not that I know of yet, but considering this project isnt even 24 hours old, I'd say it would be premature to assume there will be none 1.gif

Is it possible to add another type of utility? If we could, we should make it so you have to provide air to buildings, instead of having a massive dome over the city for air.

I haven't read much of what has been posted on page 1 as there is so much to read but I've got the idea of what the aim is so I'll try and contribute towards this project. I can use the BAT and LE so I'll be able to slowly turnout buildings and props is needed.

I can make an attempt at various modes of hovering transportation and transport (cars, trucks (most likely not semis) trains, etc).

I'm not sure how I could help, I don't know BAT or how to mod, I guess I could come up with ideas until I can lear BAT.

Yeah, that would be nice for SC4's version of Sim Mars, all we need is some BATTER'S to make the buildings, some mods and it's a go.

    thnx for the support trolca
use notepad, plain text for ideas

draft up some ideas guys, I'm trying to find someone to change the land textures to mars terrain, and the water texture over to ice, if anyone can do either of those, whip out some of it and post it here, I'll get a terrain generated of an area on mars and get that terrain mapped onto it, then we'll see what it looks like. or someone else can do it, I dont mind, I wanna know what our new project is going to look like!

why don't you ask whiteshark365 about it? He got some sort of desert terrain for his crystal junction region.

    Using my skills of MS Paint I have a rough sketch of what could be done;

    /idealbb/files/someideas1.JPG

    • Roads are defined pathways for the hover things to fly on.
    • Biospheregreenhousethingy can look like the one found at the Eden project, UK.

    <ahttp://www.cornishlight.co.uk/00-3images/eden-project.jpg border=0>

    • All power will come from solar cells. (Gonna need loads)

But what shall the buildings look like? Will it be a real city inside a temperature regulated greenhouse using the current SC4 buildings?

I keep hearing that BAT buildings should take no longer than 6 hours....I even heard someone say that it should only take an hour.  You guys need to be a little more realistic when it comes to how long it takes to make a true quality building.  It can take weeks for a Maxis quality building.

I think if this project is going to go forward it needs to be split into more definded teams.  The Bat team specifically needs to be split into at least 2 teams....maybe 3.  There should be one team of just modellers and there should be one team that just applies the textures to the models.  With the teams split into 2 it would be easier to maintain a consistant look with the buildings.  Also looking at the BEX there are great modellers, then there are great texturers, but there are very few that can do both at a quality level comparable to Maxis.
Then if needed there would be a rendering team (people with spare computer resources that can export).

I still have about a month of work to do on the WTC complex but after that I have no projects in mind so I might decide to venture into the Mars scene.  But until then I can only give advice and suggestions.

the bioshpheres will be the buildings, if there are any huge domes, they will also be buildings, maybe with rendered buildings inside of those, but they will be no more than buildings themselves, there will be no all encompasing domes with 'normal' buildings inside. I think that in itself will probably make things easier, as the smaller domes, single family, single tile domes will be the easiest to do.

How about large strutures that would be converting the atmosphere into something breathable?

Not really.  We all work at different paces.

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

rubik. to start with, we will need small things, not skyscrapers, that's why I feel this can be done a bit quicker than normal. when you work on a vast detailed project, some aspects do take time, that's fine, but how much time does a boulder take to make? or a dirt path? we will work on the most time consuming projects as the project progresses, rather than pile them up at the end, but rubik, there are also very few people capable of spending weeks on a single building, but there are a lot that can spend a few days on a single small one. everything will be put through review, if details need added, that will happen.

from the standpoint of survival, it would be more logical to make plants that condense breathable gasses that is sold, rather than putting it into the planets atmosphere. I am trying to stay away from the teraforming concept, because then 'normal' buildings could be used, and that takes away from using mars! 1.gif

we will need teams, or groups for certain things, but this is a community thing, I dont expect us all to stick to the same concepts, we can use simple peer review with a bit of dictatorship thrown in, hehe. if you want to make a building, imagine mars today, and think of what buildings would be needed just to live on the surface, what kind of habitates and factories, and places to play.

how about you have to zone livable areas, that need adequate atmospheric purifying machines or something, then more expensive buildings, with individual domes can grow outside, like r$$$.

heh, we could do that, but then we're back with earth, and it's barely different from sc4, isnt it? keep the ideas coming, I have heard a few originals I like so far, I'll work on a description of the boundaries, then you guys can create anything your heart desires inside of those boundaries.

First rubik i meant 6 hours on average per object not building. Also thats with out rendering.

Also Everyone we need to slow down here. The first thing we need to do is create a base for this game.

I keep hereing total conversion and its making me laught though. We almost certainly will not and cannot totally convert the game or anywhere near it. We will just be giving the game a facelift.

Also gourou i have an ice texture already in my water pack as i stated in a previous post and i coudl make another. Also Teirusu will be needed there is almost no question on that. He knows more about modifying the games terrain trees water and other envirormental aspects than anyone else here by 2 fold.

Also i dont think we can make this good by making acros. It woudl be incredibly dumb to just plop cities with one click and then connect them.

So in my opinion we should make cities as earthly as possible while still givng a mars feel. That means individual buildings transportation and things like neightborhoods. Also i mean no offense at all but gourou the acros you are creating lend themselves to much to the ones in sc2k wich were in my opinion absurdly stupid. But thats just me. We need to things realisticly for this to work in my opinion. For me to be involved in this project im definately going to want to make everything feel as real as we can. For instance we can not just put some strange looking buildings on the surface of mars and say whoohoo look its a manmade mars in the next 50 years.

Also dirk its great to hear that you are that onboard with this. And like i say we all need to slow down and start to think about this more. Lets not loose any momentum but lets do try to slow down some stuff and get more organized. It took me 20 mins to go through all the stuff sens ely last viewing of the thread and i bet when i post this it will be on page three.

Hey guys rember we have no access to the exe that means alot of these ideas are far from doable. Adding extra requirements for zoning. new building sets funk shaped cities and lower and higher water levels are just examples of things that i am 90% sure can not be done with out access to the exe. We need to think in terms of what we have now and how it can be changed and not in terms of what we can add.

I hate it when I miss threads like this! 8.gif

But anyway, I would be happy to help with anything with in my knowledge. I know most of the modding that goes on, so I could do repetitive stuff like typing certain lines. I'm also generating my own idea list right now. I'll attatch it to a future post. You should generate a list of all those who are willing to help, then indicate which of those are actually assigned to working on something. It would make the project a little more organized.

I was also thinking that we may be able to use certain network types (such as power or water) as other things. I'll get more detailed in my idea list, but many buildings may generate their own power with solar panels.
