphics : 16/20

Gameplay : 15/20

Longevity : 16/20

Sounds : 11/20

Scenario : N/A

Overall : 16/20

Gamer's average score (by october 9, 2009) : 13/20

Anyone has other reviews?

13/20 = 65% or 6.5/10 which is not a good score.

The absence of ambient sound (street noise, car noise, etc..) is just unforgiveable. The metascore of this game will be ruined if MC don't act quick to patch the sounds in the game...

And to think this was reported many times since the beginning of the beta, more than 3 months ago....

Controversy

Monte Cristo has come under fire for specific actions, such as deleting the community forums hosted at www.citiesxl.com in advance of the game's release date. This controversy stems from the fact that when the forums were deleted, so were two years of discussions in regards to the game, good and bad[21]. The company has stated that the community is not to worry, as they have "saved all of the good posts", and would continue to maintain a presence on sites such as Simtropolis[22][23]. Users have also reported poor customer service; one user reportedly received an empty envelope instead of the product, and communications with the company were not promptly answered[24]. Monte Cristo, located in France, does not maintain a toll-free number for international customers such as in the US, and they must pay long-distance fees if they want to call customer support.quote>

I would hold on a bit before believing any review now since the game has just came out and for the amount of stuff there is it should be tested atleast for 5-7 -days before a good trustworthy review.

Unless of course if the reviewer started playing a week ago but thats impossible since the servers just started now.

My review, Due to being asked bout it.

I was in the beta from day one (June), And now that I finally got to play the full game today, I can honestly say alot has changed! I LOVE it now, Crashes are much less and gameplay in general. Only one so far today!

If you're just getting the game, It feels pretty fresh. But after playing in the beta since June, I'm ready for a Gem. So overall it's kept my interest really well for the last 5 months. Honestly the PO kinda keeps it exciting. Being able to go to other peoples cities and see what they've done. Also talking to other people gives me a pass time while building up money or just enjoying my city. Though I know it's not for some people.

In the beta the site (citiesxl.com) worked great, Showing my city's stats. That was another huge reason I liked the game. But currently for some reason my account shows I have no cities and I wrote support about it.

One of the best features the game has over the beta that I personally loved was that of the Expert mode. For those of you who don't know what it is or does, When checked on it allows you to remove your population caps. Meaning I can build T3 housing / factories from the start. I wouldn't advise this for people that hasn't played before or not use to how the econ works, As you'll lose your city quick. But for people that know how to work things, This is a huge plus being able to build your city from start rather then changing it down the line to fit your new econ / population. (Roads have always and I think will always be a problem trying to upgrade.)

The landmarks (blueprints) was another selling point for me, I had seen all the landmarks and this is where the game really shines! These mega buildings will really set a city apart from others. They aren't just a plop and build in 30 seconds, These take days to fully build and that's if you have everything they need to construct it! I feel they've spent more time on these then any other buildings in the game.

At the moment I'm not shure how you go about getting a blueprint for these things? As in the beta it was much different. But I promise you'll be VERY pleased with all of them.

The biggest downfall for me personally is terraforming or lack there of.... Not only is it over priced but the effects is rather disappointing. I expect it to level the ground at the same height, Yet even after clicking the same spot many times it does nothing. This was a issue in the beta and still is in the main game. (-10 points there!)

It seems CXL, Will be supporting the game. It's only been out 2 days and already 3 patches along with a news post on the site stating more stuff will be coming within the next few weeks. If they keep the new content coming..... I'll be one happy camper! The game overall is amazing and alot of fun. It may not be your SC5 but there is many aspects of it that is rather impressive.

My rating chart;

Graphics: 9/10 (Really great! Though at night they need to make the lights brighter in the cities.)

Gameplay: 7/10 (The trade system needs alot of work. But if you only do SP then it's not a problem. Once you pick up on how to read your city status it's rather simple!)

Longevity: 8/10 (If you have the PO, I think you can find it'll be more fun to keep playing. Least for me.)

Sound: 5/10 (I love the songs.... However there is not many... And they get old after months of playing. There is also no real city sounds, Like Cars driving honking, People talking etc, They should at least have this at street level view. BIG DOWNFALL!)

Scenario: 7/10 (There is a good amount of maps. Alot are pretty fun and nice looking, But in the PO you got to FIGHT for a good spot. 15.gif )

Overall: 8/10 (Really very happy with the game, Though I'll admit there is a ton of issues left that has to be worked out. It feels as if the beta is still going just with a few patches. In time this will get much better, And I feel once we start getting new content both mass transit and gems it will be a really fun game down the line.)

My final word is, The game is still very much playable and fun even with the issues that are there. Give the game a weeks to work things out and lets see where it goes! I would buy this game! 4.gif

Hello all -

I am the one who wrote the article on Spill it Out! (http://www.spillitout.com/wag-the-finger/cities-xl-needs-an-xl-dose-of-logic/). Just to clarify, it wasn't my intention to write a full-on review. I was merely airing my criticisms for the game and Monte Cristo. I was playing the beta (I think that question was raised in this thread). I don't intend on buying the full game or writing a formal review.

But there is also positive reviews from players, even if the score is kinda low. The more positive reviews are on graphics and exchanges between cities.

I know for a fact that on IGN, there is a critic score, and a user score, we should take both of these into account. The critics don't know everything.
