I have been lurking around here and these BATs are some of the best around. I have many of the NYBT lots, and they look great in my cities.

Back on topic, Brandon, although many are unhappy you are taking a break, I believe it might be the right choice. I have been in a situation like yours before, but fortunately, it ended semi-soon after it started. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you will return better than ever.

I have the same problem to with my buildings I have to play with the textures or merge the building to another file and or retexture the whole building.

Great work on the modeling

If you already haven't rendered it I would make the glass textures reflective just as an added level of realism. This picture is a good one to snag some textures from.

Also, looking at the size I don't think it's going to fit in my map. You might have to send me the file so I can scale it down for a mini Mutual of America Building so it can fit in the spot I have for it.

I'd love to put reflections in it, but whats the best way to do that without 3ds max?

Here's an aerial pic from bing maps.  It's on a cloudy day so the reflections aren't really there but you can tell that they would be reflections of park avenue and not the sky.

Sorry I haven't been here in a long time, haven't responded to Krptowhite's email, or done much BATing in the last week. I was storing a file on my computer that made it run too slowly for much of anything. (Yes, I'm worse than Brandon. I take breaks without telling you! ) But since I'm done, I can talk!

I took Kryptowhite's advice on aging/wearing down my buildings. At the moment, they don't look like a place I would like to live in, but they're just missing... something. Some final touch that will really make them a repulsive slum. Little help? I can't figure it out.

PBGV103: Not bad at all! I don't see a single detail you may have overlooked.

Gwail: I'm not in the family photo... Ah well. I suppose I would have a better chance if I actually made skyscrapers.

Kryptowhite: Where is he? He's going to be snowed in by tomorrow, as will I, and New York City, and the entire northeastern United States.

Hey all, I would have just emailed most of ya'll, but I'm to lazy so I thought I should drop by and actually say something rather than lurking like I've been. I tried taking a break from Simtropolis, but could not resist to lurk. I even been naughty, and downloaded a few things.

I've had a good, 'bout 8 day, break. I think, since I'm finally out for two weeks from one of my stressors, school, that it might be a good time to come back. I'm not sure though, maybe just a little more time off. I've been fine, things have been looking up so far, and I was happy to see what's been going on here. I really wana get back at BATing soon, since NYBT member Darknono35 has been beatin' me at my Financial District Recreation Job haha. But that doesn't matter, Darknono35 has been doing a great job, like you all here. Great job guys! I'm looking forward to most of this stuff! I gotta think now if I should go ahead and come back since things have been fine, not sure yet though.

Ah, I love Myspace's IQ Test advertisements.

Any way, if ya'll think I should go ahead and come back now, let me know. I've been missing BATing....I still got all of 'em unfinished.

PBGV, you can't really make a reflective texture in Gmax in 3dsMax you can. I usually just grab a texture off of a picture and make that my window texture.

What you could do is create a custom texture in Gimp with a perspective of the street and one of reflective, shimery glass that way it would look more realistic. If I have time I'll make one for you, but I don't want to hold up the release of it.

This thread has developed in such a good way, and furthermore I hope you'll get the right award for this, because it would be well deserved. BTW, when Do the trixies FINALLY come out, does anybody have a clue?

Done with 320 except for possible retexturing of the windows.  I especially want to change the ground floor window textures because they look horrible to me.  I usually can find pictures of the base of buildings and cut them up into small pieces for textures, but there weren't any good angles of the base this time.  I'm still not sure how I feel about making a reflective texture and cutting it into a hundred tiny pieces...  lol

PBGV103: I think it looks great as it is, but the glass texture is flat.

Grab a picture of skyline, convert it to the color of the glass and smudge it a little. Try other effects and see how it works.

Well, I guess now my shorter than expected break is officially over, so I guess it's time to get back to BATing-

The tower on this thing is almost done, I just gotta do the other side's lower windows, then I need to add the base and the basic shape for the parking gargage which has the elevated plaza on top. Then, I should add the asic shape of the sloped building next to it that's connected to it. Then the roof junk should be done, then I should be just about finished with this in the Sketchup phase to move on and add certain details and night lighting in gmax then render it.

Today, I started again on the HSBC Bank Building, I'm gonna try to do it a little better than the original that I quit on. I also discoreved that the Downtown Athletic Club is actually W2W with this modern building in front(that blank wall I was stumped on) but the rest isn't W2W, only part of the front.

Good to be back.

@PBG- It's looking great! But take the others' advice about the glass texture, I garuntee it will look better! I'm probably going to edit the glass texture on this one(it's actually the same texture that I used on 130 Liberty StreetV2, just edited in size and such).

I feel the same way. Large buildings give me vertigo. Being at the top of them doesn't worry me, only looking up from the bottom. Go small buildings!

Heres the Transportation Building I had to redo all the textures on this building because when I look at the preview some of the textures were grey.

Whoa, amazing progress! I love the look and shape of that building.

Concerning the textures, the overall colour looks ok, but I wonder whether a slight gradient on the wall textures would work. The green roofs could definitely be improved with a gradient. Judging from some photographs I've looked at, you could also make the building slightly darker overall. In turn, I'd use a brighter texture for the horizontal roof sections.
