I still have floppy discs and use them... In fact my computer was one of the last ones to be made with a floppy disc drives.

Today, my antivirus ran, and I found out I only had one virus, that was a HUGE shock to me, as this computer acts likes it has 400.

1442. Well, just one virus can wreak havoc on an entire system. One particularly nasty Trojan got into our old desktop and chewed it to pieces. Killed the basic components and made it impossible to turn on. A new hard drive and $400 later, it still barely works.

Rule of thumb: optical storage = "disc"; magnetic storage = "disk". CDs and DVDs are "discs". A floppy, on the other hand, is a "disk". 49.gif

Fourteen forty-seven.

Memories. Ah... I remember owning a computer with Windows 3.1 and it had Word Rescue on it. Anyone remember that game? It was made by Apogee.

1447 Floppy disKs! I use them everyday since my synthesizers (Yamaha DX7II -> 1987 and Ensoniq SQ80 -> 1989) use them as external storage (together with old cartridges!).

Today it's very hard to find 3.5' MF2DD floppy disks, so I don't know what I'll do when floppies will disappear (a near future...) ...

1448. Looking out of the window, it appears we have, oh, i don't know, about 8 inches of snow on the ground and a projected 7 inches coming. We have a SNOW DAY!!!

The effects of elevation and urban "heat islands": where I live, off in the suburbs at an elevation of nearly 500 feet, there's snow on the ground. Where I go to class, in the city at an elevation of less than 100 feet, there is not.

I still play that game every now and then. Last week I was playing NES.

While we are being nostalgic... I used to use E-World. Anyone remember that?

Windy as all heck in Pittsburgh today.

1452. Chicago is a frozen hell today. Six inches on the ground, two to three more on the way. Now, by our standards that's nothing, but this morning a good portion of the snow melted and left huge puddles everywhere. And tonight the temperature's supposed to drop to the single digits, with a wind chill of -20. If that freezes over...I shudder at the thought of what will happen to the roads.

Yeah, it's been raining on and off all day.

EDIT: Oh, by the way, SA.... I never played Word Rescue, although I did have the "sequel", Math Rescue (even if only the shareware version) on the old Gateway 2000.

Oh yeah, a more accurate description of the current local weather... which we have a thread for now that I think of it.

    westviewweather.png

There was quite a bit of debris on the roads on my way home from work today. And get this... I heard thunder today. Twice in fact. You don't hear thunder too often in Pennsylvania in December.

1459. Completely unrelated to the weather, but do you guys like the idea of a very story-based CJ? Just expanding on the old Acadia idea.

1467. Do you mind very much if I just go and sit quietly in this corner and read a book? Although if someone *looks at Chptrk* asks me to dance, I just might be persuaded to join in.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

1468. Yeah, I'll get me a good book to, though I won't join in for a dance.
