What about teleportation? I know theres a thread about that going on right now. I think that if it is completed it would be a good addition to Sim Mars.

you cant teleport matter, the best you can do is hope to teleport information. I'm not against someone designing a telecommunications, where tele is teleport, for C$$$. if teleportation can be made (tho it would defy a lot of laws) then I wouldnt mind a few of those as I$$$, but it wont change the transportation system, because the system is still a sc4 system, it still wants roads for cars to drive on, and sidewalks for people to walk on, just the people will be in space suits, or at least mars suits, and the cars will look a lil funny.

    hehe those pics remind me of Homeworld... had some nice spacecraft in it too... though I doubt a Destroyer or an Assualt frigate is very useful for this project <ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/12.gif>
     
    this makes me wondering, should there be regular-like aircraft (like in guineas second pic) or should they all be space-shuttle-ish?

    Sure you can teleport matter. Captain Kirk and Captain Piccard have been doing it for years.

    I am well aware that teleportation is impossible, but I did not know that we were going for full realism on this game here. I thought it was kindof scifiish, not completley real. But if that's how you feel about the teleportation, fine.1.gif

    Somebody has some awesome pictures of Nasa's X-planes! I'll keep looking at them...
     
    I was just thinking could we put engines on them like the JSF or F-22 Raptor? I'm not sure what they are called, but they can move the thrust in almost any direction.

    those look exelent  , ive got about 8 serches on the go for hover craft cars and buses itsa bit herd but im getting good results

    I've got a few ideas for what to do with all the transportation.

    -Subways are the underground high speed transport system for most citizens. These could be special cars which speed through ultra fast tubes

    -Roads are the main surface hover-way where those owning hovercrafts may drive (maybe something like the magnet idea earlier...)

    -Streets are made of martian dirt for the back roads

    -Avenues are special tube enclosed roads which begin the process of speeding into a highway

    -Highways are the faster road. These are now depressurized tubes which send the vehicles speeding toward their destination

    -Bus transit will stay the same only special hover buses

    -Rail is the primary industral mover. I'm thinking a specialized freight vehicle that travels on a specialized track

    -Elevated rails are the primary surface transportation. They could be very fast moving cars in a tube (elevated of course).

    -Monorails are just that, monorails at least improved and high speed like mag-levs

    -Airports will be Spaceports where all shuttles depart and land from earth and other martian cities

    -Any water transportation seems useless. Maybe canals in the future?

    Guinea: Thats what I thought, but it might not be possible because and would almost definitely require access to modifying the .exe files and other data stuff. I am no good at thingfs like that.

    the way I see it, water is the most important, because with water, and electric, you can get air. air doesnt need to be piped in if it can be cracked out, when you crack it, you get oxygen and hydrogen, hydrogen can be used for energy, oxygen and nitrogen and we're all good, so water is the most critical, because every building can have solar panels. mars is too cold for canals, they will freeze solid.

    hmmm i always thought in the game that you should be able to plan the route of the bus line w/e hmm
    and idea for transportaition lets seee. i always thought sth like a trolly or a box car deal where you are  on the track ithink some one has it posted about idk thoug\h

    how about this: we use the current water pipe system to transport water and oxigen!
     
    a water pump would become an oxigen pump for example, and a water purification plant could be modified to clear air and water.
    Or, if you want to stick with the idea of there being no water on Mars, you could for example assume that there is ice beneath the surface, a water pump would then become an Ice Harvesting Facility.
    I also think that with a bit of tinkering I can add I-HT jobs to these facilities
     
    edit: I just realised this isn't really a transportation idea... well transporting water is a form of transport right? 2.gif

    it's utilities, but as I said, each building can crack their own air, provided they have water and electric, they will have air. this will be worked on more later, so dont trample it to death quite yet, we'll get back to it.

    This is my last post today before I go to bed. Look at the attached doc for my simple diagram of a water/power station, it would be wonderful if anyone could improve on this. Comments?

    Has anyone on this project seen the movie Minority Report ( great movie). I think that some of the transportation ideas from that futuristic movie has great potential for a SimMars project. I see if I can find some pics.

    I have seen that movie, I would consider the roads, but that only works in a place where this is a LOT of money and infrastructure to build it, which mars wouldnt have. I do like the police hopper tho, that thing was cool, but it might be impracticle on mars, I'm not sure.
